Overview

For all the lovers of that notorious Fender tube-driven sound, the company rolls out the Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 tube combo, pushing your guitar tone into meaty guitar-shred heaven.

The Fender Super-Sonic 22 amp offers 22 watts of guitar power, for punishing distorted sound with more dedicated tone and bass frequency. With two channels and a handful of stellar tubes, your guitar tone will instantly be taken to new heights of sound barrier-shaking guitar tone.

The Fender Super-Sonic 22 delivers this versatility with the organic feel and moderate output power of the legendary Deluxe Reverb amp, perfect for most stage and studio applications. The Vintage channel on the tube amp delivers pure, unmistakable Fender tone, and the awesome Burn channel ignites musical inspiration with overdrive flavors ranging from bluesy to flame-throwing. And while the Fender Super-Sonic 22 is capable of heavily saturated tube distortion and sustain, it never masks the tonal character of your guitar. Offered in classic Black/Silver or iconic 1961 Blonde/Oxblood cosmetic treatment; both Fender amp versions include ivory "radio" knobs and flowing 1960s script logo.

It sounds like you might have a problem with that particular unit. I got my Super Sonic 22 two days ago and it sounds great. I have played every current production Fender tube amp except the Vibro King, Vibroverb and the new Super Sonic 60 and would say if youۡre comparing amps without any modifications just taking it out of the box and turning it on this is the best amp fender makes. This is a killer amp with a lot of personality. Advertising says itۡs sort of a combination of the older super sonic and a deluxe reverb, sort of ironic that I would buy it as these are two fender amps that I always felt were some of the biggest disappointments from Fender. What surprised me is that it sounds way better than a DDRI reissue. Compared to the DRRI the Super Sonic 22 sounds bigger and richer sounding, has more chime, more punch and is louder (sounds about as loud as my 40 watt 68 Vibrolux). The fat switch replaces the Vibrolux/Bassman switch of the older supersonics. The strange thing is toggling the fat switch on and off actually gives you a really good vintage Vibrolux or Bassman sound, way better than the old supersonics were supposed to do. I stick mostly with the clean channel as you can get a good edgy growl by turning it up or hitting the fat switch if you want. I didnۡt spend as much time with the burn channel as I never liked the sound of multiple stages of gain as much, but I could tell you get some really good sounds off of that as well if that is more your style. Works equally well on my Telecaster as well as my Les Paul Junior. Compared to most other Fender amps the EQ controls are much more sensitive so little adjustments make a big difference. Because of this you will probably spend more time initially to find just the right settings. Iۡve never really been a big fan of Eminence speakers they always seemed a little too airy for me but this one even without any break in sounds exceptionally full and rich. Gives you a really nice warm 3-D sound.

I will make this short and sweet. The supersonic 22 is a great sounding amp, if you are looking for clean tones and a great tube breakup. Unfortunately the quality is subpar. I own cheap amps that are more reliable. The footswitch lasted about 6 months and after a year the amp started cutting in and out until it was unplayable. I would be very cautious if you are planning on purchasing this amp.

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Love this amp! It's fourty pounds. A little heavy but manageable. Fits nicely in the back of my car. It's all tubes so the sound is warm and powerful. The switchable channels are awesome! No need for pedals but you can add them if you choose. Comes with a nice footswitch and cover to keep the amp nice. Joe and Rebecca were great at The Guitar Center in Mays Landing in NJ. Would highly recommend.

Lets just say I've been around the block on the equipment side of things my ultimate set up ToneWise PRS custom 22 With a Mesa Boogie SOlO 50 halfstack. The recordings are Imaculate. I am a tube amp Pureist.
I was playing recently through aBugera V22 combo with 12" woofer decided to upgrade ,
after hearing a 68 Deluxe Reverb also 22 watts. I Love my gain and Have always had humbuckers in the bridge position after careful considieration and hours of Audio Internet research (drove my wife crazy). I decided on the Supersonic 22 watt combo. It makes my MIM Strat sound amazing .Played at a small club the other nite The sound was incredible at 3 on the volume . The gain channel is amazing I can get rid 2 pedals in my pedal train because there is plenty of the best overdrive and distortion Ive heard. The clean channel is very warm fender sound and works great with pedals. The reverb is definetley not as lush as i like But ok. I . If it had a master volume I would give it 5 stars . Thats how we get tube distortion and when playing live you dont have to adjust both volume knobs.

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

In my 40 years of being a Pro, this is one of the best all around amps that Fender makes. It is extremely well built, has exceptional sound, and is very versatile. It is also very portable, weighing in at 40lbs. The 1st channel has super clean sound, and the 2nd channel with two separate gain controls, allows you to set your distortion from mild, to wild!
With 22 all tube watts, it has more than enough power for most gigs, and for larger gigs just mike it, and it will sound Great! The reverb sounds fantastic, and the effects loop comes in really handy, since it is foot switch controllable. The blonde and oxblood finish is stunning, and looks great on any stage.

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been gigging this amp for about 4 years now and still love it. With other amps by this time I'm back at the store trying out new amps. But not with this one. It just sounds great all of the time, and I am able to dial up the sound I want whether I use a Strat, a Les Paul, an Ibanez, or one of my full bodied jazz guitars. Everything from Fender super clean to shred, all the while keeping your guitar tone; No other amp I own can do that for me. I have a JCM800 Marshall half stack and a Soldano HRO-100, both of which I will never part with because they are exquisite, and this Fender amp is in the same favor - I will never part with it.
For you blues players the amp has a "FAT" switch on the CLEAN channel, making a Strat or Tele sound big. You also do not need a compressor on the front end like many other amps. Just plug in and play. However, if you like to run through an array of pedals the amp takes them very well. Old vintage Fenders, and even some of the new reissue amps, get buzzy with an overdrive pedal but this amp keeps it's natural tone. I run my pedals through the effects loop, and they stay pure and clean. But a nice feature of the amp is that using the foot switch you can turn the effects loop on/off. So when you need pure tone you can get it instantly. This feature is great for grunge or shredders because the distortion can be clear and punchy when you need it for tight rhythms, and effected when you need to play soaring solos or want the color.
And this amp, at only 22 Watts, is loud. Most gigs I never get past 4 on the volume. But if you are trying to compete with a mondo watt PA system at a large club you'll need to mic it. Which I do for large gigs. I put a little in my in-ears and play away, knowing my tone is great. And all guitar players know it's all about the tone.

I recommend buy it. It just doesn't get better than this.

GC stores in my state don't stock this amp, so I had to commit financially to get my hands on it. I was hesitant to commit, but am very glad I did. The tones out of this amp are as great as any of the demo videos. It's the amp to beat for country, blues, indie rock and anything in between. Not 100% sure about its high gain potential, but the clean channel is amazing - and isn't that what pedals are for? I highly recommend it.

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I think the amplifier was amazing. The sounds you get out of it are outstanding. Great cleans and overdrive. Works well with pedals. It did notice that it did'nt handle my boss metal core ml-2 as good as I would have wanted. Maybe I should have lowered the level on the pedal, although it was a little over a quarter high.

The reason I was dissapointed with this product is because of a hiss noise. At first I thought it was a bad guitar cable. I connected other guitar cables to it and no change. I even disconnected the guitar cable and still the same hiss sound. I really did like the amp and did not want to return it. What made me change my mind was that when I do home recording and had to stop playing guitar, the hiss sound would definately be part of the recording, so I would have to do as many editing to the recording as I would need to. I didn't want to create more work for me so I decided to return the amp. I thougtht of ordering another one, but I didn't have that confidence that it would be any better since I have a friend who has the same amp and with the same problem. He can live with the hiss sound, but I can't. For the money paid, I better get no hiss sound. I returned it and got me the Fender Hotrod Deluxe. I haven't taken it out of the box yet, so I am hoping my trade was worth it. If it wasn't for the hiss sound, I would have very likeIy kept the amp. I hope this review helps.

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I can honestly say that this is fast becoming my favorite Fender tube amp!! I prefer the clean channel with a touch of Pork Loin and Vintage Tubescreamer for the little bit of break up I like (all dials at or below 12 o'clock) at lower levels and the sound with humbuckers, single coils and especially P90s is mind blowing!! I get warm, rich, creamy tones and plenty of bite playing classic rock and blues. The dirty channel is good if you need to travel and/or have no pedals, but the clean channel with pedals is better in my opinion and the clean channel is vintage fender magic that will not disappoint. At 22w you can play a lot of smaller type venues and mic it as needed for larger venues. It's also not to heavy when it's time to move it around for gigs (my 59 Bassman LTD, now that is heavy but it also sounds amazing). This amp is pricey, but you get what you pay for and this could be the one and only amp you ever need!! Get one if you can and you will not be disappointed, Good luck and keep on making music!!

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I forgot to add one more thing to my review. This amp produces a very transparent overdrive. It's like a tubescreamer in that way. Even at high gain, you can still tell you are playing a Stratocaster. With a Gibson, you can get some great scooped metal tones. This is not a Marshall. You can dial in more midrange but the sound is still different. To me, the high gain sound is more Mesa Boogie than Marshall. And, again, it's built much better than the Marshall tube combos. Also, it has real spring reverb (the new Marshalls have a cheap digital effect).

Comments about Fender Super-Sonic 22 22W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I think the super sonic amplifiers are Fender's most versatile amplifiers, and I'm disappointed that they discontinued the 60 watt and 100 watt versions. If Stevie Ray Vaughan were alive today, I think he'd be interested in these amps. The clean channel is classic Blackface clean with a boost channel that puts you in Bassman territory. The overdrive channel does everything from vintage crunch to searing lead tones. Plus the amp is better made than any high gain combo I know of. Among other things, the tube sockets are mounted to the chassis, not the pcb board, so you can change tubes without worrying about cracking the board and killing the amp (been there, did that with a Marshall 40 watt combo). The amp sounds great out of the box but you can get even better tones if you experiment a little. For American tones with a strat, I like Tung Sol tubes and the Eminence Cannibus Rex. For a more heavy metal vibe with a Gibson, I prefer JJ tubes with a Patriot Private Jack speaker. Both those set ups sound incredible. Boutique tone for an affordable price. You can't go wrong with this amp!!!
