Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Plus Top, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I thought long and hard about whether to buy a Standard (Mex) Strat or to go for the much more expensive American Standard...or to just stick with my $100 school-sale Squier. The combination of a price-drop and the GC credit deal made me go for the Plus Top and I figured my basic playing level did not warrant a more expensive guitar. After a short wait and a little mix up around delivery I took ownership about a year ago. First off, the guitar looks amazing with its maple veneer sunburst finish (rosewood neck) and classic slim headstock design (now common across most models). I cannot think of a better-looking Strat available either standard or custom; to me it looks way better than other sunburst finishes and I don't know why Fender doesn't do this finish on more models. Upon first play it was obvious that some basic set up was required so I packed it off to a local specialist who did a very good job in setting up the playing action. Twelve months down the line I've had the chance to play it a lot and to draw some conclusions; in summary I'm still struggling to really like the guitar. The neck seems to require frequent adjustment to keep a reasonable action while avoiding string buzz and I suspect that it is very susceptible to changes in room temp and humidity. The overall tone is not great but this may be down to my amp (which is temperamental) and the ongoing setup issues. I will persevere of course and may invest in a hard case to minimize the effects of temp/humidity between plays and my (back-ordered) new amp may provide further relief. Would I recommend the guitar? For the chance to own a genuine Strat, on balance I would say yes but be prepared for regular setup costs and to get to grips with the basics of neck adjustment yourself. I expect these hassles are common to more expensive models too so no reason to single out the Plus Top.....good luck and please post a review if you have one of these.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Plus Top, Rosewood Fingerboard:

Overall, it is a beautiful guitar. My only complaint is about quality control. The guitar came with many cracks by the neck pocket which was a result of over-tightening the bolts by the neck. I can't understand why Fender would allow a guitar with damage like that to be cleared for shipment. I returned the guitar and am waiting for a replacement. The tone is decent. The pickups leave more to be desired but they'd be fine for most applications. I'm just really picky when it comes to my tone. I'll probably replace the pickups with Seymour Duncan Alnico V's once I find a used set for a good price.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Plus Top, Rosewood Fingerboard:

10 years ago as a budding musician, I told myself that I would never own a Fender instrument. "Fender is boring." "Everyone has a Fender." "Fender is unoriginal."

I now own 3 Fender instruments, and 1 Fender guitar cabinet.

Fender has earned my respect over the years for being well made instruments, with fantastic tone and I think this will be a guitar I have in my possession for a very very long time.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Plus Top, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I bought this guitar about a year ago at the gc in Nashville. I saw this guitar because of the top. My guitar has a veneer top. I really don't like the top. I wanted a strat with a rosewood fretboard but I would have had to order it.
This is 100% Fender. Beginners this is mimic, but in my view it is better than the American made. The 6 point tremolo is better than the 2 point tremolo. I grew up on these guitars. I bought my first strat was in 1964, so I know a little bit about guitars. My next question is to buy a fender telecaster.
