Dependable, Reliable, Flexible

By Paj

from Philly area

If you need to record 10-16 simultaneous channels (with S/PDIF or ADAT externals), this is the SAIB to do it. I've been using mine for over 5 years now, recording from the stage with/without a Behri ADA8000 (to add 8 recording/mixing channels via ADAT. I've burned over 2000 archive disks on the CD burner. For the past five years it has been run anywhere from 12 to 40 hours per week and not a single thing has gone wrong. It's built like a tank. The only way I ever lost a recording was when stage power went completely out. I still have the original 20GB HD but have inexpensively added other (even an off-the-shelf 120GB); swapping HD drives takes less than 5 minutes. One of my best buys---EVER. If you need rugged portability, flexibility, reliability and dependability, this is the unit. It;s a heckuva machine!

So much potential...

By Mike_in_NJ

from New Jersey

If you read my earlier review, you'll see that I had nothing but nice things to say about the Fostex VF-160EX. Now that I've lived with it for a few more months, things have changed quite drastically. Everything started out great. Then I started getting error messages. The hard drive crashed a few times, losing all data on it. I contacted Fostex about it and they sent me a replacement hard drive. I installed it but still encountered glitches that ruined songs. I can only conclude that the software was buggy. This machine has SO much potential, but mine was plagued by problems. I ended up selling it. Hopefully your results will vary.
