Overview

The straightforward Fender 59 Bassman outperforms most of the fancy amps on the market today. In the 1950s, the Bassman was perfect for amplifying that new invention, the Fender Precision Bass. This 50W rig allowed the bass to hold its own onstage with drums, electric guitars, and miked piano, the common instrumentation of the day. Over the years, it also won the hearts of guitarists who, after experimenting with all kinds of preamps and effects racks, found its simplicity, great tone, excellent dispersion, and touch-sensitive dynamics a true pleasure. This reissue is true to the original while adding several enhancements: U.S.-made GT-6L6 output tubes, improved 12AX7 preamp tubes, and an internal bias pot, making it easier to experiment with other output tubes. It also features a genuine lacquered tweed covering, solid finger-jointed pine cabinet, and an original-spec 4AR4 rectifier tube for natural compression when you play hard. Includes fitted cover.

Natural Tube Overdrive

By Bluesfan64

from Dallas TX

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I had planned to buy the Bassman originally, but I chose the VOX AC30CC1 because I got a great price on it. As good of an amp as the VOX is the tone was a little too jangly for my taste, so I ended up trading the VOX for the 59 Bassman. When I first brought it home I thought that the Bassman's tone was rather dry and more or less non-descript sounding. But my experience with other equipment has taught me that most musical instruments don't sound their best until after they break in. So I connected my CD player to the Bassman and just let it play. After several days everything started to break-in and the sound started to blossom. The amp and speakers gradually loosened up and out jumped that vintage tube overdrive that I was dreaming of when I bought it! After some experimentation, I found that an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9 really works well with this amp. I can highly recommend this amp for anyone who is seeking a natural overdriven tube sound and if you can live without reverb! (Upcoming purchase) But don't judge your tone until after it's had about 40 hours of break-in time.

59 Bassman

By Mr. Bassman

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

The only feature is tone. Sounds great with input crossing. Gets loud too. Just add effect pedals and you can use this amp for just about any style music. Carrying my 40lbs pedal board every time got old though. I use 6 pedals plus a cry baby and volume pedal too. SKBps45 pedal board. So I bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for the reverb and channel switching for overdrive to use at rehearsels and tight spaced venues and so forth.Sounds great as well. The Bassman for larger venues. Add a reverb pedal and get chills down your spine. You will love it!

where Real tone comes from

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I was hesitant at first to trade in my marshall stack and take a large loss for money towards a bassman. Im so glad I did becuase this amp is unbelieveable. The range of sound it produces is so broad, and when that rectifier tube kicks in , its just the sound everyone desires. The lacquered tweed is great too. Don't think twice about buying this amp, you'll be glad you do.

Tone for the Purist.

By larryguitar

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

The other reviewer here is correct. This is an amp for a niche market. There is nothing in the way of features except basic EQ and Presence. But if you are a Telecster "clean" player this is about as good as it gets. And it will take a T808 and Damage Control Glass Nexus and give you every sound you would ever need.

Great value for the money

By curt

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

This is an incredible amp at a reasonable price. An amp I will never sell. Put a 12AT7 in V1 right away to bring down the pre-gain and warm the amp up. A lot of people complain about the Jensen speakers, but the "ice pick highs" can be attributed to Fender shipping the amp with a 12AX7 in V1 -- which is a super high gain tube, and not true to the original bassman spec. Personally, I run a JJ GZ34 rectifier, Tung-sol reissue 5881's in the power section, and 12AX7s in the pre, with a 12AT7 in V1. This configuration sounds amazing and is as true to original spec you can get without modifying the power section or re-wiring by hand - the amp does an amazing job of replicating the true nature of whatever guitar you're playing through it. I play either a Tele, Strat or Les Paul, all sound incredible. This is primarily a clean or overdrive sound amp. To get a harder distortion/rock sound, throw a Rat in front of it. However if you want a pure amp-driven distortion, you will not get it with this amp at reasonable volumes -- buy a VOX or a Marshall.

Marshall who???

By Joe

from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I bought this amp after trying several other amps over a 10 year period. I originally bought a marshall 100 watt 2X12 combo for what I thought would be a lot of power. The amp sounded bad...and it wasn't even loud. The bassman does NOT have a lot of flashy extras, but it doesn't need them. This amp is powerful and the tone is the best I've found in 10 years. Also, don't forget that you can jump the channels for even more control over the volume and tone. I use a Boss ME-50 for effects and it sounds great!!! GREAT AMP FENDER!!

Holy Grail of Guitar Amplifers

By Robert Williams

from Midland, Michigan

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

Honeydripper for tone... I always wanted a Fender Twin and decided to get one, but as I was researching and studying up on them I came across the 59 Bassman Ltd Reissue, which is a natural progression given the type of amplifier the Bassman is comparable to the Twin. After seeing 99% of reviews being 4 or 5 stars out of 5 for owners of the original Bassman's and the Reissues I thought I should try one for myself and Guitar Center happen to have a used 59 Bassman Ltd Reissue for $899. This used Bassman still had the plastic seal on the nameplate. Essentially in new condition. I plugged in a American made Strat and it was everything I had heard and/or read about and more. The Holy Grail of Guitar amplifiers for the tone. I bought it and I'm very happy with it. I have only had it for a week so, hopefully the Fender craftsmanship I have grown accustomed to in my 35 years of playing will continue with my Bassman. I definitely recommend the Fender 59 Bassman to anyone that knows anything about tone. This amp could be used for any style of music, but would need a distortion pedal for any rock or metal playing. I don't currently use pedals, but I know enough about sound/tone to know that this amp would eat pedals up. Also, in the reviews I have read many many players say this amp loves pedals, which is no surprise to me. It's all about TONE and the Fender 59 Bassman has The Tone. Get one!

great amp, the real deal, loud & toneful

By Neal A Vaisey

from rochester, ny

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

This amp is the real deal, no onboard effects, just plug in & rock, I've worked at many music stores & just cant find a better amp. I use a fender reverb tank when playing in a smaller room (in a bigger room reverb occurs naturally anyway). Most of the 50 watt tube amps in the world were based on this design, that's because Leo Fender got it right the first time!!!!!!!!!!!! It does require some "break in time" to reach its full potential, but that is true of any amp (especially tube amps) anyway this is one sweet amp!!!!!!!

59 Bassman RI

By Tom Yanello

from New York ,NY

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I have had this amp for about a year,I also have a tolex Blues Jr. and a Tweed NOS Blues Jr.Since I do not gig,I usually play through the smaller Blues Jr.They are both adequate for my needs;however when I want to blow my windows out,I use the 59 Bassman. It is tremendously powerful, can deliver huge tone and presence, and I have found no other amp that does it better, period! The only effects I use are an Ibanez Tube screamer,a Phase 90,and a Boss equalizer.Kudos to Fender !They have given us a gem of an amplifier!
