Overview

Throughout a long career that started with hardcore punk and flourished first with Sunny Day Real Estate and then the Foo Fighters, there has really only been one main instrument for melodic yet hard-hitting bassist Nate Mendel-his 1971 Precision. Fender now brings you the Nate Mendel P Bass, modeled after his beloved, battle-hardened instrument.

The Nate Mendel P Bass shares the same subtly idiosyncratic and distinctive features as the original, with special body contours, extra-slim neck and nut width, a lightly worn Candy Apple Red finish with a black pickguard, a powerful Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound split single-coil pickup, Fender Hi-Mass Bridge bridge for rock-solid sustain and stability, and Mendel's signature on the headstock. It also comes with a spare neck plate engraved with a special hybrid Foo Fighters/Fender logo and a deluxe gig bag.

Comments about Fender Nate Mendel Precision Bass:

I guess that I can call myself experienced. I started playing around 2008.
This is my fourth Fender bass and the second Fender P Bass. I've had a slew of basses from other makers over the years but I've always loved the Fender P sound. The problem, if you want to call it that, was that the standard P neck was just a hair too fat to be comfortable for me. Especially when playing extended or multiple sets. So I'd play my Jazz basses most of the time. I put off trying the NM bass figuring that the neck spec was so subtle a change that it wouldn't matter. Man was I wrong! The neck feels like it was custom fit to my hand. The rest of the guitar is also outstanding with one exception, maybe two. Hence the four stars.
One, the tuning machines are okay for home or practice but they are tough to really dial in. Just as you're about there....you find it overshoots and you have to go a half turn back before it suddenly drops. This has been widely reported. I replaced mine with Hipshot's and a Hipshot Tuner extender on the E string. Make sure you get the ones for a vintage Fender or the holes won't line up! The other issue I experienced and also read about is a batch of frozen truss rods. I brought my brand new NM bass into my local GC for a set up and the truss rod snapped when the tech tried to adjust it. KUDOS to Anthony who got me a replacement within a week. So buy it. Love it, Play it but check that truss rod right away.
The replacement is super and once I put the Hipshot tuners on it I don't want to put it down. Even with replacing the tuners as I did you will have an amazing guitar for under 1,1000 dollars U.S.

Comments about Fender Nate Mendel Precision Bass:

The Nate Mendel P Bass is a solid bass. A nice Ash body, Duncan pickup and with a relic finish and the fat P Bass neck make this bass sounds awesome! I play it quite an it and just love the sound and feel of this instrument.
