I have owned this guitar for a total of 2 hours now, but take it from a guy who has owned several strats, this one is a keeper! I previously had a '79 (horrible neck), a MIJ '69 reissue (amazing but had to sell for $), and most recently a Deluxe Roadhouse. In a year with the Roadhouse, I never felt at home with it. I liked the sound of the Texas Specials but it didn't feel right and for those strat owners out there, you know how different each one is. Which is why I was always hesitant to buy without playing first. I took a chance and it has paid off. So, first off, it is set up brilliantly out of the box. I plugged in and played. No fret buzz. Action set perfectly. The neck is like butter. Not thick gloss but nice and smooth. I like the string trees. The look is amazing! This new honeyburst color (new for this model anyway) is gorgeous. So you know, it is hand stained. Not high gloss but more of a natural thin coating which enhanced the natural wood grain beautifully. It looks amazing - almost an old, vintage look to it. And of course, it has the most sexy 70's headstock to complement the body. I knew the second I held it in my hands - this strat is a winner in every way!

Got one last Saturday. The store was noisy so I took it home to check it out. Good thing GC has a 30 day return policy. This particular Strat was obviously never touched at the factory as far as setup. I had to move the bridge saddles about a quarter inch to get the intonation set. It was so bad that if you tuned the strings open, playing any chord in the first position resulted in anything but a chord. That was the easy part. The EADG strings had fret buzz all the way up the neck. Yeah I adjusted the truss rod. Fender spec is .010. I went to .012...buzzz. The string height was above Fender spec. Took it to the tech Fender recommended and he couldn't find any high frets and said he didn't think he could do anything for it. Fender customer relations rep. Jordan was great and after seeing a vid of the fret said to,"absolutely send it back and get another one!" If it hadn't been for him, I would have just returned it and gotten a refund and looked at Carvin. Kudos to you Jordan! It shipped today and we shall see if the new one plays without fret buzz. One more thing: To anyone who actually thinks fret buzz in any form is acceptable...you're wrong, plain and simple. So what if it is small enough to not be heard through an amp (mine was loud enough btw), it kills sustain and tone. If you dont care about that then just get yourself a Strat copy made out of plywood! I really love the way this guitar looks and I'm hoping the new one is flawless and turns out to be the fabled, "Best Strat ever" that some people are lucky enough to find. If it is I will give it a new review.

UPDATE!!

By NATE BAUER

from Mobridge, SD

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I wrote a previous review but have now had the chance to use this guitar for a couple of gigs. I use this strat for mostly blues/blues rock (SRV, Delbert McClinton, Steve Miller) but also move to the bridge or bridge/middle for a couple of twangy country songs. My original opinion has only improved. I did change strings to 10's, and as with any tremolo guitar, you must adjust spring tension when changing from the 9's that were on it. Easy adjustment and didn't require additional springs. For 11's it might. Comparing to my previous strat, Deluxe Roadhouse (also with Texas Specials) this guitar cannot be beat. The feel of the smooth satin neck is so much more comfortable and it is, I believe, slightly wider than the traditional Fender neck which, for me, makes it much more playable. I realize that the pickups are the same as my other strat but the tone from this thing is much more strat like. Chiming. Ringing. No dead spots. Maybe attributed to better quality woods, frets, tuners, saddles, bridge, etc.?? Maybe just good ole' American manufacturing! I don't know but this strat is heads and tails above any other strat I have owned. I'm not sure why the price is less than most other American models. I would snatch one up now while that price stays low!

Gibson guy's first Fender

By Tom B

from Cheyenne Wy

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I haven't played a Fender for a long time. I picked one up at a store, played a little and didn't like the way neck felt. I went home with an Ibanez that day. As the years passed and my collection grew I had Gibson, Epiphone, Ibanez, and even a vintage Kalamazoo (made by Gibson in the 60's), but not a Fender in sight. For some reason I was stuck on the first one I played. I saw this Strat in the President's Day ad. I was shocked at the price for a made in USA Fender. I walked into G.C. to check it out, not expecting to take one home. This one stuck out first because of the beautiful hand stained finish. I love the deep gloss Fender puts on most of their Strats but this one called to me. So I picked it up and was surprised at the solid feel of it. Sat down and plugged it in and was surprised again. It played like a dream. The sound from the 3 single coils blew me away. It's my first and only guitar with a 5 way switch and every position puts out a distinct Fender sound. Now that I've rambled on... If you are thinking about getting this guitar, stop thinking, go play one. I think this guitar could be priced higher easily. But it's not. At this price you can not go wrong. I'm very happy to add this Strat to my herd. Peace

Great US quality for less.

By Maxwell Trdina

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is much better than I had expected. This is my first upgrade from a Squire Strat, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I'll start from the top of the guitar down. The headstock is 70's style, a great aesthetic plus.I'm not sure the name of the tuners, but they're the same as an American Standard, and hold tune pretty well. Bending causes some issues with the B and G strings, but I don't lay on the tremolo so I can get over it. The string trees are nice, and while they appear to be rolling, they aren't. they're still pretty good. The nut is just regular synthetic bone and didn't need any adjusting. The neck is amazing, but requires some neck gloss to really make it fast. The body is hand stained and absolutely beautiful. The pickups are pretty hot. I mostly only use the neck pickup, but I ran through them all and they sound great. Like most american fenders, The saddles are bent steel and the tremolo hole is tapped at an angle, presumably for better bending. Be warned though, If you plan on using any strings heavier than 9s you're going to have to do some serious bridge adjustment. I would recommend adding two more springs to the block if you plan on using anything higher than 11s. The guitar is lighter than I imagined, but it sounds great so I'm not complaining. All in all a great guitar that I would recommend to anyone looking for a great US guitar.

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Just took it out of the box. Hooked it up to my amp.. Tuned it and started jamming. Unbelievable... I love it. Best investment I've ever made on a guitar. Get one now.. You don't wanna miss out on this deal here. Practically half price for an American made Strat. Got it an hour ago and just sat down from playing it to write this. This a dream come true for blues players like myself with the Texas coils and the Jumbo frets. Bravo to Fender for putting this guitar together like this.

Maple Honey Low Money

By Eric Linton

from Corpus Christi, Texas

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

While I hesitate to review this fine American Made Stratocaster (clearly unqualified)my 1st electric guitar, it is easy on the eyes and ears. It is a great color special from GC, thanks. Mine came unexpectedly w/ standard single coil pickups instead of the Texas Specials. I had to float the bridge after changing strings to 10-46's about 3/16" w/o adding a 4/5th tremolo spring. Any more float and the tremolo bar would hit the cable where it enters the body. Its intonation is still pretty easy to adjust and holds tune relatively well. Out of the box setup was excellent, plug and play ready. The price is just right for a beginner like me. Now all I need to do is learn to play.

A killer strat with mojo.

By jake merritt

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I teach and play guitar for a living and have been playing an American Deluxe Start for a couple of years that cost me $1,600.00. I know that this guitar is only $800 but I feel like it is a better sounding, better playing, and better looking guitar than my deluxe ever was. I say "was" because I sold my deluxe strat after buying this one. It has a comfortable neck, a killer bell tone in the neck, and a nasty, scratchy Fender quack in the bridge. The satin finish on this guitar looks awesome, I actually prefer it over the glossy finishes on most strats. As soon as I sat down to play it I fell in love, it was like I was 12 years old again buying my first guitar.

Lovin' it!

By Michael Blaise

from Ventura, California

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I walked into Guitar Center not planning to buy another guitar. I'm already a Fender kinda guy, owning a John 5 Telecaster and a Jaguar. The first moment I saw this guitar I had to touch it. Once I touched it and played it, I had to have it. To say that it's a strikingly beautiful guitar is an understatement. It glistens under the lights. Beyond that, the neck is silky smooth and the pickups scream when needed. I's an absolute pleasure playing this guitar. It stays in tune too, which has always been a problem with some other guitars with whammy bars that I've had. With some guitars, the honeymoon period dies down after a few weeks. With this guitar, I love it more with each passing day. This one's a keeper and one I'm sure will stay in my collection for a long, long time. I just know it's going to age like a great wine.

UPDATE: Great US Quality for Less

By Michele Trdina

from Frederick MD

Comments about Fender USA Nitro Satin Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is still a fantastic deal, but there are some nuances of this guitar that are notable. From the neck down, I upgraded the tuners to Schaller Locking Tuners for ease of string changes, tuning stability is already good as it is with some adjustment. However, one annoying thing about the neck of this guitar is that unlike many other maple neck Fenders, this one's nut is finished into the neck, and would require me to cut into the finish with an exacto knife to remove it. This is not a problem for me however because with some 600 grit sandpaper and some Nut Sauce, this guitar will accept any string gauge without pinching. The big frets were a bit for me to get used to, but I can still maintain a decent action with them so not a big worry. The body of this guitar is absolutely stunning for this price, with good grain matching on the pieces (mine happens to be 3 piece), but the finish on it is the thinnest I have ever seen. the back of my guitar looks like a war zone, and the front is starting to collect nicks of its own. My guitar looks like it was used and abused for 5 years despite being only six months old. Something I haven't seen on any other guitar I've had. Of course I probably won't replace the body (maybe go a little hard on it and give it a Stevie Ray Vaughan "Lenny" look). The strap buttons I also replaced with some Schaller Strap Locks, just because my strap was getting worn out. Other than that this guitar is absolutely great and a wonderful ticket into an american made Stratocaster.
