Designed for the singer/songwriter, the SA220 Solo Performance System is a powerful, yet lightweight, system-providing exceptional sound quality and coverage in a wide variety of venues. 220 watts of clean, lightweight power drive a line array of six custom high-excursion speakers and a soft-dome tweeter. This unique combination delivers incredibly full sound, ultra-wide dispersion, and deeper sonic penetration than the common speaker cabinet. Better yet, the enhanced bass response of the custom-designed speakers means there's no need for a subwoofer.

With the SA220 system, the performer and audience hear exactly the same sound, meaning there's no need for separate wedge monitors or a combo amp backline. The SA220 is voiced for the singer/songwriter, acoustic instruments and vocals are projected with superb depth and clarity.

The ultimate in portability

The SA220 weighs only 25 lb., ships complete with a padded bag equipped with wheels, and includes a rugged speaker stand. Set up takes less than a minute, with only one trip to the car. Plus full-digital universal power means that its amplification system is ready to travel anywhere in the world (compatible with international power systems).

Features that performing musicians demand

Fishman didn't make the SA220 this portable by scaling back on features or tone. It's also equipped with two mic/instrument channels featuring high-quality preamps, each with 3-band EQ, phantom power, built-in reverb, effects loop, and feedback-fighting notch filter, and phase controls. In fact, Fishman included all of the prized elements of the Loudbox family amps and added a unique monitor feature designed to revolutionize an acoustic duo's ability to hear each other on stage.

I've been using this for 4 months now, playing solo gigs 3 - 4 times a week. I LOVE IT!!! I have the Bose tower and I was tired of lugging around the floor piece, the speakers (which I have in a heavy hardshell case), and the subwoofer, plus the guitar, mic, and vocalist harmonizer I use. The Fishman is so lightweight, it's like the size of a golf bag. I make 2 trips now, one with the Fishman and the Taylor, the other with my 2 stands, (mic & guitar), gig bag (containing vocalist harmonizer and chords) & tip jar. That's it! I can literally have it all set up and ready to go in 10 - 15 minutes. The sound is rich, full and clean, and it carries well. I've used it in venues from 50 to 350 people and in odd shaped places, and still, the surround sound carries well to every corner. People sitting 3 feet in front of me are not blown away and people sitting the furthest away can still hear a nice clear sound. I was partial to Bose since I used that for years, but now I love the Fishman and rarely even use my Bose anymore. This is so much better!

I'm not sure what the big hoopla about this unit is. After using a friend's for a couple gigs and thinking it was decent, I took the plunge and bought one for myself for pub gigs, decent-sized bars, weddings, etc. The great thing about this unit is that it is very portable, and discreet when set up. However, I didn't find the sound quality to be that great at this price. The mid EQ on this unit is very odd and pretty well useless. A friend of mine rented the unit for a wedding that I was a part of, and we both agreed that the mids were awful, on several guitars. I would have thought it was the guitar used but I'm running a great Larrivée with a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup, so quality there is not an issue. I also find the tone to be very "boxy", perhaps due to the small speakers. I didn't find that bringing the tweeter in or out of the mix did anything to help it's cause. Definitely not worth the price tag. The Bose L1 with an external mixer, or the paired Bose mixer for more money (so that you have more EQ options and reverb, delay effects) seems like it would be a better idea. I've tried the L1 and it's definitely got much more boom than the Fishman, and much more multi-directional. Usually I'm a Fishman fan, but this unit isn't a glowing example of their brand.

Comments about Fishman SA220 Solo Performance System & Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

Avoid getting this solo Pa system! You will waste your money. I am a musician that plays about 4 - 6 shows a week. Each show being about 2 - 4hour sets. I make my living being a musician and I depend on my equipment to work. The system has been such a headache. After about six months of using this system it started to crack on both channel 1 & 2. Then the PA would randomly completely shut off. In the middle of a song of course. Very embarrassing and unprofessional. I called Fishman and after months of following their directions and having them have me take it apart and send parts back to them they finally told me the problem was "intermittent" and they sent me a new front panel to replace the channels. It worked okay for about an hour and started cracking again and shutting off again. I am very disheartened to the fact that I wasted all that money on a system that stressed me out as much as it did and only worked for about 6 months. I wasted valuable time and money on this system. It is not reliable at all.

My experience with two of these SA220 amps was very negative

Comments about Fishman SA220 Solo Performance System & Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

I have two of these SA220 amps and both repeatedly fail. I'm a professional musician playing every weekend solo. I bought a second SA220 as a spare after having some technical problems with the first one. I figured it was an isolated problem and I liked the sound quality so much that I stuck with the Fishman. However, both systems have repeatedly failed me at gigs... Without warning. These things were priced at over nine-hundred and I only got three years light use out of the first one before it started failing. The second one failed within the first year. Sending the product back to Fishman for service resulted in no resolution at all. I opened it after receiving it back from Fishman tech support, only to find it still didn't work. I had to send each one back to Fishman for repair and neither time did the unit come back fixed. My experience with this unit and with Fishman customer/technical support has lead me to steer ALL of my musician friends away from Fishman altogether. At the time that I bought this I was considering the comparably-priced Bose solo amp. I chose the Fishman and deeply regret it. It is not reliable for a professional musician and is too high-priced for a hobby amp. I will be avoiding Fishman products from now on!

Big enough for a Gospel Quartet!

Comments about Fishman SA220 Solo Performance System & Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this Solo amp last Christmas and I absolutely love it! I also purchased an Alto six channel mixer and I plug it into one of the channels of the Fishman. I run four wireless mics, a keyboard, and my Taylor Acoustic Guitar through the mixer and the sound is incredible. The sound is clean and loud, and the set up is quick and easy, and it's light and easy on the back! I really like having it set up behind me, I can hear the vocals better than any monitor that I've ever used before. I'm honestly amazed at how well it does all this, with such good highs and lows. We play mostly smaller churches and so far it's been plenty of sound for every setting we've used it for. It's not quite big enough to do much outside, but I do use it as a monitor with my bigger Yamaha system. I would strongly recommend it to use in smaller venues!

Not much to say. Same price tag that overrides the positive. I go with stuff less expensive (like tiny monitors) upstairs, in the corners and my solo, duo or jazz groups are in stereo with a feather touch or just spread the venue. Good unit, just way over-priced.

Comments about Fishman SA220 Solo Performance System & Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

This product has been indespensible for me and my duo partner. When compared to the Bose system of equal quality, I chose the Fishman because it was nearly twice as powerful for the same price (at th time). For the past three and a half years, I have used this system four times a week and always get compliments on how clear it sounds and how much square footage it covers. I have actually convinced about four people that I know of to buy one (with no commission btw). The only major negatives I have with it is the case it comes with. It has wheels but the wheel base is so narrow that it is nearly impossible to manuvure so I end having to carry it by its shoulder strap. One of the wheels has come off and the zipper tab has long broken off. Again, I put it through its paces and have done hundreds of shows with it. My duo partner has bought one just like it and we now run them together to get an even wider spread. It is kind of limited when it comes to effects (reverb with four settings) but I run some outboard gear to get any needed sound modifications, so it's no biggie. To be clear, this is mainly for acoustic guitars and vocals since it has no real bass response to speak of. We add a sub for more dynamics, but that is to taste. It has been a godsend for me since my back surgery. It's relatively light and other than the case, I really have nothing but praise of it.

This system is excellent for small venues, and I highly recommend it. I like it better than the Bose compact system, because the Aux channel is flat, and you can adjust the tone of the microphone better. I used it for an outdoor event, at a school, for the first time and it worked like a champ! I'm keeping my Fishman sa220.

bought two SA220's for my acoustic show which includes two guitars bass and percussion. One stopped working after the warranty was up. I contacted Fishman for the repairs they sent me an RA to send it back. I was prepared to pay for the repair knowing it was out of warranty. To my surprise I sent it to them and within a week They sent me back a new in the box unit. The only thing I paid for is the shipping to the factory. This is a great sounding small PA and the icing on the cake for me is the great customer service at Fishman. I am hooked no pun intended. A helpful hint if you are looking to add more bottom end as we do we hookup our QSC K-12 powered speakers to the monitor out and hook up a mixer to the monitor in the results are we can set up the full band with the PA behind us with a lot of punch and control over the volume and tone. We have been using Boss GT-100's for electric guitar sounds the bass direct, and mics on the kick drum and overheads. The sound is fantastic. Try experimenting with these versatile Fishtics. It is everthing that Bose wants to be only with a warmer sound and more power.
