Best Bang for the Buck

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

I purchased a 1997 Fender Made in Mexico P-Bass off of Craigslist. It was in like new condition and I was very happy with the purchase; however I thought that perhaps I could improve the tone with some new pick ups. I did a lot of research and decided to follow the recommendation of Bestcovery.com and get the 62's. WOW! The difference is incredible. I brought the bass into a small guitar shop to have the work done. The tech and I did a little before and after test to see if they would make a significant difference, and they exceeded both of our expectations. The best part is how they actually affect the tone control knob. It really works now. Before you could hardly tell the difference when adjusting tone on the bass. Now you can. I highly recommend the pick ups. They deliver!

This is one of those time I got it right !

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

Playing bass since 1972. Had quite a few basses but the one out of all of them, I miss the most was my 1972 P-Bass. I had it with the REAL 1962 P-Bass pickups and a damarzio Jazz that gave me a lot of tones in and around the P-Bass Pickup. Of course I traded it in but for a Custom Shop P-J that played like butter, BUT, never cave back that growl and Smokey Motown sound when needed. Tried the Seymour qrt pound and it worked well but still did not get me where I wanted. The Custom Shop pickup was actually better but I was back where I started. I finally traded that bass in for a Fender Precision Delux Special ( Yes Mexico made ) that had the growl I was looking for. But the Smokey tones and/or punchy bottoms with growling mids were still missing. SO in a last effort to get closer, I tried these Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickups. When I started installing them, I still had a feeling I was again wasting my time. But after I plugged into the amp, WOW. THERE IT WAS! The tones started revealing themselves. I had to learn the positioning of the Tone control again but it was worth it. I played that bass for an Hour before I realized how much fun it was to play bass like this again. For me to explain it, it would be like this. You can get full bass tones from Motown punchy but smooth, Wood tones and lows, mids and highs are all controllable. Best of all, the growl is back and when I play along with tunes I find myself hearing things I'm doing that had to be corrected now because I can hear it all again. Let me tell you this Mexican P-Bass is a real bass. It plays extremely well ( after setting it up )and the noiseless Jazz pickup works good enough to leave alone for now. But this 62 Fender P-pickup made it well worth keeping. I'm past that trading in thing, you never get what it's worth and most of the time you fool yourself into thinking you did well. I miss the 72 fender but that is starting to fade now. Do yourself a favor, try changing pickups. DO NOT let anyone tell you they don't make much of a difference. If that was true, then why do all the Pro's do it? Let me tell you, I'm done with this one. This is what I been looking for, for years. I aint going through that again. This Bass stays.

Upgraded my MIM P Bass

By Raymond Quinn

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

I got a great deal a a used Mexican Fender Precision Bass. After a setup, the bass played very well, but the tone didn't compare to other higher end American made P basses. This pickup was recommended by some pro bass players and my luthier. The pots in the bass were fine. Now this bass sounds as good as any P Bass I've ever heard. If you are looking for the real thing, this is it.

Good Value

By Jude

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

I put these in my new MIM Pbass and it has improved my tone and clarity exponentially. I'm now able to dial in a thick warm thump, a throaty high-mid growl, and with flatwounds,a clean psudo-double bass tone which has been great for studio work. Enormous, buttery lows, articulate, warm mids, and more than adequate highs. These make a pbass sound like a pbass should. Only complaint is that they came in a box that looked nothing like the one pictured. Great buy. Highly reccomended.

GREAT PRODUCT

By JonnyMai

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

I am using my friends squire precision bass for the time being and I figured I would put some better pickups in it. The 62's did wonders! awesome tone! I didn't think it could improve it as much as it did. Also installed some new fender pots. I would recommend this to any owner of a Mexican fender, squire, or even a USA fender if you are looking for a better tone.

Like finding an old friend

By Jack Bryant

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

What a wonderful surprise to find that sound again. I had a '62 P-Bass that I lost to hard times and a pawn shop. Thirty years later I bought an Elite P-Bass but didn't care for the sound. After I went through some EMG's, I put these originals on it and found the sound of my old P-Bass. Pure and punchy. Fantastic!

What would you expect?

By Alberto Sampson

from New York,New York

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

This is what it's all about. Classic P Bass tone. Deep, punchy and smooth. The versatility of the P Bass knows no bounds. The pu's I had before were high output garbage. My only regret is that I didn't replace the pu's sooner.

Wow, wow, and wow

By benso

Comments about Fender Original 1962 P Bass Pickup:

Do what I did. Find the best Squier P-Bass you can. In ten minutes I unscrewed the pickguard, cut off the old strings, de-soldered the stock Squier pickup and re-soldered the Original P-Bass pickup and put the pick guard back on and restrung MONSTER TONE. I am so impressed. I thought it would be a bit better -- it's a new bass. Such an improvement.
