Overview

The straightforward Fender 59 Bassman outperforms most of the fancy amps on the market today. In the 1950s, the Bassman was perfect for amplifying that new invention, the Fender Precision Bass. This 50W rig allowed the bass to hold its own onstage with drums, electric guitars, and miked piano, the common instrumentation of the day. Over the years, it also won the hearts of guitarists who, after experimenting with all kinds of preamps and effects racks, found its simplicity, great tone, excellent dispersion, and touch-sensitive dynamics a true pleasure. This reissue is true to the original while adding several enhancements: U.S.-made GT-6L6 output tubes, improved 12AX7 preamp tubes, and an internal bias pot, making it easier to experiment with other output tubes. It also features a genuine lacquered tweed covering, solid finger-jointed pine cabinet, and an original-spec 4AR4 rectifier tube for natural compression when you play hard. Includes fitted cover.

I bought a'65 Reissue Twin Reverb at MF online after trying used Bassman and Twin reissues at a local store. I play blues, classic rock, and some clean stuff. The four corners of our sound might be Little Wing to Born Under a Bad Sign to Ramble On to Break Down. I play with a guy who has a 100W EVH 5150 amp and had a hard time being heard so I wanted something with some volume. While the Twin certainly had plenty of volume I found it did not take (quality) pedals as well as I would like. I'm talking about Blues Driver and GMD Luther etc. While it took time based pedal very well the response to distortion pedals was a very loud clean version of distortion and not the beautiful warm overdriven tube tone bolstered by the pedal which I wanted. As I am writing this it occurs to me that this should be self evident. I exchanged the Twin for the Bassman and what a difference! First thing I noticed is the woody resonance of the cabinet. Just setting it down on the ground or tapping on the cab like a drum produces a beautiful natural wood tone. I like it loud and turned about a third to half way up which would be plenty of volume for a small to medium venue it starts to break up beautifully. Mixed into the warm tube overdrive tone are swirling natural harmonics which makes the sound richly complex and to some degree replaces reverb. The tone of this amp is outstanding for what I play. I transport the amp to our practice sessions and while it is on the heavy side it is not burdensome. It's worth it because the amp gives me confidence that I can be heard with a tone that inspires me.

This amp is horrible for the price. I bought one new and couldn't wait to try it out. I got it home and plugged in (played at volume of two, mind you) and about 30 min later the amp was crackling and popping. It sounds like crap pure and simple. I love fender products, just not this one.

This amp is only a month old. I just like to look at it. When I play it? My body gets all warm and fuzzy. The sounds at low volumes are really nice. The sound of the real pine cabinet blow my deluxe reverb out of the water. It's amazing!!

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I had this amp for 3 weeks now. It is proving to be a tone monster! From the wood used to the workmanship. If you play any type of guitar style, This amp, with the use of pedals does it all!
The warm sound is there and I am not changing tubes or anything, It is not even broken in yet and the sounds at lower volumes make you play more and longer. It is the perfect guitar amplifier!
I highly recommend this. It is a keeper!!!

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

I've played in a band, worship team and open mic's before. I have several guitars yet my go to electric is a Fender Stratocaster built to 1958 specifications. I bought this model amp as I believe it was one of the two that Buddy Holly used during the 1959 Winter Dance Party. Also due to my guitar teacher allowing me to use his and recommendation of same.

I've been pleased to a point of giddiness.from the first time I turned on the amp and strummed a 'C chord.

You won't be disappointed with the choice of this classic amplifier.

      Great value for the money

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

This is an incredible amp at a reasonable price. An amp I will never sell. Put a 12AT7 in V1 right away to bring down the pre-gain and warm the amp up. A lot of people complain about the Jensen speakers, but the "ice pick highs" can be attributed to Fender shipping the amp with a 12AX7 in V1 -- which is a super high gain tube, and not true to the original bassman spec. Personally, I run a JJ GZ34 rectifier, Tung-sol reissue 5881's in the power section, and 12AX7s in the pre, with a 12AT7 in V1. This configuration sounds amazing and is as true to original spec you can get without modifying the power section or re-wiring by hand - the amp does an amazing job of replicating the true nature of whatever guitar you're playing through it. I play either a Tele, Strat or Les Paul, all sound incredible. This is primarily a clean or overdrive sound amp. To get a harder distortion/rock sound, throw a Rat in front of it. However if you want a pure amp-driven distortion, you will not get it with this amp at reasonable volumes -- buy a VOX or a Marshall.

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

Wow! These guys weren't kidding when they said you can hear every note. You had better be on your A game if your gigging with this amp. It's nothing short of amazing. It as clean and warm as people have mentioned and breaks up wonderfully at higher volumes. When I say "higher volumes" I mean wear ear plugs. I played through a Blues Deville for the last 20 years. Although it has more features, effects loop etc., it sounds no where near as sweet as the Bassman.
When I want to get away from a clean sound I use a Pod hd500x and it sounds great too. Along with my 91 deluxe plus strat, this will be my rig for many years to come.
For you Les Paul fans, I have played one through this amp and you wont be disappointed. Sounds as awesome as a strat.

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

A lot of people who commented had only recently gotten this amp. I've had mine for 11 years now. ZERO issues. Taken it across the country many times. Bought a good case for it, of course, which it lives in when not being used--so it still looks like the day I bought it. The amazing thing is the sound. It will expose poor technique and musicality (which still haunts me from time to time). No hiding behind effects here! Pure unadulturated tone. Beautiful.

This amp will keep warming up the older it gets and the more it's played. Now after 11 years, it sings-- no matter what style you are playing...it's amp perfection. I tend to mainly play rock and blues, and it's simply perfect.

Be warned though: this thing's a monster-- Get a good airline case with castors. Makes all the difference. I've used it to play big and small venues. Slap a mic on it and away you go. And yes, this amp goes to 11--so it's louder then, isn't it...

        Holy Grail of Guitar Amplifers

        By Robert Williams

        from Midland, Michigan

Comments about Fender Vintage Reissue '59 Bassman LTD 4X10 Guitar Combo:

Honeydripper for tone... I always wanted a Fender Twin and decided to get one, but as I was researching and studying up on them I came across the 59 Bassman Ltd Reissue, which is a natural progression given the type of amplifier the Bassman is comparable to the Twin. After seeing 99% of reviews being 4 or 5 stars out of 5 for owners of the original Bassman's and the Reissues I thought I should try one for myself and Guitar Center happen to have a used 59 Bassman Ltd Reissue for $899. This used Bassman still had the plastic seal on the nameplate. Essentially in new condition. I plugged in a American made Strat and it was everything I had heard and/or read about and more. The Holy Grail of Guitar amplifiers for the tone. I bought it and I'm very happy with it. I have only had it for a week so, hopefully the Fender craftsmanship I have grown accustomed to in my 35 years of playing will continue with my Bassman. I definitely recommend the Fender 59 Bassman to anyone that knows anything about tone. This amp could be used for any style of music, but would need a distortion pedal for any rock or metal playing. I don't currently use pedals, but I know enough about sound/tone to know that this amp would eat pedals up. Also, in the reviews I have read many many players say this amp loves pedals, which is no surprise to me. It's all about TONE and the Fender 59 Bassman has The Tone. Get one!

I love this amp for its tone and character for blues and rock, but it sure is versatile for pedals and boards for other genres. I bought a Level 2 Used, and it was like new. It came with manual, cover, all tags, was in pristine condition, and working order. It didn't even have all the dents and scuff marks it was described as having! I basically got a new premium classic Fender all tube amp for way cheaper. SCORE!

I purchased this Amp as a used but in very good condition. The first time I plugged in to it I heard a buzz and the fuse blew. I replaced the fuse with another 3 amp fuse and got the same result. I am pleased with the service I get from Musicians Friend's Customer Service Department they got right on it and sent me a shipping label right away. I am lucky I had my old amp with me for that performance. I feel the amps should be closely checked out before shipping. Just a suggestion.
