Paperless music library will reinvent the way you look at music.

The MusicPad Pro's 12.1" TFT LCD backlit, color display is about the size of a sheet of music, but this digital music notebook does a heck of a lot more. All your sheet music, drill charts, lyrics, guitar tablature, bowing and fingering marks, class schedules, set lists, and other study and performance aids can all be kept in one convenient place. The innovative touch screen lets you make marks and notations right on the page of music, which you can store, change, and delete as needed without losing your original score. Plus you can zoom in and out to make fine annotations. You can store an entire season's worth of concerts or an entire semester of classroom materials in one compact unit and add new scores or material at any time. It's easy to download music from freehandmusic.com, scan your music library, or import music from all the popular music and graphics programs directly into the MusicPad Pro. The MusicPad's high-resolution, low glare, easy-to-read display with backlit touch screen eliminates the need for external lighting in low-light or no-light situations. And a quick touch on the screen or tap on the optional footpedal will turn the page for you. Plus, the convenient video out feature makes it easy to project your notes and annotations so you can share materials with students and colleagues. Version 4.0 offers many enhancements over 3.0, including double the memory for 128MB of storage. Freehand has refreshed the interface to make it finger-friendly, so that you can now touch the icons instead of using the stylus. The file management capabilities have also been improved with an enhanced playlist function (you can now store up to 100 songs) and a browse/search capability that lets you type in search terms with the onboard keyboard or a USB 2.0 keyboard. Freehand has also expanded the notation palette with features like text, zoom, and advanced color palette and notations. Plus with the full version of a score purchased from the freehandmusic.com store, you can both transpose and play back a MIDI version of the score that shows the notes as they are being played. When you are playing a piece back the notes that are being played are highlighted so it's easy to follow along.Version 4.0 comes equipped with premium tools, which you can unlock with a product key for $49.95 from freehandsystems.com. These tools include wireless networking, so you can network the MusicPad 4.0 via Ethernet or wireless connections. You also get audio functions including a metronome with both audio and visual options as well as a number of settings so you get just the beat and emphasis you need for whatever piece you're working on; a MusicPad version of a pitch pipe; and audio player to play, stop, pause, shuffle, and repeat MIDI and MP3 files. Premium tools also gives you access to additional pen colors and annotation tools.

  • Great product

As reviewed by Craig on 2/11/2011

I've owned a MusicPadPro for 3 years & have had no technical, battery, electrical, or structural issues. I also purchased the deluxe bag, Manhasset stand, and pedal. These accessories are a must, also. Yes, the company made changes & is now managed by Freehandsystems.com. Not sure of the details. They will take care of any issues. The original technician, Kevin, is still the guy to talk to with any technical questions. The program is dated & different than you would expect, yes, but it's definately a program that you'll quickly learn. The Pad is kinda bulky, considering how thin everything is. I us it mainly for accompanying community theatre musicals, and any gig where there's a program, rather than request-type situations. I've also found that using my HP printer Scanner is much faster than using the scanner program on the MusicPad. Call Kevin to reconfigure the scanner programs......The Pad has never failed me while performing. It can be difficult to place on some grand piano & pipe organ bookboards, but it's possible. It all depends on the bottom lip of the bookboard. I made a pair of steel overhanging padded hooks to hold the Pad for upright pianos. (call your tool shop friends). The Manhasset stand is a must for keyboards & other instruments. Even though the touch pad screen is great for turning pages, the pedal is a must for quick hands-free page turning. And ya' gotta buy the deluxe bag, not a cheaper version. You'll eventually learn to love it.

  • Great in it's time

As reviewed by Bruce C. Walker on 6/7/2011

I have owned these since the early days...they were a great idea for their time. I will certainly never go back to paper. But, the company has not kept the product updated. The unit works well with Windows XP, but does not work with W7. The company has steadfastly refused to accomodate 64-bit op systems. Importing pdfs is a bit technique sensitive to get good results. Anything which can be printed can be displayed on the MPP, but the print driver will not work in W7. Also, the screen is not bright enough for outdoor performance.

  • You're buying an expensive brick!

As reviewed by Mark Olson on 2/1/2012

I have owned a MusicPad Pro for over 5 years. I haven't updated music in it for many months. When I went back to do so and transfer my music from an old computer to a newer one, I learned that it is discontinued. The website has been changed to onlinesheetmusic.com, and there is no support whatsoever for it. The online chat support was unable and unwilling to put me in contact with anyone currently or formerly with experience in the MusicPad. They stonewalled and tried to point me to the old websites, which redirect to the new one. Any support forums that were on the old sites are gone. Through two hours work and much finagling on my own, I was able to finally transfer the sheet music that is rightfully mine to the newer computer, but no thanks to the onlinesheetmusic.com. They still display the little freehand music logo character, but any similarity beyond that is non-existent. Owners of this system are now left out in the cold and must fend for themselves. Very disappointing to think that others like myself have made such an investment in this platform and are now abandoned.
