Overview

The Fulltone OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Drive-overdrive pedal packs classic OD tones into a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. From heavy crunch rich with overtones and feedback to spanky cleans, the OCD delivers the sounds of a great tube amp, as sell as the same sensitivity and response to your playing style.

Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching.

The Fulltone Story
Fulltone was founded in 1991 by Michael Fuller, a session guitarist, composer, performer, electronic tinkerer featured in Guitar Player magazine, and first place winner in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for music, tone, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Early on Fuller developed a love for fine vintage pedals, and his frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear drove him to start Fulltone. Rich, Fat-sounding TONE TOOLS with a reliable build quality is the goal. Fulltone effects carry a 5 year warranty and are built for (and by) musicians.

Fulltone use True Bypass switching (with L.E.D. status indicators) in all our pedals, whenever possible. Most other pedals have a buffered output that destroys the performance of most pedals that follow in the signal-chain. Fuller says don't be fooled by the claims of "Pure Bypass," "Hard Bypass"...etc. These are just catch phrases to divert your attention away from the fact that those pedals are not true-bypass. I designed and manufacture the Fulltone 3PDT , the world's only Super-Duty Triple-Pole Double-Throw footswitch

Fullertone manufactures their own custom potentiometers because what has been offered as "Industry Standard" has a 20% failure rate within 2 years is not acceptable to them.

All Fulltone pedals are handbuilt & tested at their shop in Southern California using full-sized top-notch components. In the Choralflange, a rather complex pedal as analog designs go, there are NO miniature surface mount chips, capacitors, or resistors. They have their wire custom-made, and it's 22 gauge copper stranded with no tin-coating, so it stays flexible over the years without breaking. You might not know or care about components, but you'll certainly hear the FAT, clean, warm results.

I am a tone freak. I am not a Fulltone fanboy. I tried the Fulltone FD2 and GT500 and sent them back. The OCD is another story altogether, Simply put, I LOVE this pedal. It sounds fantastic and distinct in both modes. I find many pedals have to be set "just so" to get a nice tone. Not this puppy, it is one big sweet spot. I think if I had to choose to kepp one of my 20 or so pedals, it would be this one. It also plays well with my other pedals. Highly recommended... Kudos to Fulltone on the OCD.

I'm going to go a little against the grain here, and say that this pedal, while good for a lot of reasons, wasn't the answer to all my overdrive prayers. It might boil down to personal preference and/or the gear I'm using, but I really don't think this pedal lives up to the hype. There are some very, very good things about this pedal. It's a solid build with true bypass, and it's a reasonably good value. It's also a very versatile pedal in the sense that it works just fine as a clean boost and will also go into extremely compressed overdrive verging on distortion. Plus the toggle switch does give you two very distinct voicings, so there really are a lot of tonal possibilities with the OCD. And, just like Fulltone says, it's very 'amp-like' in how it responds to both your picking attack and volume knob setting. What disappointed me about this pedal was that it claimed to 'not color the tone' of my guitar, and that simply hasn't been my experience. I play a Fender American Strat through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe II, and while I can definitely hear the bell-tone chime of the single coils through this thing, it also seems to be boosting the highs and lows to an extreme degree. I don't know if it's necessarily scooping the mids, but the high and low are so extreme, it feels that way. I wouldn't mind the boost in the high range because I could just roll back the tone knob on the pedal or my guitar, but the low end is so loose and out of control it just makes the pedal impractical. Though it's worse on the LP setting, even when switched to HP I cannot hit anything more complicated than a power chord without being totally overtaken by that horribly wobbly undercurrent. Even the drive channel on my Hot Rod Deluxe II, which is notorious for having a loose bottom end, is not even close to as bad as the OCD. The overall sound of this pedal is just too unfocused and harsh. I was crazy about this thing when I first got it, but after a few months on my pedalboard, it's just become extremely impractical. I like overdrive that is very 'focused' and this thing is just open and all over the place. I'd encourage anyone to try it since there seem to be a lot of people who really like this unit, but my advice is to spend some time with other pedals before deciding on this one.

Fulltone fan forever

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play a Strat thru a fender 2x12 combo. I prefer a natural overdriven sound. (volume at 10 on the guitar, and high gain on the amp). But when I need a little more dirt, I stomp this thing and have never been disappointed. I have three distortions on my board, but this is the one I use the most.

It's true - Great Drive Pedal

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

It is as everyone says, a very versatile drive/distortion pedal that is totally transparent. I run it in front of a Fender Bassbreaker 15W combo and it works on all three tone settings (clean, drive and full gain). It creates great sustain and the harmonics are excellent. Very pleased. It pairs great with my Soul Food drive as well. I've also found some great tones with the switch on the OCD set to LP. I compared this to the Mojo Mojo over a week or so - sent the Mojo Mojo back.

Absolutely the best!

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've used MANY stomp boxes, including dozens of distortion pedals. This is hands down the best sounding one ever. And the amount of adjustments and tweaks you have with it easily make it the most versatile. Running through a clean tube amp is incredible. I even use this with my Pod XT live board and have bypassed all the amp and overdrive models. I've put this in front of that pedal and it makes the built in chorus, delay and phase models of the Pod come alive! Worth every penny, and it doesn't break the bank! Highly recommended!

Very impressed guys. Simple rig, consisting of a Tweed Blues Junior w/ Jensen speaker, Boss DD-3 Delay along with the OCD. Playing both an American Deluxe Tele and Strat. I can tone in a nice blues style breakup and also achieve a near EVH style distortion.

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I didn't like it either. The overdrive sounded artificial too me. Either too bright or too muffled, depending on how I set the knobs. Fulltone is great, but I think the Fulldrive is still the pedal to get. And, even after all these years, the Tubescreamer is still number one for a warm, natural, musical, transparent overdrive.

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal lived up to the hype for me. I play a Les Paul and a Tele through a Twin Reverb, and I can't get a bad sound out of this pedal. The HP/LP switches gives you two pedals in one. It's very responsive to your volume knob and picking attack, and doesn't give you that Tube Screamer mids boost. You can turn the drive down and use it as a clean boost. The OCD is also great for gain stacking pedals. The only thing you have to watch out for is the volume. This bad boy has a TON of gain, so I keep the volume lower on this than on other OD's. I highly recommend this pedal.

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have heard mostly good about this pedal, just bought one last week. If you like the sound of your amp running the guitar (without effects) straight to the amp, you will LOVE the transparency and clarity of this pedal. I run mine through a Marshall JVM 100w combo (using overdrive channel "orange" mode), a Marshall DSL 15w head into a 1x12 cab on Ultra gain, and a Peavey Valveking 100w combo. I use my OCD as a "dirty" boost into overdrive channels with the drive all the way down, volume at about 12 o'clock and tone about 10 o'clock, with switch on LP, this gives me the transparency I need to boost my amp sustain, I do all the eq ing at the amp for a very natural sounding high gain. Some of the pedals I have tried are Boss OS 2, Ibanez TS9, and a TS808 handwired the TS808HW being the finest pedal I ever had, but when I compared it side by side with the OCD, the OCD has better clarity and tranparency and gives me the best tone quality I have ever had. I put the fancy and very expensive 808 back in the collector edition box and stored it. My sound is clearer and more natural than ever. I am running the OCD on 18v adapter, and when I run throught he rest of my pedals, I use a clean boost at the end of the chain to pick the volume back up and to get it through the long cable, but not to color the sound of the OCD. If you have good equipment, this pedal will help you get the extra gain you need, and sound great. On a lesser quality amp, it may not help it too much. I cannot complain about the price, for handmade in America, this was a deal!

Comments about Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've used several clean boosts and overdrives. The Way Huge Saucy Box, EHX Soul Food, Boss OD3, Boss SD1, MXR Micro Amp & Micro Amp +, Digitech Bad Monkey, Ibanez TS9, just to name a few and this thing pretty much blows all of them out of the water. Extremely versatile, and the thing is very transparent. Your tone stays pretty much completely in tact depending on how you set it (obviously it will change a little if you max the gain on the pedal) . In my opinion, this is the holy grail of overdrive pedals. Go try one out.

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and after all this time I found the ultimate overdrive pedal. This pedal is so versitile and adds the extra edge to your sound. Unlike other overdrive pedals, The OCD maintains the same sound whether it's at low volumes or fully cranked up, although, cranked up is probably the only way to go.... You can't go wrong with this pedal and don't let others talk you into a less expensive clone. This is the last overdrive you'll ever need.
