Comments about Fostex T50RP mk3 Studio Headphones (Semi-Open):

I went to an audiophile show where they had headphones from one hundred USD to four thousand USD. These headphones were absolutely better than anything below half a grand.
They need an amplifier - I use an ifi Nano and it works really well.
I am in the process of re-listening to all my music to hear the bits I've missed.
Thank you Fostex!

Needs modification for satisfactory sound

By Music Junkie

from Dallas, TX

About Me Experienced

Pros

  • Clear Sound
  • Durable
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Supremely inefficient
  • Uneven frequency response

Best Uses

  • Amateur Recording

Comments about Fostex T50RP mk3 Studio Headphones (Semi-Open):

Highs are over represented, but not evenly so. Mids are too recessed. Bass is fine, doesn't seem to extend far without a big drop off in volume. Many of these things can be addressed with modification, as the driver is special with the impressive detail that you get with a planar magnetic. Problem is the enclosure is made cheaply, making it a very uneven phone with resonance and uneven response. If there is an awesome sale and you want to put in the effort (and 60-80 dollars in materials) you can get a giant-killer of a set of cans. As is, it sounds like bargain phones with crazy detail.

Comments about Fostex T50RP mk3 Studio Headphones (Semi-Open):

I attended an audiophile show where I could audition headphones that cost $100 - $4000. These headphones were clearly the winner at or below the $500 mark.

I am ecstatic at how great these sound, how affordable they are!

They do need an amplifier. These do not use the same driver technology that has been around since Edison.

I use an ifi Nano amplifier and it drives these well.

You cannot go wrong with these!
