Overview

They have brilliant overtones for a full, resonant tone, a quick response for better articulation, and excellent pitch stability and intonation, even for clarinet. Best of all, they have the same woody tone as cane but with better projection. Fibracell reeds even have the same weight and stiffness as cane (cane floats and so does Fibracell!) but they last up to 4 times longer with no unplayable reeds and aren't affected by heat or humidity. With their high strength and long-lasting durability, they're less likely to give out on you in the middle of a performance, too.

What is Fibracell?

Fibracell is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to exactly duplicate the way nature constructs the cane that goes into the very best cane reeds. Very stiff but sound-absorbing Kevlar fibers are suspended in a lightweight rosin using extremely exacting production standards. Each reed is precisely machined and trimmed for a consistently perfect shape, so you get the same reed time and time again.

I've played clarinet for too many years to mention. I recently ordered one each of the various brands of synthetic reeds to give them a try. The Fibracell reed is amazing! I will never play a cane reed again.

Something worth mentioning is there is no break in or conditioning needed and they don't need to be wet. I place my reed and immediately have a consistent, crisp tone - every time.

I'm playing a concert that starts off with a high C which can be terrifying when there's a few thousand people waiting for that first note! Fortunately, this reed allows me to know I'll be ready to go with no worries.

Reed too soft

This reed is much softer than a cane 2.5 reed. Cannot play upper register in tune.

Comments about Fibracell Premier Synthetic Bb Clarinet Reed:

Purchased for use on a soprano sax, as well as a clarinet. Very good on either one. Life expectancy and consistent quality makes these reeds cheaper than cane reeds.

I purchased a 3 strength and should have a 3 1/2 or 4. The 3 strength is inadequate for me.

Comments about Fibracell Premier Synthetic Bb Clarinet Reed:

I have played the clarinet for over 25 years and have always used the traditional Vandoren reeds. A bass clarinet player in our church orchestra was using a synthetic reed and loved it. Her tone was excellent, so I decided to try one, since the price was very reasonable. I am extremely pleased with every aspect of this reed! No "break in" time needed. Has a great tone with my Jody Jazz mouthpiece I bought a few months ago from Musicians Friend. High notes very easy to achieve and no squeaking! I bought this one as a back-up, since I have no idea how long they will last. I have been using my first synthetic reed for 5 months and it is still firm and sounds great. I read the reviews and was uncertain what strength to get, so I decided to go with a 3. I think it's the perfect strength for me. Next time, I might try a 4 and see if there is a significant difference.

                About Me Experienced

Comments about Fibracell Premier Synthetic Bb Clarinet Reed:

I was impressed with other reviews, & very curious, so I bought 1 reed, taking the advice of others & getting one a little stiffer than I play with in a cane reed (i.e., 3 instead of 2 1/2. That was good advice.
Overall, I found the reed to be inconsistent. It produced drop-dead gorgeous tones in the lowest notes. My clarinet plays a little sharp (I need to get a longer barrel), but it was in tune with the Fibracell -- until I got to the higher notes (highest C & D), which ran flat, & didn't have the nice tone I can get with a cane reed.
It'll be useful in orchestra until I get a new barrel, & can be a spare to use in a pinch, but that's all.
