I have been playing guitar for three years now and recently got this as a gift. Its sound is more bluesy than the standard Stratocaster (which I also have), due to the single humbucking pickup. Other than that, this guitar is identical to the standard Strat in every way. The look, the feel, the ridiculously annoying plastic cover they put on the pickguard for some reason; it's the same. The only real problem, which I have actually seen in every guitar I have ever played except for one, is that the lower strings buzz occasionally. Other than that, this guitar is golden.

Guitar played. Did not come setup. Tremolo spring block was barely screwed in. Did not have bullet strings so most have been messed with. Neck pocket joint is very sloppy not routed correctly. Took apart pick guard to check wiring found several bore holes in body covered up by pick-guard filled in with clear coat. Tremolo does not match up to any other replacement it is smaller than average which means to replace will require modification. Fret buzz is annoying had to set action very high just to play with min. buzz. Very upset with the quality of the instrument and the playability. The only thing going for this guitar is the Fender name.

Beautiful instrument!

By Mitchell Huscher

from Easton, Pennsylvania

I received this guitar as a gift for Christmas this past year. I could not believe how excellent this was. The humbucker at the bridge position provides a much fatter sound that a regular Stratocaster. Since I am a novice, (Have about 3 years under my belt) I think that this is phenomenal!

Great value

By mark see

from Fort Myers, Fl.

First off, I must admit that I bought this guitar used although in mint condition. It's a 2011 and sunburst that is absolutely perfect. I have an american strat also but does not sound as good as this one. The MIM was stock and sounded pleasing to my ear, much better with 10s instead of the 9s it came with. If you have some extra upgradable parts lying around, this is the economical way to make this guitar sound as good as the american version. I replaced the single coils with custom 69s and the Humbucker with a Seymour Duncan 'Vai'. You wouldn't want to spend the money on the 69s unless you already had them of course. That would put you close to the american strat in price. I guess my point is, this stock guitar sounds fantastic without upgraded pickups anyway. It stays in tune also which I'm very pleased about. They say the Mexican made strats are better quality than ever in the last couple of years too. I'm going to buy a new one in light blue. This guitar is way better than anything in it's price range. It's my main player and I am now a believer in these guitars as I was sceptical before.

No competition

By EMILIO PEREZ

from Foxborough, MA

Epiphone is reliable but not always the best. Schectors are good but have a distinct style. For the "do it all guitar" that people search for, well this is it. I play classic rock and punk rock. I've had this fender for 4 months. When I received my guitar it was set up extremely properly. The action was the correct height, the pickups were the correct height, the wiring was great with no lose connections, all the frets were dressed correctly and polished to shine bright, there was no buzz. I was amazed at the finish. I got lake placid blue and pulling it out of the box it glistened in the light and the head stock has a gloss finish with no bubbles are scratches. Usually when I get a guitar around this price I do a little bit of fine tuning to it but this fender was amazing. The tuning machines are sturdy and hold tune great. all the nuts and screws are tight and durable. The pickups have a moderate output which helps for clean sounds but also plays great distortion. the single coils have a nice fat strat sound with a bit of single coil twang to it. I enjoy the hummbucker in the bridge for my distortion that I do not want feedback humming that happens from the single coils. The feel of the slim maple neck is just so relaxing no matter where I play of the fret board. I love it. If it had a vagina I would not need my girlfriend.

My New Fender

By Raul Ortega

from Miami,Florida

I bought this guitar at the Hallandale,Florida store. After trying out other brands of guitars, I said "let me try some Fenders". I tried about 5 Fenders, but when I plugged this one in an amp; I was taken away with sound quality. It has two bottom pick ups that really rocks! The fret neck is smooth as silk, making it a breeze for my fingers to play.I looked at the price which was $399.00,and it was made in Mexico, not China. I decided that this baby is going home with me.This Fender Standard is a very good quality made guitar for the price. I'm glad I bought this Fender, which I know will be with me for many, many, years! I recommend this Fender to anyone who is looking for a very good guitar,at an affordable price. One of my best friends has the same guitar in Lake Placid Blue. Thanks Guitar Center for a great deal.

Very nice indeed, and versatile

By MINH PHAM

from Boynton Beach, FL

I've always played LP, but recently fell in love with the sound of a single coil. So in looking at a single guitar that can give both humbucker and single coil sounds, I found this guitar to fill those needs totally. I'm also looking for one that I'll play and can occasionally take some abuse (kids) without feeling like flushing cash down the toilet. The looks: Lake placid blue is a metallic type of blue finish. This guitar, in this finish is awesome! The feel: I got the GT center to adjust the action for me, and it now plays like a dream. The sound: Really nice strat sound with the added bonus of humbucker. I love this versatility. The quality: The tuner stays in tune (for the most part, and I'm not too particular about this because I don't do gigs; just home playing/recording). The parts are fender, so they're good quality. I added a set of Fender strap locks, and I'm satisfied to leave this one alone - and just play! Overall, I'm happy with this purchase; this one is a keeper for life. I just wish that it came with a gig bag of some sort. Next quest: a telecaster :)

My first Stratocaster

By Thomas Jones

from New Albany, MS

I have always played acoustic guitars and i wanted to learn and experience an electric. It's a pretty guitar in terms of finish and fit. All the controls function and when plugged in to the amp the guitar plays clearly. I did have a setup done which significantly improved playability and intonation. I changed the strings to 10's with a wound G. I like the sound I'm getting now. I'd recommend to anyone that wanted to purchase an entry level Strat.

Great Guitar Worth the Money

By patricia crews

from Jacksonville FL

Ive owned my Fender Mex Strat fo about 1 3/4 years now and have been playing for 4 years. The guitar is really nice. Feels amazing and very easy to play. The only Problems I have with it is the same as everyone else. The Low E string did rattle when I first got it but that was just because the action was set to low. The Bridge Humbucker Pickup is hotter than a Squier but not as Hot as the 1K American version. The neck single coil just sounds like butter. If you plan on playing Heavy music I recommend an Overdrive pedal of some kind. The Tone pots seem to just be either "up" or "down". Really hard to work the tone knob as it just seems to be one extreme or the other. Volume knob is not as bad but still can be a pain. The guitar stays in tune SOOO Well. Tremelo system does work, but not as well as the American version. Overall, the guitar is of a good quality (4/5 stars If I had to rate that) If you want a Strat style guitar or are a noobie and do not have 1k to spend, I highly recommend this guitar.

Big Bang for the Buck

By Randy Mizell

from Virginia Beach, Va.

I was at first a little hesitate of buying this guitar for several reasons. The first being that it is made in Mexico. After doing a little research and having great confidence in Fender I decided to give it a try, and Man am I glad I did!! This guitar has the same quality's as the American made version and the sound is unmistakably that smooth sound that we are accustomed to hearing from Fender. The variety of music that can be played with this guitar is incredible. If you are looking for high quality sound at a great price then this is certainly the guitar for you!!!!

Great Guitar For The Price

By Ian Kline

from Tucson, AZ

I was concerned about buying a MIM Strat after hearing some stories. I wanted a Strat but didn't want to pay the big bucks for an American one as I am more of V body guy. I sucked it up and went with the made in Mexico one and I have to say I am very happy with it. After opening it and looking it over I went straight away to making some minor adjustments to pickup height and action to suit my playing style better. I'm very surprised at the quality of the factory pickups because they sound pretty darn good. The frets were all clipped nicely on my model which I have heard sometimes they are not always flush with the edge of the neck. I opened it up to check the electronics and all the wiring and work internally seems solid, which was another point of concern. All in all I paid even less than the ticket price due to coupons and I received an excellent guitar for the value. Anyone buying this guitar should consider a few small upgrades though in the future. I plan on replacing all 3 pickups with some of my favorites including a DP100 in the bridge. I would also look to upgrade the wiring at the same time, just because I'll be there already and it's not much to buy better quality wire. Most importantly I would rec. upgrading the tuning machines. This will greatly improve any tuning issues that some claim this guitar has...mine personally does not seem to have this problem but I'm doing whatever I can to increase the quality of the instrument. I also do not use my tremolo so I don't know if this guitar fairs well after some wammy abuse. The only real issue I have is with the tone pots. There is hardly any flavor in them. You don't get much of a blend but more like an extreme of either more or less treble. I may look into aftermarket pot upgrades to round out the sound of this thing. If you are like me and want a Strat but are on a budget, or your not sure you will love it or whatever reason don't want to pay more than necessary then I would highly rec. this guitar.
