My Dream Guitar! Easiest to play, sounds wonderful. and very reasonable price! I walked into Guitar Center with NO intention of buying; just checking out the inventory. The week before I was seriously considering a smaller Taylor, but their $1,500 plus prices held me back. The playability and sound weren't THAT impressive. I walk into the Guitar Center Acoustic Room and I just seemed to be DRAWN to THIS Guitar. So, I picked it up and started playing like I've owned this for years! My wife was stunned and said "Yes, you HAVE to buy this"! This is the BEST Guitar i've ever played! So effortless, so beautiful! The room fills right up with the unmistakable presence of the music I make and it is sweet! I own a Morgan Monroe M50 Full Size Dreadnought that's nice too, but it isn't My Favorite. This Hellcat is MINE. So very glad I finally found the one! Thank you Fender! I was a little apprehensive about even looking at a Fender Acoustic, and I thought I'd ONLY want an "All Solid" Guitar, but after playing THIS I have to say, my opinion of Fender and their Acoustics changed. Not too crazy about the "Hellcat symbols and Skulls" but in reality, who cares? I am in LOVE with this guitar!

Bottom line up front: Overall, it's a good guitar for the money. For the typical person who wants to play for the fun of it, it's a good choice. Nice sound with the flexibility of an acoustic or electric option, and not a lot of cash required. The strengths include... Its size - not as big as a dreadnought, and still able to put out a pretty good classical guitar sound. The electric pickup is a flexible and nice to have add on. The onboard tuner is very convenient. For electrical guitar style players, the narrow neck may be just your thing. The Hellcat inlay work is nicely done. Weaknesses include... The high action - if you keep this for any length of time, you will almost certainly lower the bridge by filing down the saddle, and slotting the wire notches in the nut a little deeper. Both are easy enough to do yourself if you understand how and are careful. Hammer-ons are pretty quiet when played in acoustic mode. While this may not be true for everyone, the narrow neck is problematic for me. My fingers are too wide for some chords on the first three frets. B7 is a real bear for me on this guitar! I solve this with an easy workaround - capo between 3rd and 5th!

really impressed!!!

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I mainly play electric guitar, and have been interested in getting an acoustic guitar. Rancid has been a huge influence to me ever since "let's go." At first i was a little apprehensive about purchasing it.. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I'm really glad i picked it up, it's made very well, and sounds great. For the money you can't beat it.

Old Friend

By Steve Reelgood

from las vegas, nv

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a self-taught punk rocker (Joe Strummer was my guitar-hero) and have always owned and played electrics (82' black & gold tele; les paul std; fender p-bass). This is my first acoustic and I couldn't be happier. The Hellcat plays and sounds awesome. The guitar is well constructed, holds itۡs tuning and best of all, required little set-up from my guitar tech. The accents are pretty cool too w/ the "Hellcat" logo in lieu of the dots. Personally, I don't think you can beat the quality for the price. The Hellcat is quickly becoming my "Old Friend" and of course there's nothing quite like playing your punk favorites on an acoustic... 5 Stars baby - yeah!

Great little guitar

By ChrisC

from Bethany, Ok

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a smaller sized guitar with a good sound. Something like a Martin 000-15, but more affordable. I happened upon this in my local GC and it is just what I was looking for. Sounds great, much louder than you would expect. Great low end too. Finish work is very good, looks like a much more expensive guitar. Some people have mixed feelings about the inlays, I like them. Finding a case may be tough. The guy at GC looked through everything they had, we found that the TKL A4363 is a very good fit.

Side Kick

By Sean

from Bristol, CT

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing. I've been a Rancid fan since I was only a couple years old and they have since become my favorite band. This guitar is incredibly well built, and I know it'll be my "Side Kick" for as long as I'm playing. I'm in a Punk band that plays a lot of ska as well and this thing is perfect. The chromatic tuner is really helpful when going into drop tunings (Down a half step...) and the 3-band eq makes it sound great through an amp. The all-mahogany body makes it sound amazing by itself. The inlay designs are awesome and surprisingly detailed. 5 Stars! It deserves every one of them

and out come the wolves

By cassie

from killeen, tx

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

this guitar was a gift for someone important to me who loves music. his hand was injured and he's pretty bummed that he can't play like he wants to. so i wanted to get him a new guitar. he deserves it. initially i was going to spend a whole lot more on a gretsch, but he's a die hard rancid fan and he fell in love with this guitar so we got it instead. and it was well worth the price and then some. it's amazing that these are being sold for such a low price. i would have willingly paid more if it was listed with a higher price.

Honestly, I Love It

By BenJamin

from Poway, CA

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar on my 18th birthday, When i finally got it home i felt like a little kid again. I play Ska and Punk at clubs around San Diego but at home i'll go from Rancid to Hank Williams to The Slackers to Billy Bragg and everywhere in the between. This guitar can do it all. The only real problem is that the guitar is a little trebbley so i can't hear the high e and b strings ring when i play certain chords. But i love this guitar and i think it is worth the money, it's solid, it rings like a church bell and it can take a beating.

excellent axe!

By Doug Dole

from Alexandria, IN

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For an cheap acoustic electric this one is great! I've been looking for a non-cutaway acoustic electric for some time and they are hard to find especially in this price range! The pickup is good and the tuner is nice to have on board! I had to file down the nut and bridge a bit to get the action I wanted but I'm still very happy with it. The hellcats are cool if you're into that but they are a nice addition and a conversation starter if anything. It's better than just having plain ole' dot inlays I suppose. The wood on the entire guitar is beautiful and it's a pleasure to play all the time. I have zero complaints and nothing but praise for this axe! Great job Fender! DD

Hellcat = good Service = BAD

By DJ

from Marietta SC

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Ordered used Hellcat and shipped it to my house. Pick guard was loose, someone had tried to glue it back on (badly). Guard was still pulling away from the body and glue had oozed out on both sides of the pick guard. Did not expect perfect guitar. DID expect a presentable guitar. Returned to store, had to eat the shipping cost. Like the Hellcat. Service not so much. Won't buy from them again. Beware of used gear from GC.

Great Acoustic !

By Doug Dole

from Alexandria, IN

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been looking for a non-cutaway acoustic electric for a while now especially in this price point. This one just did the trick. There was a little bit of set up like filing the nut and the saddle down but after that it plays just like butter! I also changed out the strings which the guitar comes with 12's but my favorite acoustic strings are Martin custom lights (11 - 52). The sound is not all that thick which is mostly due to the concert style body and it is not as full as a large dreadnought but it is a great nock about guitar and it's great for stage too with the onboard electronics. It is nice and light weight for hours of playing. Great guitar for writing tunes. It is a beautiful guitar as well. The cosmetics are a big plus and it looks way more exspensive than it really is. So far I'm really happy with the guitar. I've never bought a Fender acoustic, in fact I'm not a fan of their acoustic guitars typicaly. However, I love teles and strats. Hopefully it will last for years of playing!

It's the guitar I am most apt to pickup

By Timothy Mallon

from Grayslake, Illinois

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My title says it all in my humble opinion. This has become the guitar I am most likely to pick up and play, noodle or practice. My Taylor sits all the time now. My electrics are also getting a lot less time. I started with Electrics. I always wanted an acoustic that played, fit and felt like my electrics. Well, that is nigh on impossible. However, this Hellcat comes as close as you can ask for. I also wanted a smaller body. For practice, I don't really need the volume of a big dreadnaught. Of all the other Acoustics I tried of similar size, The Hellcat just sounded best. It's a balanced tone, not too bright, not too boomy, scooped, etc. The neck is one of more comfortable I've found. reminds me of my Taylor, as well as my Les Pauls. Satin finish is very fast to play. Also has a nice radius that I like. Body fits and feels nice. Really comfortable to play. Love the Mahogany grain all the way around. The guitar is really beautiful look to it. I could do with, or without the hellcat and skull. But, they do set it apart. The Fishman electronics were MADE for this guitar. They sound great together. Ran through my Zoom A3, the Hellcat sounds glorious. The Hellcat, fits well, plays extremely well, is comfortable, and sounds good. I'm giving it a 5, because at this price, it rates a 5. If it were $100-200 more, then a 4.

I really like this guitar. I brought it to the University of Houston's Moore Music Building and several of the students played the guitar and they absolutely loved it.

It's becoming my guitar of choice pretty quickly due to its great sound and size. I'm 5'7" and a big guitar can make me look like I'm a child. This guitar is smaller and is a blast to play.

I also purchased the HS case to keep it protected. This guitar will be in my collection for a long time and I would highly recommend that you pick one up and play it the next time that you're in a GC.

I had played just about every guitar I could possibly afford at the local guitar center when I stumbled across this gem. I picked it up and it sounded incredible. It has a great warm sound that fills the room and sounds great for many kinds of music. The only problem I have had is that the action came a little high but that is fixable so I am not even going to mark it down for that. For the price it is an incredible guitar.

I've been a fan of Tim Armstrong since the early 90s' along with other great punk bands from the East Bay. This guitar also had alot of good reviews as far as sound went as well. it's easy to play since the strings are closer to the frets, clean awesome sound, and its a wicked looking signature series of one of my musical influences.

        Thumbs up on this axe

        By Christopher Wells

        from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Tim Armstrong Hellcat Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Far from an expert on acoustics but generally am a fan of Fenders. This one is made in China, by the way. Regardless, the quality is decent. I mainly went by looks because no stores near me carried this guitar. I liked the skulls and hellcats and the dark finish. Also, I figured it would sound good because it had a solid top. It sounds good to me and plays well. The action seems a bit high but I don't know how it compares to other acoustics. I am used to playing a stratocaster. It has a high quality pickup and sounds great plugged in even though I was mainly looking for a guitar I could just grab off the wall and play some fresh jams. It fits the bill for a general acoustic, looks cool, and on top of it all is reasonably priced.
