Comments about Fender Special Edition '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Picked this up at a reduced price from a local GC. Rangoon Red, which does have orange/yellow in it. The tone is a very clear vintage sound -- a sound I was looking for. Don't expect Jimi, but if you're looking for a clear, sweet vintage tone, the vintage pickups are wonderful. Despite being single coils, they haven't picked up my fluorescent lights. Very pleased with the neck and pickups. A clear, undistorted Strat is a nice break from metal grunge. Great country/rockabilly/50's sounds.

Comments about Fender Special Edition '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Building on my previous review, I have found the optimum set up. I have two of these guitars. They are great. I prefer these over the American Strats, as said before, because of the frets. I used to be wary of the Mexi-Strats, but no more. An old friend of mine, a famous session player once told me that Fenders are like Chevy's: Plug them in and they run. These guitars are no exception. That said, Strats are funky. They take time to set up right. I had my luthier take care of a very minor fret buzz issue on one of them. I put five springs on them to make them hard tails. If you don't know how to set up your guitar, let them do it at the shop. You won't be sorry, and you'll enjoy the instrument much more. I will be using these guitars on tour because if something happens to them, they will be relatively easy to replace. And because I like them.

Comments about Fender Special Edition '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The only surprise I had with this guitar was the color. I was expecting a deeper red. The "Rangoon red" is sort of orange red. The color is growing on me though. It is, after all, a real Fender Strat!!!

Comments about Fender Special Edition '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I am not going to throw out platitudes like "great guitar" or "best ever" because I own quite a few guitars, some old, some new. Here is what I like about the guitar: I like the frets. I do not like medium jumbo frets on Fenders. Those frets make it difficult to set the right action. The frets on these guitars are similar to those on my '72 Tele Custom and ''82 Tele black and gold. I love the colors. American strats have very boring colors. I have an American Strat, great guitar, but boring color. I love the sound, perfect for R&B. (Tele's for funk.) I am quite surprised with the MIM guitars. Fender seems to be paying attention to quality in Mexico. I guess they have to keep up with Gibson's Epiphone line. Anyway, I can afford more expensive guitars, but I will be using this guitar if the latest project I worked on asks me to tour, which is why I bought two. What I don't like about the guitar: Frets above the 12th can be a bit 'buzzy' at low action. I hate that the truss rod is at the base of the neck. I know Fender wants to go traditional on this, but please stop it.

Basically, I bought the guitars for the frets and the colors. The colors are great. And, I made sure to inquire about the body wood, which GC assured me was alder. The electronics seem to be ok. The final word will come on that after they've been used awhile. Single coil pickups are great. Humbuckers muddle the subtleties in the chords too much: A 7 chord sounds so much better on single coils.

        50's Special Edition Strat

Comments about Fender Special Edition '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

In my 60's, I recently yearned for yesteryear and wanted to form a Surf instrumental band. So nothing would do but a Strat. I went to Guitar Center to see what I could find. I found the 50's Special Edition Strat in Apple Green. With a maple neck and fingerboard in a beautiful Apple Green color it was perfect for my Surf adventure. I plugged it into a Fender tube amp and was instantly transported back to the time I was A young lad immersed in the cool sounds of early Surf Music. I quickly tried a few other Strats for a comparison but nothing was as sweet. It's truly a beautiful guitar in every way. When I'm home I play it drenched In reverb. I own a custom Billy Bo a $5000 Les Paul Custom and other very nice guitars, but this is my favorite. A true winner. Thank you Guitar Center
