Overview

Diminutive in size, but with a sound that has to be heard to be believed, the Fostex PM0.4 monitor speakers are naturally recommended for desktop use but their superb audio performance in a compact physical size means you can also use them for professional console top studio monitoring, audio installation, and portable audio monitoring. These Fostex speakers feature 36 watts of bi-amped power, UFLC 16mm soft dome HF unit, 100mm LF woofer and overall volume control.

Electronics:

The PM0.4 monitors feature internal bi-amplification employing two state-of-the-art amplifiers which are precisely calibrated to match the performance of the drive units and use high-quality discrete bipolar output devices:HF 18w, LF 18w. High-capacity power supply units are used for excellent transient response. These Fostex speakers offer TRS and Line inputs.

High Frequency tweeters:

The soft dome tweeters employ Fostex's UFLC technology (Poly Urethane Film Laminated Cloth) to achieve light weight and high stability performance.

Low Frequency woofers:

The Fostex PMO.4 speakers use a mixture of cut and milled fibres made from aromatic polyamide impregnated with resins to simultaneously achieve high rigidity and optimum damping. An olefin film is thermally adhered to its surface to control frequency response and ensure reliability. Distortion is minimized by the use of an ultra-pure copper voice coil.

I've been into recording for about six years now. I've heard many of monitors, and for the price, these cannot be beat. The amount of bass that comes out of these things amazes me to this day. Nice to have both 1/4" and RCA inputs. Only flaw is the placement of Volume control (which is on the backside of the unit.) The reviewer that said all quality was lost during mixing must have external processing issues. These monitors produce a very flat sound, so what your mix is what you get. They are not forgiving at all. If your looking for warmth, look somewhere else. For a small home studio, these would make a great choice for someone who doesn't want to drop a fortune for monitors. On another note these things are very visually appealing. Nice gloss black and simplistic design which sells itself. Fostex has a good reputation so I didn't feel like I was taking a chance with these things. So what are you waiting for? Give these monitors a go!

GREAT BUY

By Shannon Owens

from Illinois

The sound that comes out of these little things are incredible. As everyone has said it lacks overall on low end, but that's not to say that these things don't have any....cause they DO...and quite a bit for how small they are. But good news, Fostex makes a sub that goes with these! Bad news is...they don't sell it on this site yet. It's called a PM0-SUBn! Also a REALLY good price for a powered sub! Can't wait until M.F. carries it so I can have the whole system.

Great for the $$

By Zach Terry

from Carrboro NC

I've been using these for several years now. They hold up great and the sound is phenominal.

The only downside is that the low end is not accurate.....the low end is always waaaay louder and hits harder during the car test, and in other systems. I would suppliment a sub with these little guys to get the sound more accurate.

Nice monitors

By Declaps

from Europe

Pleasant surprise these little Fostex, felt good right out of the box, easy install and off you go..
Only lack of minijack connections and digital I/O weights these babies down .*****
All the features you need of a desktop monitor, rca plugs but no minijack, good shielding and a fair fq response. No digital I/O.
Nice finish, looks good and sounds good, pretty tight mid bass and good hi end. Pleasant :-) Mayby one could want a woofer some day?
This product price/quality ratio : 10

Unimpressed

By jedirocker8

from Undisclosed

I was initially pumped to find a pair of studio monitors for this price that got decent reviews and didn't look like a hunk of junk. But once they came, I realized they were tiny speakers and incapable of producing any reasonable amount of bass. They get pretty loud for the size, and the sound is very flat. They only have a 1/4" input and a volume knob, no eq settings. I would not recommend mixing any type of music on these except for maybe straight acoustic.

Yes, you get TWO monitors for this price

By Lucas

from Austin, TX

The description clearly said they came as a pair but I was nervous after the reviews stating they only got one. They just arrived and, rest assured, you will get two speakers. I got them to replace some old M-Audio BX5s and, although these have a four-inch woofer, they are a perfect (and CHEAP) replacement. Obviously these are not high-end monitors but they provide a very flat response and they are perfect for my little demo studio. I'm giving these five stars to compensate for the 1-star reviews from those who only got one monitor for some reason. this is really a 4-star product.

Good for the money

By BlackBelt

from Memphis

I bought these for my budget studio. I make demos, so I just needed flat response reference monitors. These fill that niche perfectly. As expected, they are little light on the bass end. Add an inexpensive subwoofer and you will be rocking with these speakers. They are a great investment if you don't want to sink a fortune into high-end gear but still want good performance out of your monitors. You won't be disappointed.

these own

By Mike

from phx, az

Got these either here or Musician's Friend (same thing) and I was skeptical about monitor vs. monitorS also, but the price should be for a pair (if you shop around). Indeed only one was shipped, but after contacting customer service a second was sent right away. As far as quality, these little guys are amazingly clear and colorless. They are definitely nearfield so must be fairly close, but they have excellent response and decent bass for their size, so "must be heard to believed" is accurate. I prefer them greatly over a friend's KRK Rokit's (both sound and appearance) that he paid almost twice as much for. Highly recommend for a small home studio. I have used them for over two years and they still sound amazing as ever.
