Where do I start!?! First off, Mim strats are awesome for the fact that they are more like the original style strat (21 frets) over the american strat (22 frets). Mine sounds INCREDIBLE with my Fender amp. I can use the tremolo bar like crazy and that baby stays in tune no matter what! I get the most amazing clean sounds out of it and really nice distortion sounds, I am extremely satisfied with my buy! If you are looking for a beginner guitar or a upgrade definitely go with this, you wont be disappointed!

I've had this Strat for a year and a week. Great packaging. First sight: my frets had about 1/8" of dust on both sides of the frets, so no telling how long the neck sat flat "somewhere" in the factory. I found a human(?) hair in the springs. Nasty. Two big turn-offs. Anyway, one strum= very happy; played for about 20 minutes before tuning up. I should say attempting to tune up. I actually broke a string trying to tune up. After about 20 minutes of trying to tune this thing up, I decided to put on my Slinkys. Boom. Problem solved. Set ups are like opinions, so... Now, each of the tuners on this thing vary in feel, from brand new to old and loose. Not good at all. Within a half an hour of holding it in my hands I was questioning my purchase for that reason alone. A year later and the turners still (blank). The neck is nice. Silky, smooth. The one piece neck/headstock is (looks!) great for me, no problems except that the nut has such sharp edges that it hurts to slide up the neck from the headstock, so much so that I can no longer perform that move. Frets are nice and clean. I could do w/o the inlay on the back of the neck: I foresee future problems there, one drop and that thing will pop out. How do I know? 'Cause it did. I drop all my guitars (not on purpose!) and this one is alive and kicking: this thing is TOUGH (great build quality). Easy access to upper frets. The neck does feel and play great though, I am not impressed with the lack of sustain. The workmanship is very acceptable: fit and finish. The HSS configuration is why I bought this thing. Here you can get just about Every sound you need. I play 60's thru 80's "everything" and this one's got you covered. Can't dial in those classic rock tones? You need single coils! A great feature I really like: on the humbucker only setting, the tone switch is dead (in a good way). The single coils sound okay and I actually had to dial my gain down a little on all my settings when using the humbucker. Really, the pickups are flat and kinda lifeless, but are, overall, a go for the price. The bridge is only good for light bar work, but it'll get you through a few bombastic passages okay. I have lost some flesh on the height adj. screws on the bridge so...? This thing stays in tune very well. I rarely use the tone controls and use the volume knob even less; rather, I ride the volume pedal pretty hard and use the dynamic control of the same. This would make A Great First Guitar: easy to play, versatile, affordable, stout and just a dang good-looking axe. If this isn't your first guitar, but is your first Fender, save up and BUY AMERICAN.

Great guitar for the price!

By Zach

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I bought my Fender HSS Strat last summer, and it hasn't me down at all! The neck plays like butter, the bridge holds up for those violent dive bombs, and can play even the softest blues just seconds after it. The pickups sound so smooth with my Vox amp, and it preforms just as good as any standard Strat. The only thing I would complain about at all would have to be the tuning. Overall, it stays in tune, but sometimes after sitting for a couple days it would just go outta wack. But nothing hard to fix. I would recommend this guitar for any beginner/intermediate player who wants a taste of the real Fender. Amazing guitar for the price.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing! I bought this guitar recently, and i am very satisfied with it. It sounds just as good as any other strat you would play, and the humbucking pickup makes it great for slide guitar too. Don't be fooled just because it is was in mexico. It sounds, feels, and plays just as good as any other american strat. Possibly better than some. It's perfect for intermediates looking for a better quality guitar. Don't luck out, this guitar is awesome!

Standard Strat HSS

By Renato

from Sao Paulo - Brazil

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I have received mine almost a week ago, and have been playing it everyday. It's really a great guitar! The Pros include great single coil pickups, very good finish and a very comfortable neck (though it only has 21 frets, like most/all MIM strats). The downsides: I found the bridge pickup to be quite "weak", and a bit noisy for a humbucker; The strings that came in it are too light for my taste (.009-.042 if I remember correctly); I don't know if it's because of the string gauge that I put in it, but it tends to go *slightly* out of tune when I use the tremolo too much. I did some mods to mine, and now I think it's an amazing instrument, that looks and sounds like a lot more money than it costs. What I did is: swapped pickups for Texas Specials necak & middle, Seymour Duncan '59 bridge; Changed strings for D'Addario Pro Steels .010-.052; Changed pickguard for a Warmoth custom pickguard, Silver Pearl color (looks very hot on my black strat). Now maybe I'll just change the tuners for locking ones to solve the tuning issues, but other than that, I really love the guitar, and I strongly recomend it to anyone. BTW... for those who think Strats can't play metal: just plug this baby into the right distortion pedal, turn on the bridge humbucker and make it scream (I use Vox Tonelab ST)

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

My favorite guitarist is stevie ray vaughn this guitar is perfect if you want his sound. It also has heavy desorition pickups so its great for hard rock. The only thing I suggest is to put 10 gage strings on. This guitar isnt ment for a wammy bar maybe a little but its great with it. If you do bring it to a shop they will tightin the brigde because its not a floating brigde. THIS GUITAR IS AWEOSME.

10 years old and still rocking.

By Jerry

from Mishawaka, IN

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

My wife bought me this guitar around December of 2000. I wanted an American made Strat, but didn't have the money for one at the time. I later bought a Gibson Les Paul, and stowed the Strat in it's case for a few years. I got it back out this past year and forgot how much I loved the tone. I am currently updating it with Lace Sensor P/Us since I plan on having it for the next ten years. I had heard that the electronics were somewhat better in these MIM Strats prior to 2000, but I think they're great as is. I'm just updating it to have something different. Instead of buying a new on, I'm just gonna invest some $$$ in this one,and make it unique. My only complaint is the frets. They're small, which is OK if you like them that way. I don't. It makes bending a little difficult. The frets on mine are also jagged. I can feel my fingers hit the sides of them when I'm sliding. Needless to say, they get in the way and prevent me from playing certain licks. It could be easily remedied by having them dressed.

Awesome Strat

By Blake

from Jacksonvile, fl

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Being low on cash, I wanted a great guitar for a great price. I was torn between the Epihone Les Paul copy and this Mexican made (2008) HSS Strat. I LOVE this guitar. As soon as I picked it up I really could not put it down. The neck fit so snug in my hand, it made playing a breeze. The neck is strong and the whole guitar feels really well made. You can play ANYTHING on this guitar and it sounds EPIC. The pickups are another great feature. The humbucker sounds really nice and hot (Not quite as hot as a gibson, but its so close that im willing to deal with it) with a really nice trebbley sound to it. The middle single coil gives a really nice Telecaster type clang ,great for all that southern rock. And of course, The neck single coil gives that classic blues/jazz strat sound that you cant get from anything else. If you play a wide variety of music, then this guitar will fit all your needs. If you play ONLY hard rock and metal then i recommend the Epiphone Les Paul copy.

Great Guitar, Period!

By Tim Russell

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Nevermind the fact that it's MIM. I bought a Black MIM in 1995 and put EMG David Gilmours in it, and it is STILL my main Guitar to this day. Right out of the box it was in tune. Incredibly easy to play. Forget all the talk about a "beginners guitar" it's fit for a pro. I've been playing 45 yrs touring and recording. Very good quality. We all need to thank Leo for what he started
