I bought this because I wanted something portable (I travel a lot), with a good tube Fender sound, and also with some effects so I don't have to tote around a ton of pedals. This fits the bill. I don't know of another product that checks all those boxes. In the store I liked the sound quality, but once I took it home I realized that over about 1/2 volume the shortcomings of the flimsy stock speaker become really apparent. Like lot of people, I replaced it with a Ragin Cajun. I'm still not sure I wouldn't have been better off with something like a Celestion Greenback, which is truer to the sound profile of the Fender speaker, but the RC keeps sounding better and better as it breaks in. It's certainly louder. One defect that really bugs me about this amp: There are at least a couple significant rattles in the cabinet. At some frequencies one of the solid state boxes that protrudes down from the amp section rattles. At others the 12AX7 preamp tube itself rattles. I don't know what to do about this without taking the whole thing apart, and the rattles are very annoying. The line out sound quality is super great. This is why I wonder if I bought the right speaker. I have a couple minor gripes about where I think Fender really dropped the ball on a good idea: 1) The tap setting is great to set your rate of tremolo/chorus/vibraphone, but once you twist the f/x knob or turn the amp off, you lose the rate and have to set it again. 2) The F/X select knob has 16 positions which could have been better utilized. For example, there are 3 reverbs and 3 tremolos where one of each would do, but no possibility to combine reverb with tremolo! 3) A mid range tone knob on the amp would have been very nice, although there is one in the software. All in all, I like this amp very much. You could spend twice as much and get maybe marginally better quality tube sound, but you'd lose the portability, versatility, and hundreds of dollars in the bargain.

I expected a LOT more from a Fender 30-watt tube amp. I don't like modeling amps and the only bell and whistle it has is... modeling. It's otherwise simple which I like. At quiet volume the amp has that distinctive Fender amp clarity. One of the models is a clean model, which took me a bit of hunting to figure out. Then I was able to unlock some of the amp's limited potential by using channel 2 which has a gain setting. The deal killer was the 10" speaker. Anytime I tried to use my pedal board, especially my OCD and Metal Zone, it distorted apart from the distortion it was supposed to have. I swapped a 10" Celestion in, and even that didn't help.

I had an old non-working Line 6 amp with a working 12" Celestion in it. I removed the chassis and hooked the 12" to the 10", quick and dirty for proof of concept. HUGE difference. It sounds great and handles anything I can throw at it. Today I plan a volume test to see what it'll do at higher volume, but I'm prettty sure it'll also be a big improvement.

Don't buy this amp if you plan on using it for higher volume, even practicing at a higher volume, and/or if you want to use gain pedals.

Fender, a word of advice: Spend the resources to redesign this amp to accommodate a 12". They'll fly off the shelves.

Super-duper Amp

By P S

from WSea WA

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The Super-Champ is a portable, well-made amp with so many tones to add to your playing. Lots of effects to try out. Two channels, the XD footswitch works with it (but is extra.) I compared this amp with the Line 6 Spider which I liked until I heard the Super-Champ. It's got tubes AND some digi-up its sleeves. The best of both worlds and it is easy to use. I keep the volume around 2. This amp can get very loud so the walls and floor pulse, which makes my neighbors start looking for 'that teenage boy who is making all that electric guitar racket.' Fortunately I pass as a 50 year old woman. The neighbors never suspect that huge sound is coming out of my house. I also purchased a Fender Blues amp cover to keep my cat from getting any ideas. One thing to note: if there is a headphone jack on this thing, I haven't found it yet, so be warned. But aside from that, I'm happy with my purchase. Mama's got a brand new bag!

An Excellent Amp

By Bill Kenney

from New Jersey

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I actually own the Super Champ XD, the previous version which is no longer sold through retail, but as far as i can tell, they are exactly the same (except the $150 difference, and some digital-effect-mixing-computer-thing which i could care less about). Moving forward, this is an awesome amp! Some of the best tone i have heard in a long while. Fender really gave this amp that all-American tube sound that i crave (sorry Orange). On clean, the lows are rich and full, and the highs are smooth and creamy. But add some overdrive in there and -BAM- you get those tight and fast lows, and those screaming tube highs! The voicings are a bit cumbersome at first, but I've grown to love 'em. Great tonal response all around the board. The features this guy comes with are ABSOLUTELY essential for every amp. Line out, foot-switch, two channels, and even a speaker out! This is the ultimate in portable, professional amps. And would it hold up for gigs? Definitely yes. And if your looking for really loud, then just buy (or use, if you have one) a 4x12 Marshall cabinet, plug it into the speaker out, turn the volume to 11 and RIP OFF THE KNOB.

Versatile Tube Amp

By Andy

from Holliston, Ma.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is exactly what I was looking for. I tend to favor the clean sounds over the distorted sounds. It seems that the great majority of modeling amps are solid state and offer many more distortion based modeling sounds than clean sound variations. I am glad to say that the Super Champ offers that nice tube punch that solid state amps lack, and that the voicings offer several sweet clean to lightly broken up sounds. I have owned many, many amps over the last 50 years and feel that for a moderate sound environment, you can not beat this amp. I know others can't wait to switch the speaker, but I am truly satisfied with the whole package and would not change a thing.

A Fender fan's dream; sounds way bigger than its size

By Len Dube

from Exton, PA

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I had a Vibrochamp. Absolutely loved it but felt I needed more tweak ability. While its effects presets were probably the best you could ask for for 'fixed' settings, after about a month I was looking for variations it couldn't offer. This little powerhouse is exceeding my expectations after just one day. First of all the tone is startlingly good. Yes, the front end is digital, but then the signal passes through three tubes before it hits the speaker, and they do what tubes should. I've not owned any of the amps it claims to model, but everyone one of its 'voices' evokes very recognizable and very authentic tones. You've heard all these sounds before and unlike other modeling amps, even Fender's own Mustang series, these all sound natural and organic. I had a Mustang IV and this thing sounds SO much better. Compared to the Vibrochamp's 8" speaker, the 10" speaker in this amp, along with being fed by 2 6V6's instead of one, gives this amp a huge sound, with much better bottom end. I have an old Line 6 Ax2 100 wat amp with two 12" cones and this little guy hangs with it. You will be inspired by this little amp. And with 15 watts it's plenty powerful, but at only 24 pounds you won't give yourself a hernia carrying it around. So far so good; unbelievably good tone in a loud but smal package. But the real fun begins with using the Fuse software which you download for free from the Fender website. With this you can deep edit aspects of the voicings and make them your own. The first thing you get on most of the amp models is the all important middle tone control. This alone can radically alter the body of a voice and probably should simply have been provided on the face of the amp. But then there's transformer 'sag' and tube 'bias' as well as changing the speaker cabinet and of course, you can always select a different amp. Happy with your new concoction? Fuse let's you overwrite any of the 16 Voice positions on the actual amp with your new custom creations. You can do the same thing too with the effects settings, and like the amps themselves, there are additional parameters, and even entirely new effects, that you can add that go well beyond the presets. The hidden 'bonus' is the empty position for a 'stompbox' available on channel 2. There is a very decent sounding overdrive pedal you can put here or even a decent compressor, neither of which are available on the basic amp itself! While the stomp box selection can't be saved to one of the effects positions, the whole shmeggegy can be saved as a 'preset' on your computer. You can build up your library of presets as deep as you'd like! Another advantage over the Vibrochamp is that this is a two channel amp, the clean channel being modeled after a blackface Deluxe. But the real magic is being able to 'blend' this classically 'chimey' channel with channel 2 when using one of two British voices available there. This can only be done in the Fuse software and while I know it can be saved as a preset to your computer, I don't know if this little trick can be saved as one of the 16 voicings on the amp's rotary dial. But I can tell you that these British voices are thick and meaty, full of rich harmonics, even at lower gain settings. And that's when the amp is driven by my Blacktop Tele!! While I believe you could perform with this amp in smaller venues ( and a polite drummer) you'd have to make due with the two channels as your foot switchable options as the available foot switch will not allow you to access the 16 different voicings nor the different effect preset locations (though you can toggle them on and off). But get this, you can save entire collections of your 16 custom voices and presets together in their own groupings, so you could have 'home' or 'gig' profiles you download into the amp depending on your intentions. Not bad. I'm in pig heaven as they say. I no longer gig so I just wanted to have awesome Fender tube tones and the ability to tweak 'patches' beyond what the little 5-watt Vibrochamp could for my own playing and recording. This thing will do anything from country to metal with no sacrifice in tone, IMHO. The new big trend these days seems to be in these smaller, lighter, lower powered amps. In the last 3 1/2 months I've gone through: Fender Mustang, Blackstar HT-5R, Fender Vibrochamp and FINALLY this Superchamp X2. It has them all beat for tone and the computer Fuse tweak ability rivals the Mustang. I really don't see any other manufacturers trumping this effort.

Your entry-level amp to "real" tube tone

By Jeffrey Homuth

from Twin Cities, MN

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have nothing against modeling amps - I owned several Vox Valvetronix amps (which were excellent), and the Super Champ X2 itself has some digital modeling components in the front end. But the Super Champ X2 is superior to the other sub-$500 amps I have tried in that it offers convincing tube responsiveness in a simple, intuitive package with a vintage appearance. Channel 1 is volume only, and offers shimmering clean Blackface tone. Contrary to popular believe, there is digital modeling on this channel as well, only it is locked to the one clean setting. It is very dynamic and takes pedals very well. Channel 2 has 16 different voice settings, ranging from the small Fender Champ, to the Princeton, Deluxe, Bassman, and even non-Fender products like Vox and Marshall. Overall, the Fender models are outstanding. The higher-gain voices are less convincing, but still very useful to have as an option for home practicing. Even if the amp only had 8 "great" voices, it's of no detriment to the user to have 8 additional choices, even if they are less appreciated. The 10" speaker is a stock ceramic and sounds great at bedroom levels. There's discussion of upgrading the speaker, but this is not necessary at bedroom levels. This amp gets just loud enough to do some gigging, but it's better suited for home, hobby, or the studio. I've been playing for years, and I can't tell you how satisfying it is to hear those classic Fender tones finally coming out of my home amplifier.

Super-do-per X2

By Richard McGuire

from Linwood, NJ

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been waiting for Fender to develop a tube amp that combined the DSP effect features with the warmth of tube power that was light weight offering ease of portability! The X2 does it!!! Plus, the added "TAP" feature offers more flexibility for the EFXs... I feel it approaches "analog" sounds on the delay, tremolo, and chorus features. For me the "bonus" is the line out..why? because you can run the line out feature directly thru a PA system... the X2 really performs splendidly when doing that ...or...I run the line out into my old, but very much "alive" Princeton 65 DSP amp thus utilizing the 12" speaker which provides a great stereo sound. The "voice" feature is quite awesome... the amp models provide excellent representations of classic and modern Fender amplified stylizations. The X2 "vintage modified" surely owns up to its claim... and the price is very reasonable for what that little amp offers!!!

Great Tube Tone

By Peter Brown

from Oak Brook, Illinois

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased the Fender Champ X2 a couple of weeks ago. I've been looking for a combo amp with great warm tube tone for practicing. This amp delivers that tone. I love to play blues but occasionally venture into other genre's. This amp has the perfect clean tone on channel #1 that I have been looking for. For those occasions where I just want to cut loose and do a little shredding, it also serves me well. The built in amp voicing is fairly accurate; however, I generally use this amp with my Digitech RP500 FX box. The reason for this is that the optionaly footswitch only changes the channel and not the voicing or FX. During performances, I need to make these changes and these do not work well using only a channel change. The Super Champ X2 is very light weight and can be used for practice or gigs in small venues. The 10 inch speaker and volume is adequate and if you need a bigger speaker there is a speaker output jack. I have tried using the FUSE software and it is fun to play with; however, I don't find it very useful. One thing that I wish that Fender would add to this amp is a mid range dial. You can change the mid range within the FUSE software but not on the actual amp. Generally, I am very pleased with this amplifier and recommend it to anyone who loves warm tube tone.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I was looking for an amp that I could use at home without waking up the neighbors but still sounded like an authentic tube amp. This little amp rocks for just that purpose! There's a lot of great sounds available in the effects where I din't have to drag out any pedals too. I read several reviews that said the sound was weak. Don't believe them. There's plenty of meat to the sound and when putting an SM57 in front of it you'll get a massive sound you'll love. The only small negative was a rattle from the speaker mounting board due to it not being glued to the sides. This only happens when hitting a G chord. A little bit of adhesive and a couple of screws onside the amp fixed this issue in less than 10 minutes.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Just tried an X2 at my local GC. Quite disappointed. Maybe it was the one I tried, but it didn't hold a candle to the discontinued Super Champ XD. Didn't have that "Fender Vibe", was boomy and uneven. IMHO, Fender had "it" with the XD but missed with the X2. Wish I could have said something better. Maybe it was the one I tried...

You won't find a better amp for the money. The Bassman is my favorite setting, along with a little delay and reverb. Really nails that rockabilly sound. You could play small venues with this, but it's primarily a practice amp ( but a really good one ).

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I really enjoy this little versatile amp. It sounds great with my new Gretsch. You'll have hours of fun producing so many different effects. I chose baby blue because it was $50 less than the black ones. Its probably not large enough to play with a band but again I never really cranked it to the max. It's perfect for the home but irritating enough for the wife!

Clean to grit, a singing little combo!

    By Jerrell

    from Mnahattan, KS

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

First, let me say that I love this amp! Why, then you might ask, have I given it only 4 stars? Well, I have a couple of minor niggles... I recently decided to 'Joe Bonamassa' my rig - tone stacking with multiple amps - and this was the first I chose (Bonamassa fans are probably wondering why I didn't Marshall up. Well, like Joe, I love great clean tones and I can't afford a Dumble...) Just using the 'Normal' channel, this thing has spank tone for days and days!! With a judicious use of the tone section, you can go from dark jazz to brittle chicken picking in a second. The amp response is also pretty touch-sensitive, so it yields all of that character of a boutique amp. Not only am I happy with this amp, I am seriously considering stacking at least one more into my rig, although I may go head/cab this time for tonal variety. Now, to the niggles... I have used amp modeling tools for years, starting with Line 6. I am sad to say that Fender kind of missed the mark here. The modeling is acceptable but the defaults tones are not at all to my liking in general. The Twin and Deluxe modeling are exceptional, if a bit overdone with virtual effects, and the Tweed tones are good. However, the more modern modeling is not worth the time to tweak them with Fender Fuse. Newsflash, Fender - let the amp stick with what it is really good at! The Super Champ really doesn't need the modeling at all because it is a sonic dream without it. Second niggle - The DSP effects are WAY overdone in default mode. The spring reverb is essentially unusable for my taste past about 2 1/2 on the level. Even the plate reverb is tinny and thin. My opinion is that Fender needs to lose the DSP altogether and stick in an FX loop. NOTE: I have yet to tweak the amp with the FUSE software and so may opinion my shift, but I am generally not a fan of onboard DSP, no matter who makes it. Too much compromise and too little tone payoff for me. I'll stick to my pedal board. Even with the hiccups, I am stone sold on the Super Champ!

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I really like this amp, especially for the money. The cleans are very nice, and the high gain settings are pretty darn good. As a test, I ran the speaker out into a 12-inch speaker cabinet in a large room with high ceilings - WOW! I have other all-tube amps. Still, I find myself using this Fender more and more. Very simple, very portable, alot of fun. If you are looking for a reasonably-priced smaller amp or recording amp, and you want better tone than the all-digital amps out there, this is a good one to have. Fender did right!

    So convenient!

    By Steve Cartwright

    from San Jose, CA

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I got tired of carrying the 65 Deluxe Reverb back & forth to the studio... so I needed something I could use at home. I've tried various solid state amps -- but they just didn't do it for me. This thing is great! It's a tube amp with that tube amp sound - but it's got some nice effects up front. Not enough to replace your entire pedal chain -- but certainly enough when you just want to grab just your guitar and amp and start playing! The FUSE software allows you to add more effects and tweak the sound more that you can from the amp's front panel -- but to be honest I pulled it out of the box... set the voice knob to Dirty Princeton... set the effects knob to Reverb + Delay.... and was amazed that it sounded better than I probably could achieved after an hour of tweaking pedals! Even if you don't want to use the built-in effects, you've got a great tube amp for a pretty reasonable price! Oh, and you can also turn the voice know to clean and use it as a nicer acoustic amp!

    i love it

    By Doug

    from denver, co

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

i am really happy with my purchase. i am fairly new to playing, however i have 5 amps and have tried some more at the store, taking them home. but this amp was the best ive tried. i use it for a practice amp and its perfect. with my 65 watt solid state amp i have to keep it on a volume of 2 which doesnt let them work enough. this amp i can keep in the middle range of the volume when i play which i think makes the amp work better. because its a tube amp, it sounds "real", ie, the tone is really nice. i notice a difference in response to my picking that is not there with solid state. ive never had a tube amp before, so this is a new world for me and i love it. also, the amp is light so i dont break my back lugging it. the built in effects are nice, i do wish that the effects could be independently used; and that you could control them with a pedal, more that just on/off. Other cons are possibly that the handle could be better built and more ergonomic, and when you use an extention speaker i have read that the 10" built-in doesnt work. i have not used the amp in a band situation yet, i wonder if the volume could get overtaken by a drummer. but, i understand you can run it direct into a PA. I use the amp for practice at home with a loud backing track and love it for that. The price is seems great for a new tube amp like this.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This little amp is the best I have ever had. Plenty strong enough for a home studio which is what I use it for.
It has a line out on rear panel that I use to go directly into my interface. The only draw back here is that it doesn't bypass internal speaker. But no problem I just unplug the internal speaker from rear panel. I love Fender tube amps and this one fits the bill for the price.

I own a 5 watts vibro champ amp, and looking to add some more watts for a small gigs but with the same sound and capabilities of the vibro champ I bought this amp, And I have to say that is way better than expected, the 2 channels , the size of the speaker, the punch, the clear sound, and I heavent used the Fender fuse Program to add or change effects, it really worth the money.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

im not too impressed. the clean channel is just ok. the second channel has the amp models which all sound bad. the power is ok for home practice or jamming without a drummer. the line out does not stop the speaker so i cant use it for headphone practice. the extended speaker output shuts off the internal speaker so you loose it. the stock speaker is week. i did replace it with a ragin cajun as th other comments said to do and it helped the sound in a noticable way. you need to factor in $70 additional for it. except when i did that it added at least 5 lbs, which made the amp heavy. i didnt like the increase in weight. but without it the speaker is bad. the handle is not great like the dogbone handle on other fender amps. the reason i got the amp was for portability. changes via Fuse do not stay when the computer is not connected. on the upside, the price is okay for an all tube amp.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 15W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Best amp in this price range by far. Even better than some more expensive amps. It may not be 100% tube but your ears won't be able to tell much of a difference. I personally use the clean channel with some pedals rather than the models but the models can be great fun to play with.
