For months, I couldn't decide what guitar I wanted to get, for under $500. Les Paul, Ibanez, Telecaster... never once did I consider a Strat. But I saw this beauty hanging on the wall, played it, and was sold. The appearance gives it a David Gilmour-ish vibe, and it has the tone to back it up. Stays in tune decently, with mild tremolo use. Love the 50's style logo on the headstock. Maple neck is very comfortable, my fingers fly on the fingerboard. It doesn't sound very good with high gain, but for everything else, it's all I need. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

I just could not get the tone high enough to get the sound I wanted. Love the look has but sometimes I feel like I am playing in a cave with echo I cant stop with the knobs. Wanted to dial up the tone like my old guitar and get a clean sound with not much distortion. Any Advice?

Couldn't be happier with this Mexican Strat! Sound is just as good as any other American standard. I'm not a professional and I play this strat with a Fender mustang amp and I guarantee you it's a lot of fun! Definitely recommend it.

      First electric guitar

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have wanted a strat for many years and finally I was able to go to Guitar Center in Harrisburg, PA and I was in heaven. They have an amazing variety of Fenders' and many other brands, but I knew I wanted a strat. I fell in love with this at first sight and being a Pink Floyd nut, it was the perfect fit. After waiting for what seemed like for ever.. A week.. Me and my parents went back on Saturday having been there that Monday and went straight to this on the wall. I've had it for a week and all I can say is if you want a well built strat the looks and sounds good for under a grand, this is the best you can get.

ONE STRAT TO RULE THEM ALL!

      By

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is simply this: it is the best guitar pound for pound that money can buy. I've had this guitar for a year now and nothing I've played can touch it. Fender's, Gibson's, PRS, it doesn't matter. This guitar punches way above it's price range, playing and sounding better in my opinion then guitars that are two to three times more expensive. The finish on the neck is excellent, allowing your fingers to fly across the fretboard. The finish is professional quality, and stands up well to wear and chips and dings. The Fender pickups are good, but I will probably end up replacing them with a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 in the bridge and Fender Custom Shop '69's for a more Gilmourish sound. Everything feels put together and solid. It doesn't weigh as much as other guitars, but I would get a nice leather strap for it too ward off shoulder fatigue. This is also a nice enough guitar that Straploks are a worthwhile investment. Looks-wise, it instantly draws attention whenever I pull it out of the case. Anyone who plays it raves about it. It looks an awful lot like David Gilmour's " The Black Strat", and I think that Fender is using this as an affordable version of their Gilmour Master-Built Artist Model. All in all, this is one strat to rule them all. 10 out of 5 stars. Absolutely the best. Why are you still here? Go out and buy it NOW!

Waited almost 2 months for this to come in, but it was well worth it. Good right out of the box, and fantastic after a basic setup. Great value if your looking for a great playing, affordable, work-horse guitar.

A solid foundation for my classic Gilmour

      By

      from Manassas, VA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was looking to build a Strat that had some very David Gilmouresque features and this model was perfect. It is a great playing Strat right out of the box and I love the feel of the neck "soft C" and the frets are smooth and rounded. I did replace all of the pickups with some Fender Custom Shops in the middle and neck and a Seymour Duncan SL-5 in the Bridge just to get a little closer to the Gilmour tone. I also replaced the stock tuning machines with Fender locking tuners (just a personal choice) and added a neck pickup switch to the pick guard to add the neck in with positions 1 & 2. I don't know why Fender doesn't make this a standard feature because it really makes the guitar sound great. I know they do it on some models as an S-1 switch but I would love to see it on every Strat. Modifications aside, I played this guitar for a few months before doing the upgrades and would have been plenty happy if I had never changed a thing. This is a great guitar for the price and is every bit as good in the fit and finish department as any of my American made models.

      If you want a Black Strat . . .

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

...and you don't want to pay $5000 for the Custom Shop version, this is for you. I recommend swapping out the pickups. I put in some Jeff Lace Holy Grails and WOW! Whatever Strat you buy, seriously consider some Holy Grails. They're a bit pricey, but worth every cent. Tone, tone, TONE!

      Amazing Axe

      By

      from Victoria Texas

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I don't know if it's like this at Fender, but I worked at a manufacturer that made one product and put different names and different prices on it. I know the body is the same as the David Gilmour Custom. The neck is the same. I doubt if the pickups are the same, but the ones on this guitar sound FANTASTIC. I love this thing. Oh, and the pickguard is different... I compared this to a bunch of other guitars, some of which had humbuckers, and this one blew them away. Amazing tone. My fingers are sore. I can't quit playing it. Gotta go.

      Best MiM Strat Ever!

      By

      from Jacksonville, Florida

Comments about Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have owned the FSR Stratocaster for about 2 months now, and it is without a doubt the best MiM Strat I have ever played, and it is even better than some American Standards. After I bought it, I did some tweaking on the bridge, installed all 5 springs in the tremolo block (I like it good and tight-stays in tune better)and replaced the 9-42 strings with 10-46. Like some of the other reviewers who have posted their comments here, I too like the "David Gilmour" blacked-out look. The only modification I may make is replacing the pick-ups with the Texas Specials or the Fat 50's or maybe even DiMarzio Velvets(have you heard them?--what a tone!) Overall I give this guitar a 4.75 on on scale of 1 to 5. If you can find one, and you are on a budget, this is the Strat you want!
