I've been using Fender Standard Strats for many years now. I'm a professional musician and have been making a living out of guitar playing for the last 30 years and the last 20 years or so I've been using Strats almost exclusively. I've also been repairing and customizing guitars for over 25 years so I do have enough knowledge to back up this review and what I'm about to write.

Aside from the now discontinued Highway One series, the Road Worn Series, and a few classic models, the Standard Stratocaster is maybe one of the most traditional feeling Startocasters for under a grand. I prefer these over the American Series any day. The construction is equal to the quality of the American made. The electronics are of quality CTS pots and the selector switch is the same as the high end American models. The same can be said about the tuners. The bridge is vintage style which provides a more traditional feel and tone than the bridge used in the American Series. The pickups are decent sounding and usable although upgrading is usually what most players will want to do to personalize their individual tone. Even the American made Strats get pickup upgrades so it's not an issue. Body wood is alder and of good quality with an excellent finish. I prefer the neck on these over the neck used on the American Series because it's slightly thicker and rounder. Medium frets are just perfect.

I can't find anything negative to say about these guitars. I've bought about 20 of these and as a repairman, I've had several in my shop for set ups and upgrades and I can truly say, I've never seen a lemon. Sure, like any guitar, it will require a personal set up including anything from action, intonation, neck set up, fret polish, pick up balancing, and many other regular maintenance issues so it is unfair to consider this as being a con. It's just part of owning any guitar.

Even if you decide to upgrade anything, for example, adding locking tuners (direct fit by the way), pickups, Strap Locks, and a case, you still end up spending less than a grand. Keep this in mind. My Standard Strats are always upgraded by installing a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners, Brass Tremolo block, Gator case, and frequent string changing with Ernie Ball 11's. I set my action fairly high (5/64ths at 12th fret), polish frets regularly, and check intonation at every string change. The bridge is blocked (I don't use the trem) and it has 5 springs holding it flat to the body.

By the way, the newer models currently built are the best I've seen yet. Definitely a bargain. Built by machines and human beings in Mexico, as opposed to being built by machines and human beings in the United States. Contrary to some ridiculous and ignorant ways of thinking, country of origin does not dictate quality. At least not in the last ten years or so. These Standards have come a long way. How can you make it better? Paint them with nitro cellulose lacquer. That's about it. Try one out.

Hardware had to be tightened, neck had to be tightened and adjusted which cracked the finish by the neck joint, finish very thick in that area, luckily its very hard to see, I don't count the bridge adjustments because that is a matter of each players comfort, small scratches on the top by the strap button, and a few small dents where your arm rests, looks like they were in the wood and finished over. Nice feeling and sounding guitar, maybe I got a bad one. Luckily I got it on sale, I understand its a cheaper guitar but I think they could do better than that. I'd like to get a white one but not at the price, I will wait for another sale and cross my fingers in hopes I get a good one. I recommend it but only to those who have done guitar repair before, not to a beginner.

A lot of instrument for the money

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

I have never owned a Mexican made Strat and came across this during a holiday sale. It was inexpensive enough that I decided to buy it to complement my american made strat. I'm very impressed with the build quality of the guitar. Fit and Finish are all very good and it compares well to a much more expensive American Standard. The pickups sound good for the money but are the weak point of the instrument. Fortunately as your skill matures or your needs change they are easily replaceable. A seriously nice instrument for the money, kudos to the team just over the California boarder.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

This guitar wasnt that appealing to me at first because i had my eyes on an american standard, but i decided to take a shot and get this. Ive been playing Gibson, LTD and Ibanez electrics for 15 years. Always felt like single coils werent for me because they were too noisey. I'll admit the stock pickups aren't the best in this guitar, but since i put 3 emg active single coils in this thing it shreds. I havent played any of my other guitars since i had the emgs installed. The neck feels really nice and the maple fretboard is easy to glide up and down. The real reason im writing this review tho is for the people out there going back and forth between getting a mim or american made. I promise you that with the $600 you save by getting this instead of an american standard you can add some hot pickups, locking tuners, and a better bridge and make it sound better than any american made. Ive went back to guitar center and played the american deluxes even and i still preferred my guitar with the modifications ive done to it. Overall this was a project guitar, but now i couldnt be happier with it.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fretboard:

Great guitar!! The frets are just the right size you can pull off some very high bends without fretting out with this guitar. Plays very fast neck shape and size are perfect. I use this guitar for blues, jazz, hard rock heavy metal and it does a great job. Just use a boost pedal for the more high gain stuff. Mine weights around 7ibs 10oz. The pickups are not the best, but they do a decent job, you could always change them out. This guitar stays in tune really good without trem use. Check out the bridge tone pot mod!! it's very easy and gives you tone control for the bridge pickup, very useful. Check out the owners manual for set up tips!!
