Overview

Housed in a beautiful, powdercoated blue 16-gauge steel enclosure, the Fulltone Ful-Drive 2 pedal is capable of everything from clean boost to raw, non-compressed overdrive via its two switchable channels. With Volume, Tone, Overdrive, and Boost knobs along with toggle switches for selecting Vintage/CompCut modes and MOSFET/Standard overdrive styles.

MOSFET and Standard modes each deliver their own clipping style, with the MOSFET adding more bottom end and roundness to the sound. The pedal's Tone knob is an effective presence control that can smooth out or add upper harmonics. Vintage mode provides a traditional midrange bump.

The second, footswitchable Boost channel, with its own separate distortion control, is perfect for medium- to higher-gain overdrive with a more singing, violin-like sustain.

Named the Best Stompbox of 2006 by Guitar Player magazine, it'll do great things for your sound.

This is the best overdrive pedal on the market. No questions about it. I've been looking for the perfect match of amp and OD pedal for years and years - amp ODs, while they sound amazing, just always lacked something to me, while pedals always sounded harsh and brittle or dark and muddy. Until one of my friends played a gig and I saw him use this pedal through his Fender Bassman Reissue. It sounded soo good, I had to try it out myself. I play a lot of different styles - blues, jazz, rock, even a little metal and shred. It leaves a little to be desired for metal playing, but in a pinch, it works. I'm still keeping it the rating at 5 stars, because this pedal was NOT designed for metal playing. However, for everything else, you get gorgeous, transparent tone, clean articulation, and a wide range of customization options to get your own tone. I've played this through VOX's, Fenders, a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec, a Marshall, and a couple Bogners - it sounds absolutely fantastic. I play live most of the time thought a Line 6 POD X3 Live, and it sounds amazing in front of that. Typical settings (based on AM/PM): Vol: 11a, Tone: 11a-1p, depending on the amp and venue, OD: 1p for main playing, about 9a-10a for cleaner, bluesier tones, and keep the boost cranked when I need it. If I need a little more drive than the boost can give off, I use a Keeley-modded DS-1 right after this pedal as more of a slightly dirty boost, and it kicks it up as far as I would ever need. Would I replace this product if stolen? In a heartbeat. I won't play anywhere without my Fulldrive. I can live without the Fulltone Fat Boost and the DS-1 and some other pedals I have, but not this one. This is a TONE MACHINE.

Bought this peddal based on numerous reviews & demos on YouTube. Got it home & plugged it up and the Comp Cut did not work at all. The drive was too much turned completely down with the volume at noon. The boost function only works with the drive channel engaged. It will not function as a stand alone boost. I found this pedal to be overrated at best. Its built like a tank, with quality components, but it did not live up to the hype for me. I was really disappointed in the boost function only working with the drive channel engaged. Even then the boost is not that great. I took it back the next day & ordered a Fat Boost. Hopefully that works better.

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a well-rounded overdrive pedal that cranks out classic green-pedal tone without the pronounced mid-range hump.

I leave it on all of the time (it's my only pedal) and use my volume knob to control the amount of overdrive. It cleans up well and sings when pushed. I play an LP through a tweed amp. My bandmate played his PRS/Blackface through it and it took to his gear well, too.

There was a previous review stating that it doesn't do well with humbuckers. The toggle switch options and boost dynamic are not as pronounced as they were with his single coils, but a large palette of tasty tones are there for the taking regardless of the guitar.

The boost switch adds some nice body to solos, I would give the pedal 5 stars if it's tone could be manipulated but I am very content with the first stage's sound.

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

Like my other Fulltone pedals, this one seems to work way better when it is fed from a good AC power supply vs. battery. Start with a real nice clean channel and add this to it. I always loved the clean channel on my Orange Rockerverb50 combo, but found the dirty channel to be somewhat limited. The OCD made me almost forget about the dirty channel on the Orange! Then the soul bender (which REALLY sounds WAY better with the Fulltone FPS-2) blew my mind. Now, this pedal. I had to tweak it and went online to watch a few demos to get some idea of what it's supposed to do, but it is amazing. It adds a bunch of tonal overdrive options and tones that are fabulous. I agree with the other reviewer who said If you are looking for OD this pedal is very versatile. The boost section does just that, boost the sound (kind of like having a 3 channel amp). I found little use to the massive volume the COMPCUT setting adds, but the boost button adds some volume and a lot more saturation. This is not really not so much of a distortion pedal, but a more subtle smooth overdrive that enhances and sustains the clean sound. It also plays well with my OCD! If you can't get enough volume boost, get an EP booster and put that in your effects loop- plays well with the Fulltone pedals also! I wish that Fulltone would make an equivalent of the EP. This is a nice tone shaping overdrive for a decent price.

If you are looking for OD this pedal is very versatile. The boost section does just that, boost the sound (kind of like having a 3 channel amp). I bought a Xotic pedal but it was more like a distortion. This Fulltone is more of an Over Drive which is what I was looking for. If you are heavy metal you probably would like the Xotic but I am more of a R&B & Blues Rock player.

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was only seeking a volume "pedal" for increasing the output of my Telecaster but this pedal came with many other benefits ....... overdrive/distortion ....... "tone" control ........ the sound is clean ....... as time passes, I will probably find uses for all its effects. Reasonably priced ......

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have owned a few distortion/overdrive pedals in my day and this one is by far the best of them all. I bought this pedal for boosting my lead tone on an overdriven tube amp. This pedal not only does that, but has such a great sounding rhythm boost that I leave it on almost all the time. All of the settings sound great and are extremely versatile. It sounds great for Marshally type crunch from a humbucker guitar, and you can send a clean amp into a Stevie Ray Vaughn "Texas" style blues tone easily. I owned a Paul Cochrane Timmy and I like this pedal a lot more. If it were lost or stolen I'd definitely buy it again.

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I run the pedal thru a G&L strat style guitar with Fender CS 69 pickups into a 63' Vibroverb clone. I don't use a lot of pedals, as I love the tone plugged straight into the amp, but I wanted an overdrive pedal for classic rock type tones. The knobs are self explanatory, except for maybe the "tone", which is more of a presence adjustment. The switches to me are a huge selling point that will allow you to tailor the pedal to your rig, and get the tone you're after. Using the left side switch, you have CompCut at the top, FlatMids in the center and Vintage at the bottom. For my setup, the Compcut works as a great clean boost, FM adds in some gain and depth and Vintage adds in a bit more gain, depth and bass. To my ears, Vintage sounds nothing like a Tubescreamer type of pedal like I had read on the internet, as I had one for a brief amount of time and didn't like it at all for my setup. I also read online that some players prefer the older non Mosfet version, but I think this new version is great. The right hand switch allows you to toggle between Mosfet and Standard. I like them both. The Standard is a bit warmer, especially on the Vintage setting, but the Mosfet makes the overdrive a bit more transparent sounding to me, which because I like the sound of my amp anyway, is a great option. The pedal is very quite and with the pedals volume on 9 o'clock and the gain set at 3 o'clock, you can use the guitars volume to clean up the gain. I was drawn to try this pedal because supposedly, Jen Turner used one while she worked with Natalie Merchant and recorded "Carnival" and I just love that tone! Even with single coils, with some snapback echo and the right touch, the tone is there.

          Tone magic

          By Cody

          from DFW, TX

Comments about Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got this pedal to push the green A channel on my '98 Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 head and I have to say this was one of the best investments I've ever made to any rig and I'll explain why. The clean/crunch channel on my head has a nice, big, round tone with lots of bottom end which I love. The lead channel simply does not. It's fairly tinny and harsh, lacking much of the bottom end and fullness channel A has. Unfortunately, channel A just doesn't have quite enough saturation and bite on its own to be my main distortion...I play a mix of rock, hard rock, and post hardcore. Simple solution, add an overdrive. But which one? The other guitarist in my band has a 60 watt TSL and uses a tube screamer so I considered that. It sounds ok but, no matter the setting, it tends to cut out the lower frequencies which would only add to my problem. I've found this to be the case with a lot of the Boss ODs as well. I read so many great reviews everywhere on the Full Drive 2 so I decided to give it a shot. WHEW! It instantly turned my amp into a roaring JCM 800, and what's better than that? If you have an already good or great sounding tube amp tone and want to take it to absolute perfection, this is THE pedal. It adds just the right amount of saturation, doesn't subtract any bass but rather enhances it, and it tightens up the overall loosey-gooseyness of the green channel of my amp. Adding the boost really adds a lot of harmonic richness, thickness, and sustain as well, perfect for those big choruses we write. This is an extremely versatile pedal as the different settings are really meant to accommodate different amps. I have mine set to CompCut, Mosfet, volume at 9 o'clock, tone at 3 o'clock, and overdrive at 5 o'clock with a slight boost when I need it and it just takes my amp to a whole other level. Can't say enough about this product, it's just phenomenal and I'm convinced I couldn't have possibly found a better overdrive pedal for my amp. HIGHLY recommend this to anybody!!

Everyone looks for a certain sound and this was what I was looking for. Tried other pedals but just too much of the same noise.
A great pedal at an even greater price with MF's used gear. This pedal looked brand new, came with the original warranty and I saved lots on it over a brand new one.
