Overview

Housed in a beautiful, powdercoated blue 16-gauge steel enclosure, the Fulltone Ful-Drive 2 pedal is capable of everything from clean boost to raw, non-compressed overdrive via its two switchable channels. With Volume, Tone, Overdrive, and Boost knobs along with toggle switches for selecting Vintage/CompCut modes and MOSFET/Standard overdrive styles.

MOSFET and Standard modes each deliver their own clipping style, with the MOSFET adding more bottom end and roundness to the sound. The pedal's Tone knob is an effective presence control that can smooth out or add upper harmonics. Vintage mode provides a traditional midrange bump.

The second, footswitchable Boost channel, with its own separate distortion control, is perfect for medium- to higher-gain overdrive with a more singing, violin-like sustain.

Named the Best Stompbox of 2006 by Guitar Player magazine, it'll do great things for your sound.

This is the best overdrive pedal on the market. No questions about it. I've been looking for the perfect match of amp and OD pedal for years and years - amp ODs, while they sound amazing, just always lacked something to me, while pedals always sounded harsh and brittle or dark and muddy. Until one of my friends played a gig and I saw him use this pedal through his Fender Bassman Reissue. It sounded soo good, I had to try it out myself. I play a lot of different styles - blues, jazz, rock, even a little metal and shred. It leaves a little to be desired for metal playing, but in a pinch, it works. I'm still keeping it the rating at 5 stars, because this pedal was NOT designed for metal playing. However, for everything else, you get gorgeous, transparent tone, clean articulation, and a wide range of customization options to get your own tone. I've played this through VOX's, Fenders, a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec, a Marshall, and a couple Bogners - it sounds absolutely fantastic. I play live most of the time thought a Line 6 POD X3 Live, and it sounds amazing in front of that. Typical settings (based on AM/PM): Vol: 11a, Tone: 11a-1p, depending on the amp and venue, OD: 1p for main playing, about 9a-10a for cleaner, bluesier tones, and keep the boost cranked when I need it. If I need a little more drive than the boost can give off, I use a Keeley-modded DS-1 right after this pedal as more of a slightly dirty boost, and it kicks it up as far as I would ever need. Would I replace this product if stolen? In a heartbeat. I won't play anywhere without my Fulldrive. I can live without the Fulltone Fat Boost and the DS-1 and some other pedals I have, but not this one. This is a TONE MACHINE.

Bought this peddal based on numerous reviews & demos on YouTube. Got it home & plugged it up and the Comp Cut did not work at all. The drive was too much turned completely down with the volume at noon. The boost function only works with the drive channel engaged. It will not function as a stand alone boost. I found this pedal to be overrated at best. Its built like a tank, with quality components, but it did not live up to the hype for me. I was really disappointed in the boost function only working with the drive channel engaged. Even then the boost is not that great. I took it back the next day & ordered a Fat Boost. Hopefully that works better.

Sweet, singing overdrive!

By Russ Rogers

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Fulltone Fulldrive 2 mosfet is absoulutely the best effects pedal a blues player can have. The distortion on the overdrive channel is amazing, and when you play the boost channel, it sings with amazing power and drive! If you are a blues, classic rock player, this is definitely the pedal for you, however if you play metal or harder rock, it probably wont have enough gain for you. I love it though!

Fulldrive 2 Mosfet GEP

By Jimbo

from West Covina , CA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have been searching for a guitar pedal that would enhance the sound of my Epiphone Dot simi-hollow guitar. I've tried other pedals, even though they sounded good with other guitars, they just didn't give the sound that I was looking for with my Epiphone. Until I plugged in the Fulton Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. This pedal gives the sounds that I was looking, that guitar just sings with a clear distortion using either the Com cup or the Vintage swicthes. This pedal didn't change the mellow sound it enhanced it. I use the sonic stomp and planetwave tuner in line with the Full-Drive 2. Its very easy to use. Buy it

Fulltone MOSFET Overdrive Pedal: great product

By Bob The Guitar Player

from Southwick, MA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have tried half a dozen overdrive or distortion pedals over the years, mostly with my American Standard Strat. This one falls among the best because of all the tweaking I can do with regard to the degree of distortion and how "hard" or "soft" I want the distortion to be. the controls actually work. I admit I haven't fully explored all the tonal capabilities (having done only 2 gigs with it so far), but I like it much better than the Boss Blues Driver or the TS-9 or TS-808 pedals. I think I like it better than the Digitech Eric Clapton pedal, mostly because it's simpler to use. The pedal is solidly constructed and you can actually see the indicator lights even on an outdoor stage in bright sunlight. If you play classic rock/blues, you should at least try one of these before sinking almost $200 into any overdrive pedal. If it was stolen I would immediately buy another!

Flawless

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got this as a Christmas present, and I can't remember one single where I've played through an amp at home without this. It's absolutely amazing. I play classic rock and blues with a Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded Mahogany through a Fender Blues Junior Tweed. The tone on this is extremely transparent, only adding a huge, overdriven sound to my clean tone. You can even get awesome hard rock tones if you use this as a booster for your cranked amp. It's got all the drive I'll ever need. I've got a new favorite brand.

magic box?

By mojohand

from lake worth florida

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

Picked up my Full drive 2 yesterday. I plugged it in and could not move away from it. This pedal is incredible. I was able to dial in the tone I have been searching for in about 10 minutes. I have been using a lot of different overdrives but every thing sounded tinny had no soul until now. The FD2 Took me from glassy cleans to thick chunky drives. I play through a Marshall TSL 100 retubed with JJ's.I use a strat as my main guitar. You want Svr tone? You want Robin Trower's thick bluesy overdrive? You can get it all from this pedal. This pedal was well worth the price. It's really two pedals in one. For me this was truly a magic box. I am now a fan of Fulltone products. My next purchase will be a Deja Vibe 2. I almost forgot. The other gear on my pedalboard include;Crybaby wah,Boss GE 7 EQ,Boss Ns 2 Noise supressor and a Korg Pitch Black tuner. I use a Lexicon Mx 200 Dual Reverb Processor into my effects loop for reverb, delay, flange, phase and other time based effects. This was the best addition to my rig. It made the rest the components come alive. My suggestion, pay a little more for quality it will improve your tone and improve your playing because you won't be able to put it down.

Excellent versatility and tone

By Henry

from Orange County, CA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got this as a Christmas present last year. Immediately upon getting, I knew it was great pedal. Recently however, (as I have improved a lot over the last year) this has proven to be way more versatile than I originally thought. The vintage mode is an instant trip to great classic overdrive tones, sounding just as good as any other "Plexi in a box". It sings with great, warm drive that is given new life with the boost function. The FM mode is great if you already have the right base amp tone and you need something really transparent. While standard gives you a great drive on its own, the Mosfet switch is when things really kick in, giving you great, bottom end responsive and complex tones. At last Comp Cut mode is a total trip. It can give you a great clean boost just as good as any other. However, if you bring up the overdrive and volume knobs, it begins to sound just shy of fuzz territory, conjuring up gritty Hendrix fuzz tones. This is truly a remarkable overdrive with an array of simply awesome tones. I highly recommend it to any blues or rock player that wants great tone.

Same brand, better pedal for cheaper

By Jason

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

First let me say great, great pedal.I "demo'ed" this along side the Fulltone OCD overdrive and MY conclusion(ears) lead me to keep the OCD over the Fulldrive. The Fulldrive does just what it says, really nice pedal. The side-by-side was very close. The OCD just had a "thinkness and more warmth" than the Fulldrive. Be sure to check out all the Fulltone line before buying this one. All-n-all U can't go wrong w/ Fulltone,,,,100% true-bypass- warm overdrive.

Best Drive Pedal - Period !

By Blaine

from SF, CA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is the best pedal on the market - PERIOD! There's some other reviews here at 3 and 4 stars that don't understand this pedal and how to use it. This is a super high quality pedal designed by a player. It's sound is subtle and rich and the additional boost takes it to another level. I looked at every pedal out there and thought I wasn't going to find the perfect sound. Then I plugged in the Fulldrive 2 and instantly fell in love. This pedal gives lots of tone options and sensitve drive and distortion settings. If you are looking for the best drive pedal out there - this is it - especially if you are a Fender Strat or Tele player.

Best Distortion Pedal

By Ryan

from Lawrenceville, GA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is it. Don't need any other distortion pedals. Tone is absolutely incredible, and there is just enough gain for power chords. Leads sound incredible, I would not recommend this for metal players though. I also would recommend this with an 18V power supply. The 9V sounds great, but the 18V really just does that job. I used to have a Line 6 amp and I noticed the knobs on the amp are "broken", they basically don't change the sound. This pedall is the exact opposite, every little turn you get a different sound. Nothing else to say, simply amazing pedal. Recommend for all styles except metal.

All you need!

By Enrique Gonzalez

from Guatemala

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

For all non-heavy metal players who love a rich warm overdrive with full response to your picking and playing, this pedal is going to amaze you like no other pedal will do. Choose between Vintage mode if you like a more warm sound with a little less drive, FM mode for a mid boost on your sound or CompCut mode to have a lot of attack on your sound. But the best feature of this baby definitely is the Mosfet Switch. This option can really take your sound to another level with richer harmonics and a lot more warmth in your sound, plus the boost switch can really help you with your solos. Boost button only works when pedal is on. Totaly worth the price, built like a tank and really nice sound. ITS A MUST HAVE!!

The Company Name Says it All

By transient9

from Beaverton, Oregon

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I do a lot of DI recording with a Strat, and this stomper really helps, because it has excellent, meaty and clean analog sounds. I was surprised that just turning on the boost improved my tone, even with the right-side controls turned down. I run this pedal into a high-end stomp-box compressor, then through a tube DI, and get a great direct recording to work with. I turn the tone all the way up, which seems to give me an honest path to all the harmonics that I can milk out of my noiseless pickups - a transparent, full tone (excuse me) with no B.S or shortcomings. It is better and tighter than my otherwise very good Way Huge Pork Loin overdrive. At about the same price, the Fulltone better suits my needs, although I am sure that when I get around to re-amping, I will run both my overdrives in series, or maybe stereo, in order to synthesize an elusive amp/speaker-emulated sound. I am really happy that I got this pedal. Have fewer pedals in your rig, and always buy the best, cuz your tone has to live with (or die from) whatever it is pushed through.

Your sound starts here.

By adam sutkiewicz

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is becoming the top of its class and is also becoming the industry leader in distortion. I know how it is being ultra-picky about a distortion sound, and this pedal is everything you could ask for. Prior to this pedal, I was using multiple distortions, (ibanez turbo tube screamer, boss overdrive os-2) amongst others. The dynamic range for the mosfet is an all in one package. Whether you want something beefy, light, vintage, whatever...this pedal does the trick. Not to mention, the additional overdrive stomp is a key component for hitting that climatic chorus for any song. I do however suggest that you get an 18volt power adapter for it. It brings it more clarity to the pedal. I heard some people who use a 9v through their pedal have problems with sound cutting out, once again an 18v is the trick for this pedal. Out of any pedal I've played, this is my number one recommendation to any guitar player of any caliber.

The Tone That Makes Everyone Else Jealous

By B K

from Connecticut

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have been searching for the perfect tone since I started playing guitar. Granted, it has only been a two year long journey (don't get me wrong though, I played hours upon hours daily up to this day, and I can hold my own in a session with older guitarists). Before this pedal, the only OD I'd used was a Ts9 that recently stopped working. Repair prices didn't seem worth it so I replaced it with this. I was blown away by the pedal's versatility. It is clear from the get go that this pedal was made for the blues. A strat in bridge+middle position plus this pedal = SRV. Throw the pickup selector to the neck and turn up the volume a bit, and you have that nice bluesy Hendrix crunch (NOT the Hendrix fuzz. I'm talking about his Hey Joe, Red House, Little Wing sounds). Turn the pickup selector to the Neck+Middle, and you INSTANTLY have John Mayer's tone. Obviously this is only some of the things can be done on a strat. I plugged in an SG at the store when I bought it, and played around with the knobs, and I found Page's tone. You can also get Cream's fuzzy tone on it, but thats a bit tougher. You'd be better off with something more like a Lovepedal Englishwoman for that. None of the artists I mentioned actually ever used this pedal (probably because it wasn't around during most of their times), which is a testament to how versatile it is. If you want something that can do absolutely everything, this is your pedal. Absolutely no regrets here

I Will Never NOT Use One

By Garrett Thomas

from Rock Hill, SC

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a fantastic pedal, though I have to say the first stage overdrive can be a little weak. The solution to that? Play it with a full mix behind it--problem solved. Beautiful tone, I mainly use the CompCut and Boost for cleaner or "softer" stuff, but the Flat Mids mode and the boost are great for rock. Same with Vintage. I love this, and I will never NOT use one on my rig. As a warning: to put it on a pedalboard, you have to take off the little feet on the bottom so you can use Velcro--just remember, when you take it on and off, you can as a result of taking the feet off accidentally pull the upper housing off. It doesn't come off easily, like when you're playing, but I've noticed it can when I'm trying out different pedal setups. Still, this doesn't change my opinion of the pedal, you just have to use it right. Love it!

Killer Tones and Range

By Al

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been putting this pedal through its paces for two months now, using single and humbucker-equipped guitars through an Egnater Rebel 30 and it just kills. I've been playing for over 25 years and I've tried dozens of overdrive pedals and amps. This pedal has a very natural, organic sound that pushes and pulls with playing dynamics. The boost (which is only active when the OD is engaged, even though the light stays on) adds a bit more gain and volume, but not tons. All knobs and switches create different usable sounds, though anyone looking for metal tones should try another pedal--this one is for overdrive and smooth distortion. It plays very well with my Teese wahs and various modulation pedals.

The Eagle has landed!

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

Absolutely the best overdrive pedal ever, and i have done them all. I was looking for a dumble type lead tone and had the Zendrive, but this offers a little more gain and more flexibility with the Boost feature. Sound wise there is NO difference between the Zen and this pedal. Its very organic and complements a Clean amp very well. Its also built like a tank. I am totally sold on Fulltone, i think Mike really gets it and knows how to build great stomp boxes. you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a great Rock/Blues overdrive tone!
