This Fender guitar begs and begs for you to play it. The neck and the pickups are all on point. Action is especially butter smooth. You'll start exploring frets you never normally touch. You can play blues. You can play metal. I know, I do both. And I was always a humbucker guy before this guitar. I can only imagine what a nicer amp than mine would sound like.

I know this is a MIM strat and a lot of people look down their noses at it. But look, every time I pick up this guitar, it puts a smile on my face and I want to play MORE and MORE. And this is coming from someone who isn't even very good anymore after losing touch with the guitar in college.

The black on black with cream hardware looks amazing. I feel like this guitar is 30 years older than it is, because it looks that classic. I was NEVER a black guitar guy until I saw this. I prefer'd sea foam greens and sunburts and that kinda thing. Until I met "The One" - this guitar It just feels like something you'd see slung around a guitar god from the 60s shoulder. And that feeling rubs off on you as you play it.

If you can't tell by now, I love this guitar. I've owned it for 5 years and haven't bought a single guitar in that meantime. I've owned a vintage 70s guitars, Signature Artist Guitars By Fender like The Tom Delonge, Nothing has captivated me (yet) like this black on black/cream Fender.

I loved the guitar at first, looked great, felt great. Only complaint was the heavy laquer on the neck. Held tune well. Hung it on the wall played off and on between other guitars. Then one day I picked it up and neck wood shrank and fret ends all stuck out badly. Easy fix. Then the body shrank and pick guard buckled up, had to remove some screws. Now in certain light the paint has ripples in it from body shrinking. It still plays fine but the looks took a major dive. Non of my other guitars ever did this. Alder must have not been seasoned correctly.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for over 40 years and own (or have owned) some very nice guitars over the years. I have always wanted a maple neck/fretboard Strat. I have a John Suhr Custom Classic with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard that is my #1 guitar and wanted to buy a "less expensive" Strat with a maple fretboard.

I was looking at the "Fender Standard Stratocaster, Maple Fret board Arctic White" since I've loved the guitar Jimi played at Woodstock since I was in high school. I then read a recommendation for the "Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster - Black" on one of the guitar forums.

I feel in love with the black Strat with cream colored pickup covers, knobs and switche. I figured I'd take a chance on this Mexican Strat thinking that I would have to do some major setup work after I got it.

I ordered it and had it shipped to my local Guitar Center (Englewood, Colorado - excellent store, by the way). I picked it up, unboxed it and played it. Wow, I couldn't believe it. It felt and played great. I did change the strings (only because I like pure nickel strings and heavier gauge) and did some minor setup due to the heavier gauge strings and I am blown away every time I play this guitar.

I don't particularly like the pickups although some might find them just fine. I am looking for a specific sound so ordered a set of custom pickups.

Besides that, this guitar is a gem. I do believe it's going to be my new #2 guitar. It plays better than my $4000 Les Paul!

If you are looking for an inexpensive Stratocaster that plays great out of the box and sounds decent with the included pickups, buy this guitar. I don't know if I just got lucky or if the new Mexican made Strats have improved, but this guitar is a keeper.

I would love to meet the person in Mexico who put this guitar together and shake his or her hand. What a wonderful job they did.

As a bonus, I got this guitar for 20% off during their Black Friday sale.

    Great guitar for the money

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar and a true value when compared with other choices in the $500. - $700. price range. Over the last 25 or 30 years I have owned American Strat's and Tele's and various MIM Fenders. Somehow they were all traded for other guitars. I visited my local G.C. over the Black Friday Weekend and played a few electric guitars. I was really surprised at the quality of new MIM Strat's after I played a few. Yes, this guitar is made in Mexico and not Cali but the Mexico factory is obviously producing really good stuff these days The neck and fret work are perfect, the pickups are pretty darn good and the thing just felt and played great ... Plus, it looks cool. It was on sale, I had a coupon, so I bought it. I took it home, changed strings to 10s, tweaked the truss rod and have been playing it every day since. This guitar is a home run. I was looking for a Fender at a price that wouldn't break the bank and I found it with this Strat. If you haven't played a Mexican Stratocaster in a few years, beware; If you try one, you will buy one too.

WOW!! I cannot believe I lucked out and picked this guitar. I was looking for strats in the $500-$700 range and happened to stumble upon this guitar. I have had it for a year now and it never really gets old. The quality is amazing and I feel like a better guitarist because I play it all the time! If you are looking for a strat, please look at this one first... you wont be disappointed.
