The finest value for the budget-conscious beginning student with genuine ebony fittings. Hand-carved spruce top, maple back, sides, and neck; 4 fine tuners built in to the composite tailpiece; Brazilwood bow with natural horsehair; lightweight case with backpack and shoulder straps. Amazingly rich sound.
Really not worth the price. One of the strings broke twice on the first day. GC was very cooperative and ensured that I was totally satisfied with the purchase and had the string replaced, installed, and tuned on the first day of purchase. However when my son started playing it the same string broke again later on that evening. He took it to school the next day and his violing teacher told him it needed repairs and should take it to a violing repair shop. Something about the tuning screws was defective. The lightweight softcover case ripped in two places the first day. We took it back to GC and replaced it with the next step up.
Where do I start? It's an all around great violin for a beginner student, which I am. I have no complaints on workmanship whatsoever. It's beautiful, sounds great, and will get me through to my goal of learning how to play. I'm proud of my violin and happy to have it.
This violin loses 2 stars and this is why: My 11 yr old son was accepted to a performing arts school last school year and because of his accomplishment I decided to buy him his own violin. The case is feather weight which is great because he carries a very heavy book bag and does not need the extra weight. The case has straps so he can carry it on his back like a book bag but the straps broke off within the first week so needless to say the way they are attatched is poor BUT thank goodness the case has a handle which is good. The violin itself is beautiful in appearance. The bow is also good and does not have any frayed hairs. My biggest complaint and what I consider to be its down fall is the pegs, they do not stay tight which causes the violin to not stay in tune. This is a big problem because for my sons end of the year recital his violin was not in tune. His teacher tried very hard to fix this problem and it was difficult. I now have to invest in new pegs before this school year begins and unfortunately the pegs cost a pretty penny if u want good pegs. The straps could have been better and the pegs which are VERY IMPORTANT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
