This amp is just awesome. it is a tube amp with effects. you are crazy if you think it won't handle a band on stage, but it is great for in your room or garage. It has two channels, one that is clean w/ effects(reverb, chorus, delay, etc), and one with amp simulators( blackface, bassman, acoustasonic, metalhead) and effects, and the best part, its a tube amp. It has amazing tone, you can get pretty much any tone you want out of it. You can go from clean acoustic sound to heavy metal by turning the amp setting, then add some reverb or delay, whatever you want, its there. Its definately worth the money!!

I got this amp for Christmas last year. For the first month of ownership, I was totally in love. The clean channel on this amp sounds fantastic. It sparkles at lover volumes and gives you a nice bluesy breakup at higher volumes, all without making your ears bleed. The voicing channel has some really good tones coming out of it. I really like the Tweed (1-3) and Hot rod (10-12) settings. I actually tested the Hot Rod Sounds next to my dad's Hot Rod Deluxe. They were almost spot on. One setting that I like to use is to crank the clean channel for a rhythm sound and then use my Digitech Screamin Blues for a lead. The effects built into this amp are really good. I have used each at least once, however I only regularly use the spring reverb and the tremolo. This amp does seem to be a little bright, and the 2 EQ knobs don't seem to do much. But all in all, this amp was just what I needed. Then I started to bring it to rehersal. Unfortunately it wasn't loud enough in a band environment to really be useful. Nothing a mic couldn't fix. Now to the downside of this amp. When I first got the amp, I noticied a slight rattling sound when I hit a C#. I figured it was a microphonic tube, but it wasn't horrible. Then the problems started escalating, and before I knew it every note created a rattling noise. I brought it to a local guitar shop and had it fixed under the Fender Warranty. Sure enough, it was a microphonic preamp tube. They fixed it up with no cost to me. I had the amp for another week or two after that. One day I was just messing around with it and I just stopped working. There was a fizziling sound, then a pop, then nothing. The light turned on, the channels switched, and the tubes were glowing, but no sound. I tried to run a head through the speaker and the speaker worked fine. I brought it back to the guitar shop and found the transformer had been blown. Bear in mind I was playing with no effects on the clean channel with volume on 4. They had to get a new one for me from Fender. When I first got the new one, I plugged it in and found another microphonic tube. I was very disappointed with the lack of quality on these amps. I loved the sound, but it just wasn't reliable enough to bring to rehersal, let alone gig with.

Great Amp!

By Ken

from California Central Coast

I have owned many Fender Amps and the Super Champ XD I would rate as one of the best I have played. It packs a powerful punch with superior Blackface sound. The 10" speaker is a perfect match that provides the rich tone you expect from a Fender tube amp. When you crank up the volume the tone just keeps getting better with little distortion. The digital effect are amazing. The setting for spring reverb sounds very good and the other effects also sound good. The distortion channel provides a good selection of tones for your own preference. You will appreciate the compactness of this amp and will be amazed at the sound for the value. As you can tell, I like this amp. Kudos Fender!

Best starter amp out there!!!

By Mike

from El Paso

This has got to be THE ABSOLUTE BEST AMP FOR THE MONEY PERIOD! For anyone who is starting out or who doesn't need to play an arena. This thing flat out rocks. The only thing that would make this thing any better would be a higher end speaker but that can be changed very easily as the speaker tends to be a little weak on the bass side but the mids and highers are excellent, but the fact that it has a line out makes up for since you can hook up a full rack with this if you wanted, wich is an AWESOME feature. This has two tubes plus a tube rectifier; yeah three tubes in this small package. So yes this is the best amp out there for the money.

A very cool amp

By edzep

from Michigan

Although I've only had the amp for just over a week, I am very pleased with the performance of this amp. It blends modern features within a classy package. It's not all about good looks though, and this thing provides some very fun and usable tones. I'm in the process of selling two amps that are great to have around, but are way too much in terms size/wattage/cost for a 'living room' guitarist such as myself. This amp is right in the sweet spot - versatile, easily transportable, and cost effective. I really haven't fully explored all the sounds that one can coax out of this amp, that'll take some time, but the few I've gravitated toward are very convincing. I'm admittedly a Fender fan so consider me as favorably predisposed toward their products in general - but having said that, I think I can recommend this particular amp without being too biased. Unless you're a boutique amp purist or someone looking for an amp to play Madison Square Garden, this Fender will serve you well.

Tubes at this price

By Aron

from Charleston SC

I was going to give the amp 4 stars, but when you factor in the cost, there really is no choice but to give it 5. The clean channel is amazing. You can hear every nuiance of your playing style. There are a lot of different amp settings that are very good. Some are not, but there are plenty to choose from. I love the range of the amp. You can get anything from jazz, to AC/DC, Radiohead to light metal. The only reason I was going to give 4 stars is because I would like a mid range adjustment and seperate EQ for each channel, but at this price you could buy a dedicated amp for clean and dirty so my concern is not fair at this price. The sound is amazing. I tried and returned a VOX ADV50T and a Vox AC15 and I truly like this amp much better. I play this through a Marshall 4x12 and cannot turn it past 3 in my living room.

Waiting was stupid

By Eric F.

from Rochester,NY

I tried it in the store against the Peavey, Marshall, Line 6, Vox, Crate, 1x12 combo's. The XD sounded the best but...I took all the others home. Then I took them back to the store again. Finally took home the XD. It's a keeper. I can't stop playing it. It's this little thing...and it kills! It works great with my pedals and my multi-pedals and for recording. It works great alone. If you want a small combo don't waste your time with a anything else. It's like everyone says, for the money it's amazing. Someone said try a Cajun 10". I just might. They should've thrown in the footswitch. Fender!!!

Great Amp

By Warren

from Connecticut

I have never heard a tiny amp like this go so loud, with such clear tones. The tones are clear low, high, everywhere. The voices are very versatile, ranging from acoustic to metal. The FX including reverb delay tremelo etc are all really well done. Needless to say it sound like a fender, but it has the versatility of all your pedals. For the price, you probably can't do much better.

Totally Impressed

By Lenny B.

from California

Bought this little guy yesterday and took it home. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon. Didn't stop playing it until well after midnight. Totally impressed with all the sounds I could get from it. It was also a great compliment to my Fender Telecaster. This amp is "PERFECT" for home or studio use. It's so versitile and the sounds are amazing. I would highly recommend this amp to anybody. If you want a great amp and for the money you will not go wrong with this purchase.

I LOVE this amp

By gman

from orange ca

I've had This Super Champ XD for a half a year and just adore the tone I get from it. the voicings are very good and the effects are limited but usefull .The speaker sounds good but was a little lacking in the bass.I put a Celestion Vintage 10 and now it is awesome! The speaker breaks up easily (very responsive), sometimes I have to turn down the guitar volume to keep it clean. If you want to keep it closer to the original sound, but with more bass the I would recoment the Eminence Rajun Cajun .

great little amp

By Dave Dorflinger

from warrenton missouri

My first amp was a 60's vibro champ. Later, I used it as a pre amp for my acoustic 4-12 combo. It killed! Man, those were the days. Recently, I was looking for a small practice amp and thinking of how much I loved that old vibro champ when I saw this xd. It looked similar but what a difference. This thing is amazing! It sounds great and the different voices and effects (16 of each) are fantastic! Fender champ amps have certianly come a long way in 40 years. I'm sold. Try one and you'll be too. This one's a keeper.

Awesome!

By FenderDude67

from Knoxville, TN

A few months ago, I decided to buy a small tube amp. I considered the Epiphone Half Stack Junior but ultimately decided on this little monster. I was impressed with the clean and distorted tube tones I could get from the Super Champ XD. I love the 16 "voices"...you can get just about any sound imaginable by adjusting the volume, bass, treble, and gain settings. You also get a variety of effects including reverb, delay, chorus, tremolo, and vibrotone. This amp accompanies my American Strat extremely well, and I would recommend this amp to any guitar player who might be on a budget, wants great tone, and/or needs a practice/studio amplifier.

WOW

By Randy

from Near Cleveland Oh

The XD is the amp modeler you want. It totally wipes the others to grit. The tweak-ability of this amp is amazing. Every amp model, no matter how clean or dirty, you can adjust the gain to way more than you'd need. Adding the reverb, delay or chorus, etc, is icing. The 'line out' doesn't work that well as a recording tool like they boast but you can if you don't mind the solid state crunchy overtones. I also added an old Celestion 12" '80' to help the bottom spread cuz you need to on the metal settings. The 10" wont do it. Otherwise, for composing or practicing it rules.

Incredible sounding amp and value

By S. Stephens

from Dallas, TX

I bought the Fender Super Champ XD because I was looking for a small tube practice amp and had heard good things about it online. I had no idea how good this amp sounded until I tried it out at a Guitar Center and compared it with the Peavey VYPYR and Line 6 amps. Sure they had lots of effects and settings but could not touch the Super Champ XD which was half their size and looked harmless enough. Don't let this amp fool you into thinking it can't get loud. I bought it and played it and never went past 2.5 and it was plenty loud. I've been playing for 35 years now, have played professionally, and owned Mesa Boogies, Marshalls, Peaveys, and Riveras and I have to honestly say this is one of the best sounding amps I have every played. I just wish Fender would issue a larger version of it. This isn't just a beginner amp; this is the real deal. I'm blown away.

pretty good

By giezi

from mcallen tx

when i was a guitar center looking for an amp, 2 years ago i bought an epiphone valve JR. the reason why i wanted an amp was because i run a tonelab se thru it so i wanted an actual tube amp. well to make the long story short. i hated that amp. it wasnt really clean (even in low volumes) so what i did was sold that motha and started looking for a new amp. when tried this amp i took my guitar (epi wildkat) and my pedal board to try it out... I LOVED IT! awsome cleans and just a little crunch after the volume hits 6.. i love this amp and sounds great with my TLSE.

Great Amp!

By Allen Miller

from Dayton, OH

I purchased the 4-watt tube Vox amp (10") and decided that it didn't have quite the volume projection that I would like to have for certain situations so swapped it for this 15-watt Fender amp within my 30 day guarantee period. There are pros and cons, which are to be expected with an all-tube amp in this price range. The voicings aren't the greatest, but my intention was to run my Pod XT Live thru it anyway, so no big deal. It has great volume in such a small package and seems to adequately produce the tones of my Pod, though some tweaking is necessary. Great for recording and practice, as is marketed. I may still go back and get the Vox again and add it to my arsenal as well because it was a great recording amp in its own right (growl!).

Killer Amp

By BB

from DC

This little amp sounds amazing on all voices. The effects aren't super tweakable but very usable. My Kustom '72 is just sitting there, waiting. I love this little amp. Used it at band practice and a small gig with no problems. Not recommended for larger rock-club type of gig, however. It's loud but it ain't THAT loud. The thing is that it just sounds great which makes it a ton of fun to play. Nice harmonic feedback from the higher gain settings, great clean channel. All the good reviews are correct. This is the most versatile and best sounding small rig out there. And on channel 2 there's a flavor or two for everybody. I did the Rajin Cajun thing and it does sound a bit bigger but the stock speaker sounded pretty darned good too for what it's worth. There's an ever so slight delay when foot-switching from 1 to 2. That annoys me but I can live with it. All in all. GREAT amp. Really.

Great Amp For The Money

By jbutler

from Sugar Land, TX

Okay, I'm just a beginner on guitar, but have been playing winds professionally for 40 years. I did some research and found this amp was probably what I needed. I purchased a Lone Star Strat about a month ago and was using my son's old Peavey Rage 158 that he used when he first started. I wasn't happy with the Peavey, but didn't need an expensive amp at this stage. I looked at the Blues Junior and Princeton amps, but seemed a bit pricey for a tube amp....then I found the Super Champ! So far it has been a pleasure with lots of clean sound anyway enough for a home practice amp. I've been experimenting with the various voicings and am having a blast.

Pleased...but you may want to consider

By Kevin

from Wetumpka AL

I had been searching for a new amp for sometime, but they were all big, bulky, heavy, and loud. Since I mic my amp into a soundboard, it isn't necessary to have all that power. You get the screaming tone without the ear deafening volume. This enables me to nicely blend with the vocals, keys, etc. I ordered the foot switch but have yet to receive it. My chief complaint is the ability to switch sound in the middle of a song. I will have to access if the little switch will enable me to control my sounds better. We usually role 4 or 5 songs in a row so quickly modifying my tone is critical. The plus side, I own several old Gibsons and they scream & howl with incredible passion in this little rig. I'm very pleased with what Fender has done. Orginally I was looking to spend a large amount of money on a new rig but this blends old vintage sound and new technology into a sweat package and I'm not drowning the vocalist to get the tube scream. Lot's classic Fender amps for a fraction of the cost.

No complaints here

By Whip

from Philadelphia, PA

The Fender Super Champ XD is most likely the most versatile and best sounding amp that you are going to get for your money. I tried many others in the price range from Crate, Line 6, to Vox. I feel like the 1 X 12 that many of the other amps were pushing didn't have the range that I was looking for. Everything was too muddy, the highs weren't clear, and the distortion sounded way to digital. This amp has a great range, though, and 15 or 16 different modulated amp sounds. Trust me, you're going to find one that suits your style. It has a handful of sound effects that all sound pretty good. There's only one knob to adjust the presence of each effect, so don't look for the sound you could get out of a pedal, but they do give you 2 presets for each effect, hoping that one will suit your need. It would be nice to find the foot switch for this amp, but guitar center doesn't stock it, and couldn't even order it for me. I would recommend this amp to anyone that plays in a small space and needs to "keep it down" every once in a while. It's not necessarily a quiet amp, but it does give you the option to play lower than most amps without losing the heart and soul of your sound.
