The Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Pedal is equipped with a simple circuit that uses only discrete FET's to achieve its throaty roar. But the Catalyst stompbox brings something more to the table because it to does things that many other fuzz pedals can't.

With its mini-toggle switch set to "Spark," the Catalyst effect pedal offers clean boosts, sweeter overdrives and all sorts of distortion sounds. Want more? Flip the switch to "Flame" and you'll be treated to a host of less civil overdrives, unique distortion voicings, and a plethora of vicious Fuzz sounds, all of which clean up with a twist of your guitar's volume knob, with a linear transition from clean to mean.

To further enhance your tonal control, the Catalyst guitar pedal offers a pair of very effective low-loss tone controls that set it apart from the masses. Standard tone stacks often end up cutting so much gain that the effect designer has to make up for this loss later in the circuit, and many times you loose some of the magic in the process. Not so here because the Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst pedal's low-loss Bass/Mids knob dials out the flubby low-end, with the added bonus of supplying varying amounts of rich midrange when the Bass/Mids knob passes the 3 o'clock mark.

This midrange, on top of an already wildly distorted tone, has the effect of increasing sustain to insane proportions as well as breaking you out of the standard super bright/super bassy Fuzz mold. Need to smooth out the highs? Simply turn down the Treble mini-knob-a low-loss hi-end roll-off-allowing you to shave off as much of the treble as necessary.

Finally, many Fuzz pedals can have wacky input and output impedances, making it difficult to match-up successfully with wah-wah pedals and non-true-bypass buffered pedals. The Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst has none of these issues, sporting a friendly 1-meg input impedance and an astonishingly low 10K output impedance. When's the last time you had a fuzz work with a vibe or wah-wah? Things have changed, indeed.

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

For me this pedal behaves like a dual channel amp having separate gain stages with a unique EQ.This pedal can dramatically alter your tone; its got the dirt of an overdrive, the grit of a fuzz and somehow the push of a clean boost. Its like an analog version of a digital distortion multi-effect pedal. The trick being how EQ/Volume/Gain respond to each other on the Spark/ Flame settings! e.g. SPARK: Clean boost, Country to Bluesy tone, light Crunch to shiny Fuzz. FLAME: bright Thrash, some Vox and Marshall drive tones and then its just Fuzz territory!

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've yet to come across a Fulltone pedal I don't like. The Catalyst is no exception. The knock against his pedal is that the window of clean to distortion to fuzz is too small. I've found that really depends on the pickups of your guitar. This pedal really shines with pickups stronger than single-coils. I use this with my G&L SC-2 that has MFD pickups and I can get clean boost, light overdrive, distortion, and searing fuzz tones. It's more difficult with my G&L Legacy to get dynamic ranges. So, long story short, keep in mind your pickups.

Try before you buy!

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've had this pedal for a while now and I can't make up my mind if I really like it. It's a solid build, made in the USA which is good. Fulltone is a fantastic company. It's basically a fuzz/distortion or clean boost pedal. Two modes Spark/Flame are nice additions. If you're looking for a clean boost, this is an awfully expensive boost pedal. As far as fuzz, it works really well with humbuckers, and sounds great with single coils too. Humbuckers particularly are hard to match with a good fuzz pedal, this one really works! Overall I think this pedal is pretty decent set to a mild OD, without the gain super high. If you can try before you buy, it may not be for everyones taste.

Great Pedal

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

I own this pedal, it's very nice and will give you options. However, it is basically a fuzz pedal OR a clean boost. I think this is the type of pedal you either like it or you don't. Great fuzz tones for single coils AND humbuckers. Most fuzz boxes don't pair well with a Les Paul, etc.. This one does. When used as a clean boost, it provides a fantastic texture in which to boost a tube screamer. Can also be run at 18v. Doing so will increase your headroom, though it is subtle, the pedal really shines when run at 18 volts. Play a few notes at 9v and then at 18v and you'll hear more clarity. Great pedal, great tone, try it out.

Fab Pedal with a Curve

By Blaine

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

I watched the video of the Catlayst CT-1 on the Fulltone site and was blown away at the sound. So, purchased one at GC in SF. I plugged it in and struggled to get the tone out of it I heard. I couldn't squeeze that Jeff Beck tone on the video - so I went back to the site and watched again - and realized that was Jeff Beck - well after my "da" moment. I plugged in again & played with this pedal for some time. After a little experimentation I have grown to love this pedal. You can get some really subtle distoration and overtones from the CT-1. And with a little practice that Beck sound is close at hand as well - though my playing is a far from the masters. I highly recomend this pedal - its extremly quiet and has a ton of tone. Spend some time with the CT-1 - you'll be pleased.

The Beautiful Beast

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been playing guitar for a while and this thing just kills! It's a little heavy on the bass side, but this thing allows you to reduce it and add treble or vice-versa. I didn't find the Spark mode attractive 'cause the gain doesn't come alive until after 1 o' clock. I really found though, that when pushed with an OD pedal before it (I use the OCD) this thing gives a sweet distorted/fuzz sound that I've been craving to hear out of my tube amp! Definitely worth spending money on, and it's been reliable each time I go out to play. The only bad thing is the knob color... Would've liked them all black.

Great Addition to any Pedal Chain

By Gus

from Glendale, Arizona

Comments about Fulltone CT-1 Catalyst Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Catalyst is an impressive little box that can go anywhere from a good overdriven sound to near-fuzz distortion without any of that nastiness that other fuzz pedals have. 18 volts gives you even more variety in sound with this thing! The two-band eq is a pretty cool bonus with this pedal as is the flame/spark switch on it. I've used a tele with it and a les paul and imo it leans more towards single-coils but it does a heck of a job with humbuckers too! A great addition to any pedal chain!
