Great feel and sound out of this quality bass without the price tag of the American Standard. Electronics are solid but it seems like linear taper pots would be better suited for volume knobs. Overall quality is very good and it sounds great with flats. Fit and finish is very nice. Highly recommend this bass.

This could have been better with more attention to detail during assembly. Electronics sound cheap (volume control adjustment is very touchy and poor shielding). Like most reviewers said it would make a good platform for a great bass. That said, you have to upgrade quite a few things to get what you want. I have played some Squires that are the same quality at half the price.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I had bought a G n L bass and when I got it it was not in any working order because of the wiring, maybe I received a Friday product? Well I called the Musicians friend help line and they did an exchange for the fender; well....... I will respect that it_ was a blessing in disguise. this Jazz ASH is a rocker and a easy going bass right out of the box. The day I recieved it I grabbed it and went to an audition hoping this Bass would do its thing and it did...Just gonna put different strings on and lower the 4 closer to fret board. Oh and look is amazing, which I had doubts when ordering ...

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

Having recently transitioned from a life of being a drummer since my teens (many decades ago), I was learning on a Squire Affinity Jazz Base for while, but I had seen this model in my local GC store and had spent since time working with it in the shop. A recent price reduction was all it took to pull the trigger. It's hard to categorize, but the feel of this FSR Jazz Bass was so much different. As a car nut, I'd say it was like going from a Toyota Corolla to a Mercedes or BMW, if that relates. Now, there's noting really wrong with the Squire - it plays well, makes a good tone, and is an all around good instrument. But the FSR's neck makes this thing much faster and so easy to play that I don't want to put it down. The tone and sustain are significantly better than the Squire, and I'd have no problems at all with holding down the bottom with the FSR in a live or recorded session.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

I've played bass for over 30 years and have had a variety. I wanted the Ash jazz bass and read hundreds of opinions regarding where it was made at. I was expecting to pay$1800-$2000 dollars for a good bass. This bass was 1/3 of the price, so I took a gamble. The quality is as good as any American made. The Ash body can only be told it is not 1 piece by looking at the very bottom. It is booked marked better than any electric I've owned to date. The frets are even along the edge with no high spots or sharp edges. The volume and tone controls are even without "flat" spots. The pickups are not bad and I will replace them with some Dimarzios but for the average player they will work just fine. Say what you want about the Mexican basses but if they are all like this one they are a great bargain. I did have to set the truss rod, action height and intonation but that is something I prefer to do myself. It took less than an hour. Shipping was fast but I was a little surprised that it wasn't wrapped in bubble wrap or something. Fortunately, it wasn't damaged. I think it's a good bass that looks and plays as great if not better than my other Fenders, Rickenbacher or Schecter.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass:

This was the replacement for the Ibanez SR500 that died in less than two months after purchase.

I was drawn to this first by the body and natural finish and then the pure tone of it.

So far this is the best sounding bass I own and my fellow band mates have asked me to only play this one in the studio.

I also have an Ibanez ATK300FL and a Sterling Sub, both which have their own unique tones that I love for various songs.

When the SR500 Ibanez was diagnosed as defective, the staff at my local GC recommended that I check this one out though it's MIM.

After plugging it in and playing for less than five minutes, it came home with me.

              Highly Recommend!!!

I was looking for a Fender Jazz bass for some time and almost hit the buy button for a Squire VM Jazz when I saw this go on sale. I know everyone loves the Squire but this justified the upgrade to MIM. Musicians Friend were pleasant to deal with over the phone and the bass arrived a few days later.

Got this as it reminded me of the USA Jazz bass I learned on. I am loving it, I love the fundamental that the ash body provides and the neck is quick and fast. The I have recorded a lot with it, and it has that sit in the mix but also stand out in the mix Jazz Bass sound.

Great products. I was a little concerned with buying a mexican jazz bass, but have had good experiences in the past with Mexican Strats. This was no exception. Solid quality and great sound with nice playability once I set the bass up correctly.
