Had my eye on this P-bass for a while.Played it 3 or 4 times at G Cs in my area and fell in love.Wanted it for a birthday/Christmas present and got an amazing deal from G C around the holidays.Got it,and it's great;everything I expected from a P-Bass and more.Perfect out of the box;setup and playability was great, and Fender is to be commended for providing a fine instruction booklet(a nice change)a truss bar wrench and a top-notch bag.All in all,a perfect buy for anyone wanting a fine American P-Bass you can afford.
Wanting to find a good P Bass to gig with so I wouldn't have to take my '68 out anymore, I scoured all reviews of U.S. made Ps I could find. Not wanting to break the bank I kept coming back to this particular model due to its specs, looks, and excellent reviews, not to mention a very reasonable price for an American made Fender. It really is a very beautiful piece of equipment. The finish is gorgeous and the neck is highly playable. It has everything I wanted in a new P Bass.... Maple neck, Grease Bucket Tone Control, Great Playability, Beauty, and U.S. made. It is also fairly light, much lighter than my Jazz Bass. As some other reviewers noted, I did lower the string action five to six turns on each string, making it much more comfortable to play without changing the intonation or creating any buzz. This bass creates a very solid note, as you would hope for from a good P Bass. I don't think I could be much happier about a bass. I got everything I wanted: Great tone, Great playability, Beauty, and more, for a very reasonable price. You could spend more for a good P Bass, but I don't think you have to. Thanks guys at Lancaster G. C. once again.
This P bass was (no doubt about it) the best possible purchase that I could have made within this price range. It plays as smooth as butter, the natural finish is beautiful, and because of it, the bass really stands out on stage, home gigs and even inside the stores (when I was buying my amp - a MiniMark 802 - can't go wrong with this one either). The slim C shape neck is ideal for players who are not used to bass necks, making this bass easy for beginners or people who already play the guitar and are willing to try the bass guitar as a new instrument for the first time. The quality of the bass is reliable as hell, giving the player the true Fender Feelling that only the american ones can provide. Bottom Line: Can't go wrong with this one. It is a beautiful, American Special bass with a finish as sweet as honey. If you are willing to spend this amount of money, try this one out or buy it without trying before, just like I did, and you WON'T REGRET IT. Plus: investing 200 or 300 bucks more is worthy.
This bass plays and sounds amazing. I bought one and it's just as good as any American bass I played. The only thing is the satin finish. It can easily ding or scratch from using your guitar pick or bumping into something. I'm not a fan of the "road worn" finish, so it ended up being a turn off for me. If you're into that, then this could be the perfect bass for the price.
If Fender's American Standard models weren't sealed in 1/4" of clear glossy polyawfulness I wouldn't be writing this review. The thin lacquer finish is what first attracted me to this beauty. I also have a couple of Highway One basses and a couple of other brands, but the sound and feel of this bass is superior to any other that I own. I strung it with Fender 9050ML flatwound strings & my tech got the action insanely low and it flat out rocks. The maple fretboard has a bit more zing than the rosewood on my Hwy 1 Pbass, and the pickup is louder and has a very nice full-range sound. Extremely happy with my purchase. A tortoise pickguard was the finishing touch.
This bass already looks like it has that vintage patina to it and with the hand stained finish and thin satin nitro on it, it will age superbly ;-) It was light as a feather, barely over 8lbs, actually a little neck dive going on. It plays fast and smooth, and sounds like a PBass should, however...I did pull off the standard bridge as the saddles moved around a lot on me and that messes with spacing, intonation, tuning, etc...you know what I mean if you have this bridge, no saddle grooves so they move, it was a great design in 1951 when it was invented but it has its issues...I put on a Hipshot A Style BRASS bridge on her and the difference was seismic! The brass emphasizes the bottom end and the weight cured the neck dive, it is now this instrument it should be. This one is a 9.9 out of 10.
If you find one of these in a store, try it out. I know there is a lot of personal preference on neck size/shape, but this felt and played great.
I'm always looking for the best sound I can afford. My regular kit has either been a MIM Jazz bass or a hand-made custom. I picked up this P-bass because it sounded GOOD in the store, and the setup was close to what I like (unusual for a new bass or guitar). I have been using it exclusively ever since. It has a big, solid tone without being annoyingly bright or scooped, perfect for holding down the pocket in my dance band. It's also light and plays like butter! I may just sell all the rest!
I don't usually buy an instrment site unseen, but the deal was good enough to risk it. I am glad I did. After a little set up this bass is great. Very acurate intonation. Very playable neck. I really like its unique finish. It turns out after playing dozens of P basses that this one is the best of the bunch.
this is my first P Bass and let me say i think its great, everyone think its gorgeous and is quickly becoming more popular now that the price has been lowered even more. its light and very resonant, probably due to the ticker headstock. you'll be a fool not to buy one of these...five stars!
