Great bass for a great price!

By Daniel

from Portland, Maine

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

Now I have never played and American Standard Jazz Bass, (I tried not to touch things I couldn't afford), but let me just say, this is one of the best basses I've played on. It's a giant step up from my Squire. You can get some really bright tones for slapping and popping, and more mellow tones are achievable too. I got the brown sunburst, and I'm going to buy a tortoise shell pickgaurd to make it look even nicer. Go get one!

Dream bass

By chad

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

This is the most amazing bass I've ever played. the only problem I've had at all with it is that the low E saddle slipped and I had to have it fixed. (on a side note guitar center fixed it for free and were more helpful than I could have hoped. If I was not a dedicated guitar center buyer before I am now) This bass plays like absolute butter. It has the tone that I've come to expect from a fender instrument, with a price tag closer to a squire. Absolutely the best money I've ever spent

Nice Bass for the money

By jloco

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I've been a professional drummer for over 25 years. Recently, I thought I'd like to pick up a bass and take some lessons. My father owned a music store and was a Fender dealer back in the 70's and 80's. Back then, I recall all Fender instruments being American made. As a kid, I remember all those shiney new fender guitars and basses at Dad's shop and I remember getting scolded for playing with them in my early teens. Anyway, when I decided to start bass, I knew I wanted a fender jazz. I went down to my local GC and tried out both the MIA and the MIM. I felt the sound quality was comparable on both models. You can also see the differences in laquer, paint, etc. Not being a guitar expert, past experience has taught me enough to understand neck quality, fit and finish, intonation, etc.. Money not being a real issue either, (I could afford to buy either model) I decided to grab the MIM model. It needed a complete setup as expected. Once done , I feel I made the correct purchase. Had I been a seasoned player, I may have gone with the MIA. Bottom line. The MIM is a fine quality instrument. My advise is to try them both, side by side and decide for yourself. The free hard case upgrade didn't hurt either. Cheers!

Back On Bass

By Larry Ketola

from Cleveland, Ohio

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

After years of not playing Bass I decided to pick it back up. I've been playing a lot of Acoustic music and decided to play Bass again too. I bought the Fender Jazz because I always liked Fender Basses. I'm glad I decided to get the Jazz Bass because I have always liked the sound of them even though I used to play a Precision Bass. The Jazz Bass sounds great and fits my needs. I had my tech set it up for me and it plays great. The price was good and the quality is decent. If you're looking to buy your first Fender Bass I would recommend this one,it's affordable and plays well. I would suggest you ask your salesman to have it set up before you buy it because the truss rod will probably have to be tightened and the action adjusted. I always have the tech I've been using set all my instruments up after I get them.

Bass Sucks haha Just kidding the best i have ever played

By Johnny DeNicola

from Wildwood nj

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

this bass is great if u want a jazz bass and want a P-bass sound all you have to do is turn off the bridge pickup. great sound this has but i would suggest in buy the fender noiseless pickups because the stock pickups can get hissy. Also a new bridge is good. other than that this bass plays really great. i like it better than my old ibanez i had. the cool thing is i got it on clearance and i got the last midnight wine color in the store =]]]] good bass good sound and tone awesome in drop C tuning slim fast neck. buy it

Really Nice Jazz w/o too much $$

By djflats

from Festus, MO

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I have an American Standard Precision with the maple fretboard and really like the feel. I also have a Geddy Jazz Bass which has the maple too. I was wanting a bass with a "in- between" neck, not as big as the Precision but thicker than the Geddy. I seen the new 09's were available with the maple fretboard and that's what I like. The USA's are real nice but I didn't want to spend the money at this time for a MIA Jazz so I thought I'd try the Standard Jazz. I went to GC to check them out and found the candy apple red with a maple fretboard. I really liked the feel of it. The neck was smooth and fast. It feels very close to the MIA P's neck as for as smoothness. I ended up ordering a brown sunburst w/ a maple neck and put a brown tort pick guard on it...nice. The frets are nice and in my opinion the pu's are fine. The bass has good tone and good playability. It looks really good, well-put together. The only flaw I found was the input where the jack plugs into was loose, the jack wouldn't snap in. I found this with all 3 of the jazzes I tried. I took the control plate off and bent the clip inside and now the fit is tight. I would recommend this bass to anyone...beginners on up. I use it over the MIA P right now because of the feel. I play through a Fender Bassman 250/210 which makes for a good match. Lots of punch. I think it's a really nice bass and the price is right...at least for me it was. Btw, I ordered it on a Sunday and was playing it that Tuesday. Good service. Thanks GC.

Awesome bass!

By Kyle

from Indianapolis

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I got this bass last summer, and it is awesome! Often when I am asked to play bass for someone, and I have to use their bass, all I can say is "man I wish I had my fender!" The neck is perfect for me, and the bass sounds great. Overall, it plays better than a lot of other entry bass' that one might consider buying. You can't go wrong with the Fender Jazz!

I love this bass!!

By shelm

from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

I went to the Store to check out some basses, and tought I was going to purchase an Ibanez RS300 bass. But since they actually had some lefty basses in stock, the rs300 and this Fender J-bass, I could switch back and forth and try them out side by side on the same amp. The Fender sounded really so much better that the Ibanez. Too bad, could have use the extra 200 bucks in my pocket. But hey, I don't plan on buying another Bass any time soon. My moto always is: Buy the best you can afford, that way you will never be sorry. This is a great souding bass, nicely put together and it looks great . The Sustain is outstanding, I really love playing this Bass. Hard to put down. Only one negative: it is Heavy. In this one regard the Ibanez is definitely a better choice.

YES!!!

By Patrick

from Severna Park, MD

Comments about Fender Standard Jazz Bass:

This is my first bass, and in my 4 months of playing with it I have not had any problems, nor have I found anything I dislike about it. It has great tone, and it is ridiculously easy to play because of the narrow neck, is easy to modify/upgrade (I put some old EMG's on it), it's low maintanance, and it looks darn good. It's great for a beginner like me or one who is more intermediate, and even my godfather who has played for well over 30 years will still buy one if he finds a good and has money to spare. I've also played an Ibanez for about a month, then a P-bass for two, and this is my favorite.
