My Dream Bass

By MARK

from Houston , Texas

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I bought this Jazz bass last December 2014 and its easy to play and sounds great plus worth every penny I paid. This bass is everything I've expected and more in a Fender bass, the feel to the tone and other aspects. I made the mistake of buying cheap basses my entire life and wanted a Fender Jazz bass for a very long time and I'm very satisfied with this bass. The sound is exceptional and a beautiful guitar. The employees where super friendly and helped me with every question I asked. I would recommend the Guitar Center in Pasadena, Texas and this particular Bass to professional bass players that live in and around Houston area. The courtesy I received from the nice people at Guitar Center was exceptional and professional. This particular store is the best Guitar store I've ever seen not just for guitars but every aspect of music. I feel like I'm in Heaven when in this store. Thanks much to the employees and manager.

A steal

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Got this beauty at the beginning of the year.Used a GC customer appreciation coupon and got the steal of the century. After trying even American Jazz basses, when I picked this one up to try it,itwas as good if not better.I don't know if its the Ash body or what, but the sound was awesome;even the deep end sounded as good as my American P-bass.It arrived perfectly set up at the GC in Queens,N Y,whose staff by the way is excellent, and has been my 1-A bass since.I just noticed that the price has since gone up,but it is still a great deal for an intermediate or better player.

Quality Makes a Difference

By kevin

from Philly, PA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Jim Lee, author of "Funky Chops", wrote an article about the best bass for a beginner. He asks the question, "Wouldn't be awesome if 15 years from now, you were playing the exact same instrument you learned to play bass on?" He goes on to recommend purchasing a Fender Bass. I whole heartedly concur. This MIM Fender J Bass with Ash body is an incredibly affordable quality instrument. Easy to learn on, great tones, and able to perform in any environment, this is the instrument to start on if you intend on being anything beyond a garage band performer. Whether you buy this particular bass, do yourself a favor and make an investment in a quality bass. You will thank yourself later.

My new love!

By Mary

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

As a long time guitarist, I finally got a chance to play around on a friendۡs bass. Though it was only a cheap no brand for the Orient, the bug had bitten. When it came time to by my own, I knew it would have to be a Fender. Having scored well with a south of the border Fender HSS Stratocaster, I felt relatively comfortable getting a Fender Bass with similar origins. When she arrived, I inspected her with a fine tooth comb. She was as perfect as my Strat, totally flawless! The color of the wood is a bit darker than it appears in the pictures on the web, which is actually better, in my opinion. Heck, I enjoy staring at her almost as much as I enjoy playing her, sheۡs so pretty. And she plays beautifully, too. Great tone, solid feel and a bit lighter than my Stratocaster. What I didnۡt realize until after I purchased her is that itۡs a limited edition, only available through Guitar Center. Theyۡll be a sticker on the back of the headstock signifying this fact. Unlike my HSS Stratocaster, Fender J Bass does not come with a gig bag or case, but the amazing folks at Guitar Center made me a deal an a nice padded gig bag after I wrote to inquire if it came with one or not (I got the gig bag for about half price and itۡs just about as good as my Fender brand padded gig bag!). I can not say enough good about the folks at Guitar Center. Always helpful and fair. If youۡre looking to get a great quality bass but, have limited funds, you will not go wrong here. Save over a thousand bucks and get a Mexican beauty like this one. Let the kids have their Squires, stick with a real Fender and with the folks at Guitar Center. Now I gotta go lay down some fat bass lines, cats and kittens!

Classic Rock Sound

By Steve Keele

from Payson, Utah

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Earlier this year one of the tuners broke on my Ibanez. I got it repaired but realized it would be good to have a second bass. I spent some time looking in a number of music stores including an afternoon at my local Guitar Center. I must have played every bass they had. I was serching for a bass with Playability, Tone, and Looks. This bass has a beautiful natural wood finish that I love. The neck is thinner than many of the others I played and easier for my small fingers to get around. It was also set up well and easy to play. When I plugged it in the tone blew me away. I was sold. When I showed up with it to my next practice the members of my band were blown away as well.

Best Bass I've had!

By Ryan

from Saint Paul, MN

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I've owned this bass for about three years now, and I could not be happier! I actually bought another bass after this one, and ended up selling it because I never played it. I can get literally ANY tone I want out of it. I play all styles of music, and I'm able to get a Jamerson/P Bass/Motown tone, a nice high end slap/pop funk thing, fat tone, bright, dim, whatever you need, you can dial it in, and with just three knobs too! Absolutely incredible instrument, highly recommended!

Amazing Deal.

By Logan VanMoren

from Tulsa, OK

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

After playing several basses at guitar center, including MIA's, I picked up this bass and I was sold as soon as I started playing it. Neck is thin and easy to use, Action was great. Slap popping is a breeze. And the sound? Amazing. The bridge pick up is great for mo-town/funk and turning up the neck pickup adds warmth to it for more rock stuff. Very versatile tones. Extremely happy with this bass. Looks better than most J basses out there, and let me tell ya, the pictures just don't do it justice. Have this paired with an Ampeg SVT-CL head and a SVT 6x10 cab and the tone is unbelievable. This bass blows my old Jackson way out of the water. If you're looking for a well-built, excellent sounding bass at an affordable price, this bass is for you.

great deal for a sweet mexi-j bass

By Chris Lambert

from amarillo, tx

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

this special run of jazz basses is worth every penny, granted I'm not the biggest fan of natural finishes, but with the color style of the pick guard, the ash wood, & amazing warm yet powerful tone you get from this bass, its easily a steal at $499. i personally made this bass my main player even though i own a candy apple red american special p bass & a hagstrom viking semi-hollow body, which the being a hard rock bassist its easy to say that the p bass gets the job done, though when i picked up & played this bass at my local GC, it simply captivated me to point of purchase after about a month. needless to say this bass lives up to every standard fender is know regardless of if its american made or not, because if every mexi jazz plays & sounds this good then call me a fan for life.

Go for it!

By Duane Hartle

from West Valley Center, CA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Used to play a 1969 version jazz bass in college. Just bought this one and quite impressed how good the FSR is compared to that one. Definitely worth the little extra money over the other brands. Great quality, solid sound and it played like I had never quit...which was thirty years ago.

An Excellent Bass!

By Daniel

from Centerville, Indiana

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I've had this bass for a week now, and I've hardly been able to put it down! The FSR does not disappoint in any field. I absolutely love the natural finish with tortoiseshell pickguard. The tuning keys stay in tune flawlessly; I haven't had to re-tune since I got it, and it still has stock strings! I dropped the action to my liking and it feels extraordinary to play. The neck is one of the easiest, if not the easiest to play on I've ever experienced. The mid range growl is gorgeous, but the low end is heavier than any other jazz I've ever picked up. The volume and tone knobs are very accurate, and I can get an amazing range of sound. Fingerstyle sounds great on this bass, but it definitely feels right to slap on. This is a great bass for a great price and I definitely recommend it.

Great products. I was a little concerned with buying a mexican jazz bass, but have had good experiences in the past with Mexican Strats. This was no exception. Solid quality and great sound with nice playability once I set the bass up correctly.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

This was the replacement for the Ibanez SR500 that died in less than two months after purchase.

I was drawn to this first by the body and natural finish and then the pure tone of it.

So far this is the best sounding bass I own and my fellow band mates have asked me to only play this one in the studio.

I also have an Ibanez ATK300FL and a Sterling Sub, both which have their own unique tones that I love for various songs.

When the SR500 Ibanez was diagnosed as defective, the staff at my local GC recommended that I check this one out though it's MIM.

After plugging it in and playing for less than five minutes, it came home with me.

      Highly Recommend!!!

      I got more to say!!

      By Cameron!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I wrote the review 'awesomesauce' previously. I have more to say! I recently got D'Addario flatwounds on my bass and the action got adjusted as well as the bridge. The GC tech cleaned it up for me and all. This bass is even better then before. The tone is mellow and rich and the playability is amazing. Seriously people, don't let the price fool you, the list price may be lower then the Fender Standard J Bass but this bass is, well, simply, better. The body is lighter then Alder and the finish just tops it off. Thet tuning machines on mine are sturdy and lock on tone. The stock pick ups are better then I expected, going through a B20 Acoustic amp this bass sounds beautiful. If I had 3,000 dollars I would buy this bass still, and obviously and American Standard, but both sound amazing. I love this bass and I know the quality is the best. I would recommend to any bass player. I'm intermediate and I would play this bass probably as much as the $1,300 american standard.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I have vintage Fenders, new Fenders, and others, and for the price, this one can't be beat. It's cheaper than a MIMI standard, yet it has the ash body! I tried it out and didn't want to put it down, so I walked out of the store with it!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Having recently transitioned from a life of being a drummer since my teens (many decades ago), I was learning on a Squire Affinity Jazz Base for while, but I had seen this model in my local GC store and had spent since time working with it in the shop. A recent price reduction was all it took to pull the trigger. It's hard to categorize, but the feel of this FSR Jazz Bass was so much different. As a car nut, I'd say it was like going from a Toyota Corolla to a Mercedes or BMW, if that relates. Now, there's noting really wrong with the Squire - it plays well, makes a good tone, and is an all around good instrument. But the FSR's neck makes this thing much faster and so easy to play that I don't want to put it down. The tone and sustain are significantly better than the Squire, and I'd have no problems at all with holding down the bottom with the FSR in a live or recorded session.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I use this bass from the comfort of my home so I can't speak for performers when I say that this is one of THE best basses I have ever played. The neck allows your hand to glide like butter and the overall play-ability is fantastic. The only problem I've had with it is the bridge saddles move around when changing the strings so it needs re-adjustment, but a Allen wrench fixes that problem just fine. Overall the bass is a solid 8.5/10 and I highly recommend buying one if you're looking for a mid-level bass.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I started playing bass around the age of thirteen, I started with lower end basses like stagg and First Act(don't recommend first act) anyway, I bought this bass and fell in love, the action, the sound, the feel, It's a beautiful instrument. For the price it really can't be beaten, it may not be an american made Fender, but I promise it's completely worth the price, and you'll be playing it for years to come.

        Bass-ic. Basic. Get it?

        By Steven

        from Chelmsford, MA

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Wow. Just wow. My main instrument is the guitar, but I had played basses in the past and figured I'd give it a go. Soon enough, I learned how to play the bass, transferring over what I knew how to play from the guitar. I had started on a cheap starter Squier P-Bass, and after the neck warped and the bass was deemed "unfixable and unplayable", I decided to get a new bass. I picked up this bass, first being interested in just the color. It's so much more than just the color. In general, compared to the other basses I have played, this bass seems to define a medium among all. It still seems to be the most basic bass I've played. Not too much of a punch, yet still gets the job done. I love this bass.
