Overview

The Fender '65 Super Reverb Combo Amp is a long overdue addition to Fender's Vintage Reissue series. Here's a faithful re-creation of the legendary and highly collectible Blackface Super Reverb from the 1960s. This 45W, all-tube combo with 4 x 10" Jensen speakers, tube reverb, and vibrato has long been considered one of the best amps to "crank up" for unmiked club gigs or on the concert stage. The all-time bluesy, funky rocker! Includes 2-button footswitch.

Designed to sound as close to the original as possible, the ˜65 Reissues are assembled in Corona, California and feature Jensen speakers (One C12K for the Deluxe and two C12Ks for the Twin, four P10Rs for the Super and one C10R for the Princeton), Schumacher transformers, traditional tremolo and tube-driven reverb to create that classic, "Blackface" sound so many players desire. They do have PCBs (Printed Curcuit Boards), as opposed to the original's "hand-wired" circuitry, but the components (capacitors and resistors) are the same values as amps from that period. They also have hand-wired tube sockets and other parts for added strength.

Tonal Characteristics: Bright, scooped midrange that is known as the "Blackface" sound, pronounced "Wine Glass" highs from the Jensen speakers and a slightly more polite power amp for crystal cleans that can also be cranked for great overdriven tones.
Who's it for: Players that love the original versions but are priced out of owning vintage amps, blues players, country players, rock players, guitarists trying to get classic "Blackface" sounds (a la Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer), American-made amp enthusiasts, traditionalists, avid Fender collectors.

Super Reverb Review

By JG

from SoCal

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just like the name of the amp, it's Super. If i could only own one amp - this is it... Phenomenal tone, good head room for effects, sounds especially great with all my single coil guitars, sounds unbelievable with a Gibson 335. Certain overdrive/distortions aren't heavy enough if you play metal. This amp is all about CLEAN TONE. This amp really sends out the true sound of your pickups...

Super Excellent - Super Reverb!

By Hound Dog

from Michigan

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

I own 6 amps and the Fender Super Reverb is in my arsenal. This amp is very throaty sounding and is probably the best amp I know for sweet sounding punchy rhythms. I love the warm tone and the volume can handle any club with ease! Nothing compliments a Fender Stratocaster better than this adorable sounding amp! If you are looking for that perfect amp that is "not too big and heavy, but not too small" the Fender Super Reverb is your best choice!

Played it

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've got an original 65. I love it. The rest of the musicians pray that I never sell it. But... I played a the Reissue. Dang! How can anything that is perfect get any better. I guess it's all the mess with UL compliancy that changed the character or maybe engineers are getting smarter. Either, side by side, IMHO the reissue has more dynamics end to end.

Big and Beautiful!

By BK at WL

from West Linn, Oregon

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

I finally had a chance to try out this rather hard-to-find Fender bigger than life amp. It looks great, and while not a light-weight, 65 lbs is entirely manageable. And, the sound, WOW, this is pure Fender! I love the reverb, sounds as good as my RI outboard tank, and the tremolo is super-useable. I love this amp, and intend to make it my own!

There is an effects loop its just a little different

By Guitarnerd I IV V

from Hamilton MA

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

The biggest complaint I hear all the time about this lengendarily good amp is the fact that it doesn't have an effects loop. Technically this is true. If however, you are able to think outside of the box and in terms of old circuitry schemes, you will soon discover the second and secret reason for having multiple inputs on each channel. The inputs are wired in a bus topology so the signal of the first can go through the pre amp and be diverted to the second. By pluging in to input one and having another cable plugged in to input 2 (which is now an effects send) you can have this signal go through a line of effects pedals (provided they are able to withstand the audio levels of an effects loop which are much higher than the original signal)and in to the 1st input of the channel you didn't plug the guitar in to which is in effect an effects return jack. WARNING do not turn up the volume past 1 or 2 at the most on the second channel (the one receiving the effects loop) doing so will raise the signal to levels that will hit the power amp too hard and burn it out.

Big Fender Tone,

By Jim Pfeifer

from Phoenix, Arizona

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp to provide a bigger vintage Fender tone, since I play in a band that does a lot of music from the early 60s (surf, R&B, rock-a-billy, country, etc). After looking at various reviews of different Fender amps (Twin, Vibrolux, Deluxe, Bassman, etc) I finally decided that a Super Reverb would be a good choice for what I was looking for. The thing that makes the Super Reverb stand out (tone wise) is that it uses a 4x10 speaker configuration (similar to a Bassman) and it has a tube rectifier (also like the Bassman). But unlike the Bassman it has this gorgeous reverb and tremolo. As compared with a Fender Twin, the Super is a little warmer sounding and a bit more "spongier" due to the tube rectifier. It also breaks up easier than a Twin, making it more like a Deluxe where you want just a big of grit but still plenty of headroom to play loud and clean. These aspects make the Super Reverb an excellent choice for doing rockabilly and country tones as well as Blues. It's the best sounding amp I've ever heard for a Strat or Tele. The Strat comes alive with a tone and responsiveness that put you into Blues heaven. I also use a guitar with TV Jones Filtertrons and it provides a fantastic tone for surf/rockabilly styles. The Reverb on this amp is probably the best spring reverb I've ever heard on a tube amp. It's huge sounding! Set the amp volume on 4, set the reverb to 5 and you have one of the best sounds for classic surf tone that you'll ever need. I'm digging this amp so much. The only down side is the size and weight. But it is manageable. The amp quiets down nicely also. It's one of the best sounding amps for clean finger-style Jazz (get's a fantastic Wes Montgomery tone, ... he actually used these amps). So bottom line is that I highly recommend this amp if you play rockabilly, surf, country, classic rock, or blues. I wouldn't reccomend the amp if you play metal or are looking for more of a Marshall tone, however the amp does take pedals nicely.

AMAZING AMP

By Christian Paley

from Tampa FL

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '65 Super Reverb 4X10 Guitar Combo Amp:

Too Bad after 2 days of owning it when bad. Started to get that popcorn noise or crackling noise you get on an amp when a tube goes bad or whatever. but at 2 days old i shouldn't have to pay for replacement tubes. so I had a choice to return it for a full refund or return it and send it off to guitar center third party repair people with a hold time of 1 week and another week to order the new parts. Not worth it in my case. I just returned it and got my money back. I would recommend this amp I must have just receive 1 of the rare bad batches made in the USA not in Mexico...sounds amazing for the last 2 days i own it. anyway GL
