Overview

The Fulltone OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Drive-overdrive pedal packs classic OD tones into a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. From heavy crunch rich with overtones and feedback to spanky cleans, the OCD delivers the sounds of a great tube amp, as sell as the same sensitivity and response to your playing style.

Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching.

The Fulltone Story
Fulltone was founded in 1991 by Michael Fuller, a session guitarist, composer, performer, electronic tinkerer featured in Guitar Player magazine, and first place winner in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for music, tone, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Early on Fuller developed a love for fine vintage pedals, and his frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear drove him to start Fulltone. Rich, Fat-sounding TONE TOOLS with a reliable build quality is the goal. Fulltone effects carry a 5 year warranty and are built for (and by) musicians.

Fulltone use True Bypass switching (with L.E.D. status indicators) in all our pedals, whenever possible. Most other pedals have a buffered output that destroys the performance of most pedals that follow in the signal-chain. Fuller says don't be fooled by the claims of "Pure Bypass," "Hard Bypass"...etc. These are just catch phrases to divert your attention away from the fact that those pedals are not true-bypass. I designed and manufacture the Fulltone 3PDT , the world's only Super-Duty Triple-Pole Double-Throw footswitch

Fullertone manufactures their own custom potentiometers because what has been offered as "Industry Standard" has a 20% failure rate within 2 years is not acceptable to them.

All Fulltone pedals are handbuilt & tested at their shop in Southern California using full-sized top-notch components. In the Choralflange, a rather complex pedal as analog designs go, there are NO miniature surface mount chips, capacitors, or resistors. They have their wire custom-made, and it's 22 gauge copper stranded with no tin-coating, so it stays flexible over the years without breaking. You might not know or care about components, but you'll certainly hear the FAT, clean, warm results.

Features
  • Tube-like overdrive and touch-sensitive response

I am a tone freak. I am not a Fulltone fanboy. I tried the Fulltone FD2 and GT500 and sent them back. The OCD is another story altogether, Simply put, I LOVE this pedal. It sounds fantastic and distinct in both modes. I find many pedals have to be set "just so" to get a nice tone. Not this puppy, it is one big sweet spot. I think if I had to choose to kepp one of my 20 or so pedals, it would be this one. It also plays well with my other pedals. Highly recommended... Kudos to Fulltone on the OCD.

I'm going to go a little against the grain here, and say that this pedal, while good for a lot of reasons, wasn't the answer to all my overdrive prayers. It might boil down to personal preference and/or the gear I'm using, but I really don't think this pedal lives up to the hype. There are some very, very good things about this pedal. It's a solid build with true bypass, and it's a reasonably good value. It's also a very versatile pedal in the sense that it works just fine as a clean boost and will also go into extremely compressed overdrive verging on distortion. Plus the toggle switch does give you two very distinct voicings, so there really are a lot of tonal possibilities with the OCD. And, just like Fulltone says, it's very 'amp-like' in how it responds to both your picking attack and volume knob setting. What disappointed me about this pedal was that it claimed to 'not color the tone' of my guitar, and that simply hasn't been my experience. I play a Fender American Strat through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe II, and while I can definitely hear the bell-tone chime of the single coils through this thing, it also seems to be boosting the highs and lows to an extreme degree. I don't know if it's necessarily scooping the mids, but the high and low are so extreme, it feels that way. I wouldn't mind the boost in the high range because I could just roll back the tone knob on the pedal or my guitar, but the low end is so loose and out of control it just makes the pedal impractical. Though it's worse on the LP setting, even when switched to HP I cannot hit anything more complicated than a power chord without being totally overtaken by that horribly wobbly undercurrent. Even the drive channel on my Hot Rod Deluxe II, which is notorious for having a loose bottom end, is not even close to as bad as the OCD. The overall sound of this pedal is just too unfocused and harsh. I was crazy about this thing when I first got it, but after a few months on my pedalboard, it's just become extremely impractical. I like overdrive that is very 'focused' and this thing is just open and all over the place. I'd encourage anyone to try it since there seem to be a lot of people who really like this unit, but my advice is to spend some time with other pedals before deciding on this one.

This pedal is AMAZING

By Jonathan Meleika

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Before I bought this pedal, I thought it was just a distortion and there was nothing special about it. Than my buddy bought one... when I tried I was like OK i'm buying this pedal. this pedal is very good because you can get some really nice thick distortions on hp, but when switched to lp, it provides some cleaner overdrives. This pedal is the key element for any older hard rock tones. I plug this into my fender amp, and it sounds like a marshall.

Great OD pedal!

By Johnny Bingo

from Longview, WA

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is great in every way. All the rave reviews are correct. Very touch responsive and transparent. Very quiet. Hard wire bypass. Huge bang for your buck. Made in USA, 5 year Mfg. waranty! I use several drive pedals for different grinds and this one is a welcome addition to my rig. I am mostly playing Strats through Fender tube amps. The OCD gives me everything from subtile, 808 drive to very thick, musical rock crunch and even Marshally grind. A best buy for sure. Far out man!

Absolutely the best pedal I own

By Tommy Boy

from Montclair, NJ

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

And I own about 20, so that qualifies me as a pedal freak. Normally, I have to spend days or weeks fooling around with overdrive and distortion type pedals to get any sounds I like -- but not with the OCD. Plugging this thing in was like finding dozens of great presents under the Christmas tree! Sounds great at all levels. Tone and Drive are completely responsive throughout the range of settings allowing you to play anything from Cream to the White Stripes. And NO NOISE. I can't say enough about this pedal. Buy it!

Fulltone ODC V4

By Brian Mellott

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Over the past 30 years I've been searching for that elusive "perfect Tone". I've owned amps from Dumbles to Mesa Boogies and come really close but always wanting just a little more. This pedal is outstanding - not perfect, but with the perfect amp it really adds another component in harmonics. When combined with a Boogie, it kills some of the low end mush that Boogies naturally have. With a Blackface fender, it changes the character to more of a marshall crunch without adding much coloration. Overall, this is one of the better tone modifiers I've purchased. Not a substitute for a good amp and guitar, but a great enhancer. By far the best stomp box OD pedal I've ever found.

OCD under review

By Mike O'Malley

from Mpls Mn

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've had one of these for about 4 years. I play a custom shop Les Paul, a Prs Mccarty soap bar, several strats a Prs custom 22, through an old JCm800, a Jtm45 also a '68 bassman. Simply put this pedal does not have a bad tone in it. It has a very transparent sound each gtr & amp that I own retains its character. This is my main overdrive tone It makes my jcm800 on clean sound more like a plexi!!! I use a ts808 infront of it for solos & that combination screams. If I could only have one pedal this would be it.

Fantastic OD

By devon

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this to replace my Blackstar HT Dual as my main overdrive pedal. Even though the Blackstar is nice and has a tube, the OCD is in a completely different league from most other pedals. A problem I have with most Overdrive pedals is that they compress your sound and remove tons of bass and high end. They crush your dynamics. The OCD does the exact opposite. It keeps your guitar tone nearly intact, and augments it, rather than compress it. With moderate drive, you can easily alternate between heavy drive and a nearly clean sound with pick attack alone. You can crush the house with big, loud chords, or whisper with single notes. The tone is extremely fat and cuts through the band easily. With this dynamic capability, I can easily float between blending in with the rest of the band and standing out, which most other pedals won't do so easily. It's also versatile, you can set it up with a little bit of drive and a lot of volume, or the opposite, and either sounds great. When you switch it on, you don't get this mosquito attack hum you get with distortion pedals, but you could achieve the same level of drive if you wanted to. All in all, this is a great pedal. The HP/LP switch is extremely handy. The casing is also very strong. I accidentally dropped mine and ended up with a dent on my floor. It is small, light, comes with a battery and accepts center-negative 9V power supplies that most other pedals use. It's pretty clear that Fulltone does not mess around. Check it out!

Versatile Pedal

By Strat Obsessed

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Like many others, I have purchased several different overdrive pedals looking for a certain tone. If I had purchased the OCD first I could have saved some money. When I read the reviews I was skeptical. No more. This is a very versatile pedal that can produce many differnt tones, with single coil or humbucker. Even when I put it in the HP mode with a lot of drive it doesn't get muddy. I'm not saying the OCD will cover every tone, but you really can't go wrong with this pedal. My other pedals haven't seen much playing time since purchasing the OCD.

Best Pedal I Own

By Mikael

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've strayed away from most OD/Distortion units in the past because once my signal comes out the other side it's been stripped of all richness and I end up sounding tinny and flat. This could not be farther from the truth when it comes to the OCD. When all the drive is taken off of this thing it works accurately as a clean boost, a testament to how well tone is preserved. When the drive is cranked it adds a richness to the sound without heavily compressing the signal. This unit can also be placed before a fuzz to add a thicker texture to a heavily distorted sound. All in all this thing is indispensable on my board.
