Excellent for shows.

By Aaron McCracken

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

This is an excellent choice for a working bassist. Great tonal versatility just from using the knobs. Smooth action out of the box. I put an aged pearl pickguard, and bridge/pickup covers on, and it looks like it cost 4 times as much what I paid for it. I wouldn't recommend it for recording, hence 4 stars, but it is an altogether good instrument.

Good solid bass

By CHRISTOPHER STOPA

from Portland , Oregon

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

Bought the Fender Standard Jazz bass as a second bass. Found the bass to be well put together with perfect paint work. The pickups that came on the bass sounded good but I wanted a more vintage sound so replaced them . I also own a Fender American Standard which I like but I find myself playing this cheaper standard Jazz bass most of the time. The neck is thinner than the American Standard and feels more vintage and easier to approach. Electronics seem good.

Girth. Punch. Bass. Versatile.

By KENNER

from Oakland CA

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

A neck pickup to provide the warmth, and a bridge pickup to provide the punch. Together, they formulate the jazz bass by fender. It's well-rounded, and capable to expand its tones it offers to bassists of all sorts. Needing girth? Roll up the neck pickup! Feeling a little punchy? You got the bridge pickup to help you with that. It's great for fingers and pick players. It's great for beginners, and respected by veterans. Pick up a jazz, and start things right. Pick up a jazz and shape things right. Cheers.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass (in Arctic White) one week before heading to LA with my band to record our second EP. We stayed in LA for a week and worked with an amazing producer. I brought 3 bass guitars to the studio and ended up just using this one the entire week. It can play anything; that's why it's so wonderful. You can get so many tones out of it. My band is a pop/rock/funk group and this guitar had no problem keeping up.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

I bought mine a few years ago. It was slightly used, in gloss black and in excellent, like new, condition. I also bought a hard shell case fo it. I replaced the pickups with Bartelini Jazz Bass replacement pickups. Mine are solid black with no poles showing. I also replaced the bridge with a Gotoh. The bridge I have is real smooth with a flat surface to be able to rest my hand on it if I want to mute the strings while using a guitar pick. I also had a custom white pearloid pickguard made for it, exact shape and screw holes. I have flat wound strings on it as well. I love the feel of flat wounds on a bass.
I'm actually a guitar player and wanted to be able to play straight bass, pretty much the same way a Hofner would be used. I really like this bass; the workmanship, finish, tone and playability. I wanted to put together a bass guitar to suit my needs and this one does it perfectly. I beleive my replacement pickups are quieter than the stock pickups in the MIM basses, but I don't think the stock pickups were bad.
I don't think you can go wrong with a Fender MIM bass. Even with the upgrades, it costs much less than an American standard and it is a very fine instrument. I could have given it a 5 but I took off one point just because I felt the need to to do some upgrades. If givin the choice, I would replace the bridge on an American Standard as well. Just my personal opinion. Buy one, for the money I don't think you can find a better bass.

Play this bass at my church on Sunday's. It has more tone options than the p-bass I normally play. It sounds great live through the sound system.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

I had to get used to the 20 fret set-up. My old bass was 24 frets. The sound is awesome and the bass fingers like butter. No set-up issues. I went from practicing about once a week to playing every day since I got this bass. I have only been playing for a year but I have had the chance to play lots of basses. This one is as solid as they get.

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

Pickups are hot compared to my Squire Vintage Modified Jazz bass with Duncan designed pickups. Thats nice since I am use to active preamps. They are probably ceramic. With LaBella Deep Talkin Bass flat wounds this thing sings the blues and no single coil hum yet. Have not used it on a gig yet but through my amp and with head phones playing along with some Youtube it sounds really good to my ears. Took a chance from GC since I could not play it first but I heard that the Mexican jazz basses were improved and had better pickups and shielded electronic cavity, I felt the QC odds were worth a try.

I've owned several Jazz basses, this is the best one I've played. Balanced sound with the raised poles, comfortable neck without the weird flat transition like some modern necks. Fit and finish as good as any American version I've owned

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass Guitar:

Great instrument - it has all the qualities you expect from Fender. Moving up from a Squier, the sound improvement is the first thing you notice, but every component, including the body is a little thicker, heavier, and better finished. Don't be fooled by a quick side by side comparison in the store. If you can save the money, get a Mexican Fender over a Squier. At twice the price it is at least twice the instrument!

I AM TRULY IN LOVE WITH THIS BASS...Right out of the box...It played me. I was playing an old Peavy milestone, kind of a P bass, well built and sounds good but the Fender put it in its place. I have been wanting a white Fender jazz for 35 years since I sat in with a cover band and played one. The neck is made for quick changes, it is nice and comfortable. I play mostly heavy metal and am currently writing new music...what a perfect combo new music on a beautifully made instrument. Craftsmanship and quality are perfect.

I previously owned a Fender Rascal Bass, also a "MIM" or made-in-Mexico bass. I loved it, but had to sell it. Now I'm back in the saddle, so to speak! Ordered this MIM Fender Standard Jazz Bass in Brown Sunburst sight unseen. It is a beautiful instrument to behold! The craftsmanship is undiscernable from an American Standard instrument made in Corona, Ca. And the sound is just as fine. It's easy to play, even for a guy like me who has been a 99% guitar player for 50 years. I love this bass!!
