This has got to be my favorite piece of gear in the world. I don't often go write reviews unless I have a problem with something, but I felt I needed to give a standing ovation to the folks over at Focusrite for this one. This thing handles low end like a champ, and is as clear as a bell. If you choose not to use Ableton as your main DAW, you may experience some difficulty getting everything going for the first time, but a couple minutes of tinkering will get you on your feet and it will be 100% worth your time. I've used some of the larger Scarlett interfaces in the past, and there is literally no difference in quality of sound between this and some of the larger, more expensive models. I recommend this interface a thousand times over.

The sound quality is superb although I find it out that it doesn't use external power and is powered entirely by USB power. The pre amp is clean and the direct monitoring has very little latency lag. However if you're going to use this with windows and pro tools buy something else. The pro tools specific driver is absolutely terrible!! Sometimes it recognized the hardware sometimes it doesn't and the pre amp settings have to be set just right inside the software control panel or you'll hear nothing but fuzz and static in your headphones and on your vocal recording. The "version" of pro tools they include with the interface is the free download version that anyone can download to use with any interface and it's so limited it's useless. The red plugins are nice the rest of the software package is useless.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

Now that I have it working, I'm very happy with this interface. That being said, there are some things I want everyone to know so they don't have the same problems as I did.

I was under the impression that all I had to do was install the drivers and get started. It took me 2 days of troubleshooting to figure out that I needed to register my product online on the focusrite site for the driver's to function properly. Make sure you register yours before you start so you don't waste time like i did!

      Great interface for beginning producers.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

I got this for my portable studio setup for the road away from my home studio. Took me a while to find USB 3.0 drivers for this. The focusrite website doesn't exact;y make it easy to find. You have to Google "scarlett solo 2nd gen USB 3.0 driver" and download the Focusrite USB ASIO driver. In any case, once I got it working, it sounded pretty good with Samplitude and Guitar Rig. It's nice that it has 48v phantom power for mics and a dedicated instrument input, plus line outputs for connecting to monitors or whatever. No MIDI in/out, but that's ok. Controls feel pretty solid and the case is pretty attractive. I'd say this is a bargain given the sound quality and price point.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

I was looking for an affordable audio interface that'd work as an external sound card and this does the trick. It may take a little troubleshooting (as it did for me) getting it to work with whatever DAW you're using, but once you download the driver and get the audio preferences just right in your software it's good to go. I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out why it was only recording one side, not stereo, so when I played back it only play on my right headphone. Each input, the mic and guitar line, are a separate track in the stereo mix so you have to specify on the track your recording that you want to record mono on either/or. Once I figured that out, I realized you could also set up 2 tracks in your DAW, one to record the mic and one the guitar line, so you can record 2 separate tracks at the same time, kind of cool. I currently use Sonar X3, Reason and FL Studio. Before I couldn't switch between programs very easily without my sound card pooping out, but the Scarlett allows me to work simultaneously between programs flawlessly.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

Overall this interface out of the box sounds better than some of the ones I've used in the past. I like the look and the sound of the pre amps. Now it's not going to get you professional sound without adding some extra hardware to your set up but for the money it's probably the best interface to get started with. I didn't enjoy using Pro Tools First with it so I upgraded to Pro Tools 12.8 which you can purchase one time or a monthly subscription. I had issues using pro tools first like popping and hissing while recording but on the full version of pro tools I've had absolutely no issues. I'll be upgrading soon so I'll have more pre amps and balanced line outputs for monitors.
