Overview

iTrack Dock is a comprehensive, studio-quality iPad recording interface that acts as the hub of your iPad recording studio. Featuring dual legendary Focusrite microphone preamps, along with two line inputs and an instrument DI with plenty of extra headroom, stereo monitor outputs with 105dB dynamic range plus independently-controlled headphone outputs, and a USB port for class compliant MIDI instruments and controllers, iTrack Dock gives you everything you need to record, monitor and control music on your iPad - with precision Focusrite digital conversion at up to 24-bit, 96kHz sampling. And at the same time it charges and powers your iPad.

Who is iTrack Dock for?
iTrack Dock is the perfect recording interface for songwriters, musicians and home recordists who want to take advantage of their studio gear alongside the simplicity of iPad. Designed to provide a comprehensive recording, monitoring and control solution for iPad users, iTrack Dock is easy to use and provides all the control and functionality you'd expect in a traditional recording interface.

That Focusrite Sound
iTrack Dock, like other acclaimed Focusrite interfaces, couples superb analogue audio circuitry with the highest precision digital conversion expertise, to deliver the best of all possible worlds for today's iPad-based hit-makers, in both personal studios and world-class facilities across the globe.

Did you know that... The legendary Focusrite sound embodied in all of Focusrite's products goes all the way back to 1985, when Rupert Neve was commissioned to build "no compromise" modules for the consoles in Air Studios? Since then, countless hit records have been tracked and mixed through Focusrite gear, which to this day follows the same design philosophy: sound is everything.

Simple, Sleek Setup
Getting started is easy. Whichever Lightning iPad you have, just slide the connector on the iTrack Dock up or down to match the position of your iPad's socket and plug in. The iPad sits perfectly in the iTrack Dock, at just the right angle, in line with and alongside the Dock's raked control surface.

Hooking up your gear is easy too. Simply plug in your microphones and guitars via XLR and Jack cables, while line inputs and monitor outputs to your speakers are carried over TRS cables. A standard USB cable connects your MIDI controller to the iTrack Dock, giving you instant "hands on" control of any assignable MIDI parameters.

I primarily use my Presonus 1818vsl for most of my major recordings but I wanted to have a platform that I could take anywhere for taking "notes" and having ideas recorded. I bought this as the docking idea seemed awesome and I already have a Focusrite ISA One which is simply amazing, so thought I would try another Focusrite product. I will try to not make this super lengthy so here's what I have found over the course of a couple weeks:
1. Very clear mic preamps
(a) The preamps are very clear sounding on their own, but I connected the ISA One to it and the sound was noticeably clearer.
2. Frame is plastic doesn't feel like a tough quality, but it has seemed that even though it feels cheap, it has held up well to carrying it places
3. I opted to use Presonus's Capture ($9.99 but can get Capture Duo for free. Does same thing, but only records two tracks) as I already use Studio One 3 Professional, and with that DAW, it works flawlessly. I slid in my iPad Mini 4 which docked perfectly, opened up Capture, selected iTrack Dock which showed up without a problem, hooked up mics (Blue Bluebird and Senheiser E609) and started recording.
(a) I can't speak for the "Tape" program it comes with as it was never my intent to use it.
4. controls are simple to use
5. This can be used with any iPad
6. The lightning connector slides up and down to accommodate whichever iPad you are using.

Lastly, I will leave off with saying this: If you are having problems with a DAW not reading it, try capture. It's not great for editing, but you can get Presonus Studio One Prime for free and go to town. Not to mention it sends the project you have recorded on the iPad directly to Studio One with just two clicks. Overall, the iTrack had done exactly what I expected it to do without any hiccups. So far, it is worth the money.

Had mine for just under a year, work great, then preamp 1 died, focusrite support had me send it from NY to California at my cost, came back repaired, but only worked for 2 days and the same problem. Focusrite wanted me to send it back again, but it cost me $15.00, so i'm looking for something else. If you buy this, get the GC coverage. You will need it. I will never deal with focusrite again.

Perfect for me

By Ted

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Focusrite iTrack Dock:

Had the iTrack for a couple of weeks. Use it with a couple of guitars and an SM57 mic. Out,put to either a stereo power amp and cab or headphones or monitors. Everything is perfect. The pres are warm and clear. The headphone amp drives both a pair of 18 ohm Sennheiser or a 600 ohm AKG set. Fits and charges the iPad Air. I'm a guitar player, haven't tried the midi, but this and the many great iPad apps that come out daily leave my desktop gathering dust. With the charger this makes the iPad the best guitar effects rack available.

Working Great

By Temple

from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about Focusrite iTrack Dock:

A very nice balance of features and quality for the price. Signal is clean with lots of headroom and very low noise throughout. Plenty of power for monitors and MIDI keyboards/controllers. (With older MIDI keyboards, an m-audio UNU will let you connect them since the are no 5 pin DINs on the iTrack)

      Comments about Focusrite iTrack Dock:

I record voice and guitar projects (with an ipad Air 2) that require equipment that has high quality capability and is easy to set up and use. The itrack Dock far exceeds those basic requirements. The Dock is well designed, pre-amps are VERY 'clean', controls are 'solid', and the quality of the recordings is exceptional. One major advantage the Dock has over previous ipad recording configurations that I've used is that the itrack Dock charges my ipad while it is in use. That feature turned out to be more important than I had originally thought! Working on projects for hours (and then needing the ipad for other things away from recording) is no longer an issue where ipad battery life is concerned. Designed well for function and efficiency, the itrack Dock delivers on all of its promises at a reasonable price! I would recommend this to any ipad owner wishing to take his/her home studio recording to 'the next level' (providing that your ipad is compatible). If you have the right room to record in - and a basic understanding of what makes a 'good' recording for your type of music - you can achieve outstanding results! I have found that I prefer a good sounding room with 'natural' acoustics over a sound-proof, (costly) pro recording studio (I've used both). In a relatively quiet space with good room 'ambiance', a decent vocal microphone, and with efficient recording components, I have produced recordings that people attending my programs are eager to purchase. I learned that my 'customers' prefer less-than-perfect recordings because they relate to a more organic 'feel' and sound in their recordings - it creates an intimacy with the listener that 'prefect' recordings sometimes do not achieve. The itrack Dock has become central to my being able to achieve the kinds of 'high standard' recording projects that I demand (of myself) and that my listeners have become accustomed to expecting from me. The itrack Dock is another exceptional product from Focusrite!

          Comments about Focusrite iTrack Dock:

Great idea, terrible cheap construction. Very over-priced for what it is. Lost connection frequently, with loud clicking, even Undisturbed on a tabletop. Wouldn't survive gigs. Had to return it. Guitar Center was very nice about taking the item in return.
