What a Great Machine!

I do some profesional work, and have used high end studio equipment. This little miracle is great. I have been researching for about 6 months, and this was the one I chose! Phatom power, 4 tracks at time recording, huge hard drive, all the great effects, wow! The sound is superb! very very very happy

Diggin evolution dude

I think that this is a decent machine for the cost. The features are decent and its fairly simple to use took me a hour to have everything down.I am not a professional recorder but to me it sounds better then somr recordings that I have paid for. I reccomend it to any one starting off

It's cool. . .

ever since i purchased this little puppy i have been a happy man. i did buy the m-audio buddy recording package (with pre-amp and two condensers) as well and i must say the only thing i wish it has were more tracks. it is not truly and 8 track machine. tracks 5/6 and 7/8 are stereo tracks so basically you are getting a really nice 6 track machine. the effects are so so, but no one buys fostex for the effects. however a small bit of reverb on the tracks is nice. it's easy to use, it sounds great, what more could you ask for at this price?

Great Value; Could Be Better

I have owned this recorder for about a year now and I'm surprised at the value I got for only spending $400! I started in knowing almost nothing about recording and I came out having at least some decent knoledge about the subject. I like the fact that the MR8HD can record four tracks at once. That comes in handy often compared to only being able to do two at a time.

Very worthwhile recorder

I recently purchased a Fostex MR8HD. I play in an acoustic duo, so the 4 tracks at a time is key for me (2 guitars and 2 vocals). It is great to be able to record a practice to listen to and then pick apart to make changes. In this format, it is also great to "jot" down an idea to hand off for collaboration. That being said, the true power of this unit, I have found, is in using it to capture music and then transfer it to another program for "polish". I use a cakewalk program and the 2 together are excellent. You can master and record directly on the MR8HD (with an external cd-recorder). But I have found that that is difficult and yields less favorable results. My opinion is: for the money, it is hard to find something better and unless you need more tracks at at time, this is the way to go.
