This Fender guitar begs and begs for you to play it. The neck and the pickups are all on point. Action is especially butter smooth. You'll start exploring frets you never normally touch. You can play blues. You can play metal. I know, I do both. And I was always a humbucker guy before this guitar. I can only imagine what a nicer amp than mine would sound like.

I know this is a MIM strat and a lot of people look down their noses at it. But look, every time I pick up this guitar, it puts a smile on my face and I want to play MORE and MORE. And this is coming from someone who isn't even very good anymore after losing touch with the guitar in college.

The black on black with cream hardware looks amazing. I feel like this guitar is 30 years older than it is, because it looks that classic. I was NEVER a black guitar guy until I saw this. I prefer'd sea foam greens and sunburts and that kinda thing. Until I met "The One" - this guitar It just feels like something you'd see slung around a guitar god from the 60s shoulder. And that feeling rubs off on you as you play it.

If you can't tell by now, I love this guitar. I've owned it for 5 years and haven't bought a single guitar in that meantime. I've owned a vintage 70s guitars, Signature Artist Guitars By Fender like The Tom Delonge, Nothing has captivated me (yet) like this black on black/cream Fender.

I loved the guitar at first, looked great, felt great. Only complaint was the heavy laquer on the neck. Held tune well. Hung it on the wall played off and on between other guitars. Then one day I picked it up and neck wood shrank and fret ends all stuck out badly. Easy fix. Then the body shrank and pick guard buckled up, had to remove some screws. Now in certain light the paint has ripples in it from body shrinking. It still plays fine but the looks took a major dive. Non of my other guitars ever did this. Alder must have not been seasoned correctly.

wow!!! this is an awesome guitar!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have a squier strat and this mim strat is a huge step up in quality materials and sound. There is little to no noise from the pickups and the neck feels smooth and extremely playable. I have had many types of guitars and we all have our favorite types, but this one to me can play all styles of music and seems the best one for me to try to solo on as well. hope this helps some one out, but you really need to get to a store and play one yourself.

Unique looking

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

For months, I couldn't decide what guitar I wanted to get, for under $500. Les Paul, Ibanez, Telecaster... never once did I consider a Strat. But I saw this beauty hanging on the wall, played it, and was sold. The appearance gives it a David Gilmour-ish vibe, and it has the tone to back it up. Stays in tune decently, with mild tremolo use. Love the 50's style logo on the headstock. Maple neck is very comfortable, my fingers fly on the fingerboard. It doesn't sound very good with high gain, but for everything else, it's all I need. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

ONE STRAT TO RULE THEM ALL!

By Matthew

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is simply this: it is the best guitar pound for pound that money can buy. I've had this guitar for a year now and nothing I've played can touch it. Fender's, Gibson's, PRS, it doesn't matter. This guitar punches way above it's price range, playing and sounding better in my opinion then guitars that are two to three times more expensive. The finish on the neck is excellent, allowing your fingers to fly across the fretboard. The finish is professional quality, and stands up well to wear and chips and dings. The Fender pickups are good, but I will probably end up replacing them with a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 in the bridge and Fender Custom Shop '69's for a more Gilmourish sound. Everything feels put together and solid. It doesn't weigh as much as other guitars, but I would get a nice leather strap for it too ward off shoulder fatigue. This is also a nice enough guitar that Straploks are a worthwhile investment. Looks-wise, it instantly draws attention whenever I pull it out of the case. Anyone who plays it raves about it. It looks an awful lot like David Gilmour's " The Black Strat", and I think that Fender is using this as an affordable version of their Gilmour Master-Built Artist Model. All in all, this is one strat to rule them all. 10 out of 5 stars. Absolutely the best. Why are you still here? Go out and buy it NOW!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

After playing all of the stratocasters in my local guitar center I wasn't very satisfied with the looks, feel, or condition of any of them aside from the $1,000+ priced ones, And I wasn't looking to spend any more than $600-700 so after seeing all of the great reviews on this one I ordered it. This guitar plays like butter and looks better than most American strats! The pickups sound great distorted or clean, The neck and fretwork are perfect, The action was perfect right out of the box, And it stays in tune even with strings that have barely been broken in. If you are looking to buy a strat that plays exactly like an American for half the price, Buy this one it will be the best decision you ever made.

    Great Guitar!

    By bob

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This strat looks good, and plays great. I would like to point out however, the one thing that deterred me from purchasing it. I really wanted 22 frets on my strat, and while the description says it does have 22 frets, if you look at the picture, it ends at the 21st.

    Best MiM Strat Ever!

    By Stephen Hendrix

    from Jacksonville, Florida

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have owned the FSR Stratocaster for about 2 months now, and it is without a doubt the best MiM Strat I have ever played, and it is even better than some American Standards. After I bought it, I did some tweaking on the bridge, installed all 5 springs in the tremolo block (I like it good and tight-stays in tune better)and replaced the 9-42 strings with 10-46. Like some of the other reviewers who have posted their comments here, I too like the "David Gilmour" blacked-out look. The only modification I may make is replacing the pick-ups with the Texas Specials or the Fat 50's or maybe even DiMarzio Velvets(have you heard them?--what a tone!) Overall I give this guitar a 4.75 on on scale of 1 to 5. If you can find one, and you are on a budget, this is the Strat you want!

I have two acoustic guitars and it was time to get my first electric. I didn't want a cheap one, but I didn't want to spend a grand a hobby just yet. Sounds awesome to me.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have wanted a strat for many years and finally I was able to go to Guitar Center in Harrisburg, PA and I was in heaven. They have an amazing variety of Fenders' and many other brands, but I knew I wanted a strat. I fell in love with this at first sight and being a Pink Floyd nut, it was the perfect fit. After waiting for what seemed like for ever.. A week.. Me and my parents went back on Saturday having been there that Monday and went straight to this on the wall. I've had it for a week and all I can say is if you want a well built strat the looks and sounds good for under a grand, this is the best you can get.

        The Black Strat :)

        By AB

        from NY, NY

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I got this baby for christmas. I went to the store and I was actually picking up an artic white MIM Strat, when suddenly I saw this on the wall and had to give it a try. Played it on a Fender Amp, and it sounded so much better from the white strat that i was considering buying. I'm not really sure what pick ups these are by Fender, but for the price, these single Coils just rock!! The whole look gives it a David Gilmour appeal to it. The sound and the aesthetics just blew me away. If you are a Gilmour fan, i suggest you give it a try, and for the price, you wont be disappointed. The neck feels really good, the controls knobs are very smooth. May be with a little set up from a pro, it can be even better!! All in all a strat that you can finally rock out on!!

A solid foundation for my classic Gilmour

        By Jeffrey

        from Manassas, VA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was looking to build a Strat that had some very David Gilmouresque features and this model was perfect. It is a great playing Strat right out of the box and I love the feel of the neck "soft C" and the frets are smooth and rounded. I did replace all of the pickups with some Fender Custom Shops in the middle and neck and a Seymour Duncan SL-5 in the Bridge just to get a little closer to the Gilmour tone. I also replaced the stock tuning machines with Fender locking tuners (just a personal choice) and added a neck pickup switch to the pick guard to add the neck in with positions 1 & 2. I don't know why Fender doesn't make this a standard feature because it really makes the guitar sound great. I know they do it on some models as an S-1 switch but I would love to see it on every Strat. Modifications aside, I played this guitar for a few months before doing the upgrades and would have been plenty happy if I had never changed a thing. This is a great guitar for the price and is every bit as good in the fit and finish department as any of my American made models.
