Got a wicked deal on this bass. Ended up picking it up on clearance for $299, with a $60 gig bag thrown in for free. I own a 1975 Rickenbacker that is undergoing a major refurbishing. I was looking for a steady bass to rock in the mean time without breaking the bank. I plugged into my rig and hardly missed a beat with this thing. This bass is incredibly playable. At a regular price of $424 I would say that this bass easily holds its own against many double the price. The tone is great, the action is great, and it looks great!

after playing guitar most of my life, i decided to add bass to my resume. i wasn't looking for anything special. just something affordable that felt good and stayed in tune. i got a good deal on a new Fender P, black. i really love the way it looks, and the sound has some good 'bite' to it. it holds tune well also.i got it setup right away, but soon after playing it, the E string saddle slipped all the way down, causing the entire string to 'fret out.' back to the shop... a little Lock-Tite seemed to fix this problem, but I still notice lots of buzzy string noise. I've been killing myself practicing, thinking my technique was the problem. When I played a different bass though, I realized the problem wasn't me. the worst problem though, is there is a bad ground somewhere in the electronics which causes static. the guys at the shop haven't been able to figure it out.it's a cool bass, but the issues with the action and electronics make me want to get something else. i don't think i'd use my bass for recording.

I bought my Fender P Bass two years ago,and I am still very pleased this Bass is a monster. The lows are clear, the mids are punchy, and the highs are crisp I highly recommend this bass, its the only Bass I will ever play!

Precision Bass Review

By Ash Ketchum

from Long Island, NY

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

Pros: Good tone. Tuners are great, and neck feels really great, although I'm not a rosewood person. Also, built like a rock. You could probably break through a wall with this thing without it going out of tune.Cons: Pickups are pretty noisy. Finish is pretty thick and heavy, which reduces resonance. Bridge isn't the best; there's no tracks, so the saddles shift a bit. Also, the knobs fall off, but you can just screw them back on again in a minute.Overall: Pretty good overall. The 2 things to replace (if you deem it necessary) are the pickups and bridge, and between the two, it won't cost you over $200.Other thoughts: Wish it came in maple.

Setting the Standard

By Moe-IEpXB

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

I own 3 fender p's. one newer american, which I left stock, one 84 japanese which I left stock and this one. The standard beaner! I put a badass II bridge and a SD quarter pounder in it and bass players everywhere drool over the tone of this bass. Awesome playability and tone! I've played thousands of gigs with it over 8 years and its still tough as a nail! $$GREAT BASS FOR YOUR MONEY$$ I've actually had people pay me so they could use it in the studio.

My main bass for everything.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

This bass is amazing. Ive owned mine for nearly 3 and a half years, and its stood up to all the beatings of going to band practice, gigs, and being my main bass that I play 95% of the time. I installed Seymour Duncan Quarter pounds and it sounds awsome. I recommend this bass for anybody.

Awesomeness in a Chunk of Wood

By Steve

from Chicago, Illinois

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

This bass is awesome. My last bass wasnt so good and this was such a step up. It's a great second bass or amazing first bass. The tone is richer than Chuck Norris swimming in gold. Take it from me that this is a great buy.

great bass

By Noble

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

I bought this bass guitar because they wouldn't allow me to play electric in the community band. When I got it, it sounded great. The tone is awesome, there is no feedback, and i'm starting to like bass more and more! Plus, this guitar has the looks too! I would recommend this bass from beginners to people that have been playing for years.

Good basic bass, lacking when you need a bit more

By FunkosaurusRex

from Wadsworth, OH

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

I have been using a Precision Bass since I started playing bass. A few months ago I upgraded to this Fender Precision. I have used it consistently since then, and it has not caused any problems for me. It is a great workhorse, and lays down the low end well. However, once I progressed in my playing and started playing more involved lines, the bass did not keep up with me. The bass does not have good tone for slap, and the neck is very thick. The tone is very thin with the tone knob up, and very muddy with the tone knob down. It lacks the growl of a Jazz bass or Musicman. Overall, it's a great bass if you're not picky about your tone and you want to try out a bass. It will probably last forever, and I would recommend it to any rock bass player. Any funk players should definitely pass it over for a Jazz Bass or Musicman, as the tone is much better.

This deserves to be called a P-Bass

By Old Bass Guy-I8PnP

from Florida

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

I've been playing gigs on bass since 1970, and I've owned a few of every model Fender has ever made- Jazz, Tele, and P-Basses. I always come back to a P-Bass as my go-to bass of choice. I got my Standard P-Bass back in 2000, so that I would not have to trust my more valuable instruments to airline baggage handlers. After playing it for a few months and dialing it in to my personal preferences for setup, aftermarket pickups, etc., I ended up letting all my other basses get dusty. The Mexican Standard P-Bass has been my main bass for eight years, and it's not getting retired any time soon.

Great bass!

By Tyler

from Baltimore, Maryland.

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

Definitely a great bass. Mine's 3 years old, but that doesn't stop it. A standard P-Bass is a great buy if you want to get a good standby that you intend on keeping. Great tone, wonderful playing feel, and lighter than a few other basses I've tried, i.e the T-Bird. Mine's been set up professionally and is at USA standards as of now, but even stock you will get a great bass to gig out. Outside of playing and quality, it just looks nice. a very simple style that you can work with very easily. Worth your while!

Can't Beat A P-Bass

By affolter

from Baldwin, WI

Comments about Fender Standard Precision Bass:

I just bought a Fender Standard P-Bass in sunburst and I am simply amazed. The tone that this guitar produces is superior to any other bass gutiar, including the Fender J-Bass. The sunburst finish looks a lot better in person than in the picture, it has a rich color. If you are looking for a great bass with that classic 60's sound, this is the bass for you. Great bass Fender!
