I bought this Jazz bass last December 2014 and its easy to play and sounds great plus worth every penny I paid. This bass is everything I've expected and more in a Fender bass, the feel to the tone and other aspects. I made the mistake of buying cheap basses my entire life and wanted a Fender Jazz bass for a very long time and I'm very satisfied with this bass. The sound is exceptional and a beautiful guitar. The employees where super friendly and helped me with every question I asked. I would recommend the Guitar Center in Pasadena, Texas and this particular Bass to professional bass players that live in and around Houston area. The courtesy I received from the nice people at Guitar Center was exceptional and professional. This particular store is the best Guitar store I've ever seen not just for guitars but every aspect of music. I feel like I'm in Heaven when in this store. Thanks much to the employees and manager.
I've had this bass for a week now, and I've hardly been able to put it down! The FSR does not disappoint in any field. I absolutely love the natural finish with tortoiseshell pickguard. The tuning keys stay in tune flawlessly; I haven't had to re-tune since I got it, and it still has stock strings! I dropped the action to my liking and it feels extraordinary to play. The neck is one of the easiest, if not the easiest to play on I've ever experienced. The mid range growl is gorgeous, but the low end is heavier than any other jazz I've ever picked up. The volume and tone knobs are very accurate, and I can get an amazing range of sound. Fingerstyle sounds great on this bass, but it definitely feels right to slap on. This is a great bass for a great price and I definitely recommend it.
Used to play a 1969 version jazz bass in college. Just bought this one and quite impressed how good the FSR is compared to that one. Definitely worth the little extra money over the other brands. Great quality, solid sound and it played like I had never quit...which was thirty years ago.
this special run of jazz basses is worth every penny, granted I'm not the biggest fan of natural finishes, but with the color style of the pick guard, the ash wood, & amazing warm yet powerful tone you get from this bass, its easily a steal at $499. i personally made this bass my main player even though i own a candy apple red american special p bass & a hagstrom viking semi-hollow body, which the being a hard rock bassist its easy to say that the p bass gets the job done, though when i picked up & played this bass at my local GC, it simply captivated me to point of purchase after about a month. needless to say this bass lives up to every standard fender is know regardless of if its american made or not, because if every mexi jazz plays & sounds this good then call me a fan for life.
After playing several basses at guitar center, including MIA's, I picked up this bass and I was sold as soon as I started playing it. Neck is thin and easy to use, Action was great. Slap popping is a breeze. And the sound? Amazing. The bridge pick up is great for mo-town/funk and turning up the neck pickup adds warmth to it for more rock stuff. Very versatile tones. Extremely happy with this bass. Looks better than most J basses out there, and let me tell ya, the pictures just don't do it justice. Have this paired with an Ampeg SVT-CL head and a SVT 6x10 cab and the tone is unbelievable. This bass blows my old Jackson way out of the water. If you're looking for a well-built, excellent sounding bass at an affordable price, this bass is for you.
I have vintage Fenders, new Fenders, and others, and for the price, this one can't be beat. It's cheaper than a MIMI standard, yet it has the ash body! I tried it out and didn't want to put it down, so I walked out of the store with it!
Picked it up yesterday at the local GC and can't stop playing it. It sounds fantastic even without any effects. Loving it - by far the best bass I've ever played.
I have owned an American Jazz bass in the past and sold it years ago as the tone was not there for me. Last week I was at GC and noticed this MIM bass and when I lifted off the wall I realized the weight difference with the ASH body. Its a heavy bass but it plays smooth, the pickups are hot and the tone is great. I adjusted the neck, put on a set of Elixrs and changed the bridge out to a GOTOH bridge and this is now a bass I gig with. I also own Stingrays and they are great but a passive bass is great to have and it records real well. I highly recommend this bass if you are playing classic rock, blues or funk.
First off, i bought this bass used on craigs list for 300.00 dollars. it is a 2009 model and it is incredable! this is my first fender (upgraded from a squire) and im already saving for my next fender. this bass is very light, about 7 or 8 pound. One thing i was surprised about was the finish. it is little darker than it looks in the pictures.(but it still looks great) i gave this bass 5 stars for its great playability, killer tone and jaw dropping looks. easily the best bass i own!
As a fan of natural finishes, this hooked my eye right in. In my hands, it felt so right - one of the most playable necks I've ever felt (even amongst other Fender Jazz Basses). After a half-hour run-through, I went home without it. But I thought about it all weekend. Let the fever build - addicts know what I mean. Waited for a sale, then took it home, and didn't leave it alone. Adjusted the intonation and action and made it even better, making this a "solid intermediate bass." But in all honesty, after 2 years of owning this, I gotta say you should definitely replace the bridge (Dear Fender, this bridge is an embarrassment!), and maybe upgrade the pickups (they're good for home practice, but leave you more than a bit lacking in a live setting). With those upgrades, it'll approach a 5 star rating for a great price. But no matter what you use, play any instrument and you'll get more out of life.
