When looking for the right guitar my enthusiasm towards alternative rock with great clean tones here and sold crunch and distortion there led me towards this Jazzmaster! (That and Lee Renaldo.) It looks great, plays great, feels great and sounds great! I hadn't been putting much time into my craft as of late but this guitar has renewed my vigor and is now my number one. Can't wait to take it to the stage. Only thing left to get tech savvy about is the whammy bar which I've read is not uncommon among Jazzmasters to be loose until you figure out how to adjust it. No biggie. Still couldn't be happier with this guitar!

The thing that bugs me about this is product is that the specs on gc and musician friend website shows this jazzmaster loaded with Fender custom shop pups. After I got off the phone with fender and was told that it wasn't loaded with custom shop pups I chose to inspect it when I got it to my studio I inspected it the pups doesn't have the custom shop Id on them like all my other custom shop pups so I hate to say it but looks like false advertisement on the merchants part to me I will be taking this guitar back

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

This is a fantastic guitar. For the price I was prepared for a full mod but found that I don't want to change a thing. The pickups are hot and make great punk, alternative and rock sounds! I have on occasion knocked the high E string off the saddle but not while actually playing and it's no bother to just put it back in place. So the sound and electronics are top notch, exactly what I wanted with no mods. Now the looks and finish. Oh man, I love the looks of this thing and the finish is excellent from the frets to the neck to the flawless paint looks amazing. I find good in both gloss and satin necks, I really dig the gloss on this one and I don't find it sticky at all. The body is resonant and I just really can't find a thing that I would change. LOVE IT! Great job Fender and thanks for the killer deal MF!

This thing feels and plays great! Took it right out of the box and I've never been happier. Only down side is the bridge. It's pretty cheap and you're gonna wanna change it. It sets the strings unevenly which can cause tuning and neck problems. Other than that the sound on this thing is killer and I highly recommend it anyone looking for a solid guitar!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

Great Guitar. I play a lot of surf and the tone is excellent. Everybody knows the bridge's on Fender Jazzmasters are horrible though. This is a problem with Fender and not Musicians Friend. My Bridge broke after 2 months. It's too bad because Fender makes quality products but the bridges on JMs are so awful. If you get this guitar my only advice would be to plan on replacing the stock bridge with something else, personally I'm going with a mastery bridge which adds another 150 to the price of the guitar. You can find much cheaper bridge replacements but I can't speak on behalf of their quality. Good luck!

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

A fun and relatively inexpensive addition to the stable that nobody really needs, but I'm glad I got this. There are interesting over tones to this instrument that I'll attribute to the wacky tremolo.

I own 13 guitars from Gibson and Fender to Epiphone and Ibanez. This guitar looks great, plays great and sounds fantastic. Don't expect a vintage sound but do expect some heavy tones and good vibrations.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

Great guitar. Really easy to play. Feels good in your hands not too heavy. The only thing are the stock pickups. I normally change my pickups anyway. But out of the box it was pretty weak sounding. Pop in some SD and now everything is great. My new favorite.

Got it, nothing worked, jammed the selector a bit and the bridge pup worked but not the neck. Pulled pickguard off, they never wired the neck pickup to begin with. How this passed QC I have no idea. Returning for another. Fender really screwed up on this, as there is no way this should have passed if there was really any kind of testing.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

Here's the deal. One beautiful guitar. Setup was doggy. Took off strings, Dr. Duck oil for the fretboard, adjusted the neck to .003" because I'm not playing slide, set the harmonics and wow. Super nice guitar for the price. P/U's hotter than I expected but are begging for an upgrade. Bridge and saddles are flaky. Spent a few bucks on the style with grooves which keeps the string in place and allows better alignment.

If you unpack, plug and play you might not be happy. If you TLC this baby you'll wind up with a nice playing, awesome looking rig that is worthy. Especially if you need spares for different tunings.

Comments about Fender Special Edition Blacktop HH Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

BLACKTOPS do not get the love they deserve, either from Fender fans or the guitar community at large. Fenboys will allow a single bucker on their instrument, but all-bucker Fenders, even with five position switches for single coil tones, are frowned upon as not real Fenders. Meanwhile, the larger guitar community has been skeptical of Fender's humbucker offering for over 50 years. Blacktops, I believe, were designed to address this perception head on. You get throaty humbucker sounds and jangly Fender tones but in all fairness to the Blacktop critics (and tele custom critics before them) the inside coil tones aren't all the way there nor are the bucker tones all the way crunchy. They are darker tones, rich and complex. This guitar translates dissonant chords better than les pauls and strats. It seems darker than my Blacktop Strat, maybe its the bigger size. The jazzmaster is a big guitar, man. And with its full size neck (most jag bodies are short scale) it is an imposing instrument. As for that jag shape, to me its a must have in any solid body guitar collection. But every guitar needs its niche, and darker than a strat while sweeter than a les paul puts thr jazzmaster in its own lane. However, for the player who can afford one guitar only and needs both fender and Gibson tones, you can get by on both ends with a jazzmaster. The red stripe is darker in person so its a more subtle design element than it appears regardless of your opinion on it. Build quality is super nice on mine, so solid and just screams production line skills. The setup on mine was perfect...low but not so low that you cant dig in. This guitar can take bigger strings easily so i will add variety soon by trying 11s while keeping the BT Strat with the 10s it currently has. I may also mod mine with chrome pickup covers and p-bass style gnarled chrome knobs. But bottom line people take advantage of the guitarworld's indifference to the blacktop line. A BT Tele is next! };=D
