Overview

Fender's 2x10 12W Vaporizer tube combo evokes the 1950s-™60s age of the Space Race and blasts you like a ray gun back to that exciting era. The Space Race permeated culture everywhere, from film and television to cars, guitars, appliances and more ” everything was bright, colorful and flashy. Garage bands blasted off with guitar music, and legions of musicians who couldn't swing pro gear bashed away on department-store guitars and amps.

Though it presents an out-of-this-world retro look, it houses an affordable, portable tube-driven tone machine with easy-to-use features and effects.

The Vaporizer hosts two inputs (normal and bright) and simple controls for Volume, tone and reverb. The reverb control creates full, wet reverb for moody "late-night" vibe and approximates the sound of playing in a tunnel, and the single-button "wedge" footswitch is used for selecting "vaporizer mode, which bypasses volume and tone controls for full-strength overload.

  • Power: 12W tube

  • Two inputs ” 1/4", Normal and Bright
  • Internal speaker disconnects to allow the amp's 1/4" output to be used with external 8Î speaker enclosures
  • Controls: Volume, Tone and Reverb
  • Tubes: two x 12AX7; two x 6BQ5/EL84
  • Single-Button "Wedge" footswitch included
  • Weight: 37 lb (16.78 kg)

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I bought the Vaporizer because of the looks and the reverb. Well, looks is all there is to this amp. The reverb is useless. Basically, to use the reverb you have to turn it all the way up; but there is no way to adjust the intensity, so you sound like you are way back in a cave being muffled. The Vaporizer pedal is about the only good sound out of this amp, the clean sound is terrible. For the price they charge for the Vaporizer you can add $20 and buy a Pro Junior and there is no comparison between the two. The Pro Junior is a Professional Players amp and can be used on stage or for recording, the Vaporizer is a novelty. I own 2 Pro Juniors and they smoke the Vaporizer any day. Best thing about the Vaporizer was Guitar Centers easy Return Policy. Thanks GC. I own numerous Fender amps from Champion 600's to Super Reverb's, as well as many other manufacturers amps.

5 star+ with tubes, 5 star *** with speakers

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Got mine for 229 plus tax and free shipping = $250. You can't get a decent tube amp from anyone for $250. Youd pay that much just for the cool cabinet! From the factory it is exactly what you would think, I cool looking, rocket red is a must for a Vaporizer! The tone is a bit warm, not exactly dark, tone knob at 3 is an improvement. Still way worth the money. As I am suffering from the disease I happen to have a few tubes and speakers laying around. After popping in Mullards all the way around, re-issue of course, not expensive, and dropping in an 85th anniv 10" V30 and 10" GB it sounds AWESOME. Yes it breaks up around noon but with incredible tone, sustain, very very articulate, notes seem to blossom from the amp. And it LOVES pedals, I would say it absorbs them, almost like they are just another channel. Hard to explain if you haven't fiddled around with a bunch of different amps and pedals. There is no alteration of the tone other than the effect if that makes sense. All totaled up if you were to buy it for 229 plus parts you'd probably be around 400-450, still well worth price for an amp that sounds awesome and looks uber cool. Even at $350 it's worth it.

Maybe the best amp I have ever played through?

By Mark

from Richland, WA

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

This amp is nothing short of Dreamy! It reminds me of what Jimmy Page recorded with back in the day! My only gripe is that it's not louder. It's got any and every tone you could want from the 60's, 70's and 80's. I have many amps, from modified Marshalls to Boutique Custom builds. This Fender is the Creme de la creme!~ It so Groovy I ordered 3 more! You simply cannot go wrong with this amp! Not sure about playing live but for a recording amp.... Perfect!

HISSS

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

cool looking amp. to get any sound out of it the volume needs to be turned way up. Too loud for in the house. Hit the vaporizer switch and you get a loud hiss , very loud , crazy loud. The reverb is non existent except when the volume is off and the reverb is on all the way but then you don't have much volume. I liked the amp from a visual standpoint if fender made it more useable I would buy another one. But as is it's just a novelty.

Nice Amp - Even Better With Minor Changes

By STEPHEN

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I have had this amp for a week and am really enjoying it. It does break up early with the stock tubes, which are perfectly fine. Clean tones can be had at lower house volumes, not so much with drummer. I swapped the EL84s form some Sovteks and put in a JJ 83S and Fender branded Sovtek. This actually brought the volume down compared to the stock tubes and might have bumped the clean headroom a tiny bit compared to the Ruby tubes. I have seen quite a few videos of live performances with this amp. If that is your intention then a pair of efficient speakers will increase the clean headroom and volume a significant amount. A lot has been said of the reverb being noisy or not loud enough with the volume cranked. I will agree that it is subtle with the volume up, but it sounds nice. I like it either halfway up or dimed. You can also run the amp with the volume off to hear just the reverb...a very cool effect, although quiet. It has a bit of noise, but most reverbs do and once you are paying you can't hear it. So not an issue in my opinion. I am playing a Telecaster type guitar with Fender OV pickups. I like to run the amp through the bright input with the tone knob about halfway up. Overall this is a great amp stock. You can mod it to meet your clean volume needs (speakers will make the most impact), but it is awesome as is. The speakers in this amp sound nicer than a lot of other cheaper amps I have purchased. I saw someone put chrome/steel corner protectors on theirs and it looked sharp. I might do the same to keep the corners from wearing.

Needs More Knobs

By Shane

from Haverhill, Massachusetts

Comments about Fender Vaporizer 12W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I wanted to like this amp, I really did. Here's what I didn't like: -The reverb sounded dry, if you can believe it. - There wasn't really a "clean" tone. If you wanted this amp to be clean, the volume would have to be just after zero. - Too bright. Even on the normal input. - The tone was either too muddy, or too bright. It was pretty hard to find a decent setting. - I would have liked to adjust bass, mids, and the treble. If I could have done that, I wouldn't be returning the amp. There isn't much to outweigh the negative stuff, but here's what I liked: - The looks. I mean come, on. No matter who you are, or what you play, it's a pretty groovy lookin' amp. - Vaporizer mode. I like to play loud and the Vaporizer mode gets the job done. It's an amp that gets the job done I guess, and if you're the type of player that goes for looks, go for it. Everyone else, ALWAYS TRY BEFORE YOU BUY.
