8 in/6 out FireWire interface featuring 2 high-quality, award-winning Focusrite preamps.

The Focusrite Saffire PRO 14 is an 8 in/6 out FireWire audio interface designed for the modern home studio. Two award-winning preamps inheriting the Focusrite legacy dating back to the days of Mr. Rupert Neve provide Focusrite's legendary sonic performance. Digital and analog I/O combine with Focusrite's established MixControl software to deliver seamless integration, excellent routing flexibility, and rock-solid driver stability.

Along with the 2 high-quality mic preamps, 2 additional analog inputs, 4 analog outputs, S/PDIF, and MIDI open the door to true multitrack recording. Two Hi-Z instrument inputs let you plug straight in without the need to buy additional DI boxes, and two virtual Loopback inputs are also available for routing digital audio between software applications-ideal for capturing online audio.

Included with the PRO 14 is Saffire MixControl, an 18 x 6 DSP mixer. Offering a level of flexibility that is unparalleled at this price point, MixControl software enables you to create six separate mixes without latency. Route any combination of input signals and sequencer outputs to any of Saffire PRO 14's outputs. Intuitive one-click configurations help you track, monitor and mix as quickly as possible.

Focusrite's established Xcite+ bundle is also included. The bundle features Ableton Live Lite (for all your production, performance and compositional needs), Novation's Bass Station soft synth and over 1 gig of royalty-free samples from Loopmasters.

With Saffire PRO 14, sonic integrity is never compromised. The two Focusrite preamps ensure low noise and distortion, whilst quality digital conversion and JetPLL jitter elimination technology ensure pristine quality as your audio flows between the analogue and digital domains. Combined with the very latest in FireWire interfacing technology, excellent routing flexibility and rock-solid driver stability, the Saffire PRO 14 is the heart of the modern home studio.

Focusrite's popular Saffire Firewire interfaces are fully compatible with Thunderbolt ports on Mac computers. All you need to connect the two is a FireWire 400-800 cable (included with all new Saffire interfaces later this year) and the Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter (not included). Simply plug this into the Thunderbolt port on your computer and connect the FireWire interface - it's as simple as that. Saffire interfaces are 100% compatible with Thunderbolt using this adaptor.

All Saffire FireWire and Thunderbolt-compatible interfaces now come bundled with Focusrite's Midnight plug-in suite for free upon registration. The Midnight plug-in suite models two of the most iconic Focusrite modules of all time - the ISA110 equaliser and ISA130 compressor - and gives them elegant, functional on-screen front panels for easy control.

Note: Includes the Focusrite Red 2 and Red 3 Plug-In Suite (AAX/AU/VST) upon registration of interface. Accurately modeled on the classic Red 2 EQ and Red 3 Compressor, the Red plug-ins let you exploit the sound of the hardware originals, conveniently from within Pro Tools (10 and above) and other audio software.

  • After a month of research I purchased this. WOW!

As reviewed by WILLIAM WENDLAND on 9/13/2012

Having trouble deciding on (Firewire) vs (USB) just read the wikipedia information on USB2.0 and Firewire 1394a and you'll see firewire is much better for music recording and other audio/video hardware. This is a 6-pin Firewire, it does come with a firewire cable It does work as a stand alone preamp mixer without a computer, and comes with an AC power adapter, no PC needed FYI. PC users, DO NOT USE THE CD, go to the focusrite website and the download latest Saffire Mix Control, as well as getting the latest abelton download at ableton website., works perfect first time. *** Make sure you are not using a crappy firewire chip, if using an express card especially, google "firewire chip texas instruments focusrite" and use the recomended chip. texas instruments is the best one, and most comnon in high end computers. *** I was using a GNX4, and a GNX3000 USB interface, and when I plugged into this my sound was much better just using the headphones, I was so excited how it opened up my music and sounded very wide and clear. I am using the 2 preamps as a stereo line. My favorite part is saffire mix control. you can create several configurations on the PC, you can also save a configuration to the pro 12's memory. this is the best sound card next to a pcie card. I have owned it for 2 weeks. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit on an i7 920 X58, no crashes, no errors. running 24-bit 96khz with several tracks of audio. When using this correctly, it is a powerful machine. not a good gaming sound card though. I hope this review helps someone.

  • Great unit! Very pleased with purchase!

As reviewed by Jeff Neisz on 9/20/2012

I bought this about a year and a half ago and it still works flawlessly so I'm pleased with the reliability. I do not really use the software so I cannot really comment on that. The plugins are decent but I rarely use them because I have a huge arsenal of effects and I tend to default to the others just out of habit. I basically bought it for the interface and pres. The pres on this are great, very clean and transparent. This is great for someone like me, an independent solo artist who records 1 performance at a time. I will record in stereo sometimes as well with different mics and I love that option. The only complaints I have is that is does not have a power switch, which someone else mentioned, and that I cant mount it in my rack. I guess I could get a rack drawer for it but this particular unit is meant to be portable. Other than those two things, I'm completely happy with this purchase. Its a great value for the cost and I actually had people tell me that they cannot believe I get such professional recordings out of a this low priced interface/preamp combo. I actually went in to get an interface for about a little less and am so glad the rep talked me into this one instead. Definately worth it and definately worth 5 STARS!!

  • Saffire Pro 14

As reviewed by Erik Larson on 1/31/2012

I had to spend an extra 30 bucks for a different firewire cable to fit into the port on my iMac. No big deal. The unit works great. Input signals are clear. I don't know about the Saffire recording software - I have Logic and don't use it. My only complaint is that is does not have an OFF switch. You have to unplug it to turn it off.
