The Recorder...........

My band-mate has this machine. I recorded one song on it, and it worked great. I really enjoyed using it, and it was very easy to use. Why buy it? I shall tell you. It is cheap, easy to use, portable, and ok quality Why not buy it? Well..... It isn't digital, of course. But digital is expensive... Only 4 tracks...but you can improvise and work around it.. You even know that you will be getting TAPES with your songs on it...not CD's... You still dont care, you can sell tapes for now 'till you get the $ for CDs.... But.... (You've been avoiding this) You have EXTREMELY LITTLE options. It seems like you record and....thats it. No more... No tweaking...no cool effects. That's it. You can only change volume and pan. WOW (sarcasm) Then why did I rate it so high? Because for it's size, price, and abilities, it works great and is very easy for beginners to use. So unless you're a hot shot with plenty of $$$, or you want CDs... I say buy it.

Usable but nothing spectacular

When testing this unit I compared it to Tascam 4 track recorders. To be honest the Tascam units were better. The Tascam 4 track that is in the same price range is built better and there is less noise. This unit is very easy to use and it is good for getting down ideas in a hurry but that is about it. The X12 just doesn?t seem to be built as sturdy as its competition and the recording quality is a bit below the standard. I would recommend that you consider a different unit such as a Tascam MFPO1.

Fostex X-12 4-Track Recorder

This is a pretty good cassette recorder. When plugging straight into the recorder, whatever you make sounds good. I had a problem recording vocals, though, but that might be because I had a crappy microphone (it came with a karaoke system). I will probably buy this once I have the money, and I will buy a good microphone to go with it.
