After playing around with a couple of different modeling amps at the GC store today I finally tried this one. Some of the reviews for the other two that I tried (both 30w) were true. There were problems with the volume knob on the Line 6. Move it a couple of millimeters clockwise and it will take your head off! Seriously, try it! I found it harder to figure out how to get the sound I wanted. The Peavey had really cheap knobs and was just about as hard to figure out. In all fairness, I have heard great things about those models as well and would probably learn how to use most of the features with time. The thing that was so remarkable about the Fender was this: with the knobs that it has, you can see "where you are." It was very easy within a matter of minutes to dial it in. Right there in the store without using a manual or spending hours. It really had alot of power and sounded great. It may not have as many options, but personally I was overwhelmed by too many options on the other models and probably would not have used 80 percent of them. I am planning on buying one in the December.

This amp sounded the best in store among the others in similar category in terms of price , features etc. Needs considerable amount of tweaking to get a desired tone. Good for playing along with backing tracks through aux in. However , the amp has nothing to offer when it comes to recording. The sound output appeared really thin. Like I said , a great practice amp but if you are looking for great tones for your recording projects, look elsewhere.

Positive Review of this Solid Practice Amplifier

By Steve

from Lafayette, IN

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased the Mustang 2 last month it is a very solid practice amp. The tuners and onboard settings work great. It doesnt have an onboard metronome or drumbeats but I am able to run my basic gdec which does through it or can use digital pedals for that. It has a great sound with nice power. Sounds good at low volume or high and has plug for headphones which I am sure my neighbors appreciate. If you get this amplifier take sometime to download the software and create a fender fuse account online which opens up a tidal wave of presets from regular players and more famous guitar players such as Jeff Beck. You can download the presets and try working them out yourself. Its great pracitce. You can also easily run a line in from your computer, stereo or mp3 and have great backing tracks to work against. This is terrific for getting better at your timing and its alot of fun. Its more fun than playing guitar hero and with this you will become a better real guitar player. This amp is solid for recording and studio work. The online presets which require a computer to access get a bit too complicated for live playing but the on board settings are decent and this amp has a line out if needed. I prefer a more basic amp with a few pedals for rehersals and jams which allows me to manually dial in settings on the fly and keep it basic. Overall this is a very solid practice amp and combined with the fender fuse program will give you many options to improve. The woodshed is not so basic anymore. Now you have a world class practice amp with an unlimited amount of presets and ability to play any backing track to. Your practice time will be supercharged. .

Mustang needs taming

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I just picked up the new Mustang 2 at Guitar Center yesterday. Nice looking amp. Price was very good. First impressions are excellent. Very good sound. nice volume. Good sound with a simple but effective choice of amp models. I am impressed with this amp. I will be hooking it up to the computer today. I really like the sound of this amp. The modeling features are simple and straight forward. This little baby is a real value in my mind. I would recommend this amp. Modeling amps have come a long way. Good job Fender.

The Mustang II ended my search

By Joe Faraldi

from New Jersey

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing since I was 12 years old (41 now). I've owned more amps than I can remember from valve to solid state to hybrid to modeling. Some were great and others, meh. I wanted a Fender platform that could work with external pedals but most of the modelers I've used in the past didn't cut it. The Mustang totally nailed what I needed. Just amazing base tones that react perfectly with playing dynamics. Models that are very true to form. And thankfully, a front end that can handle pedals. In fact, I bought an MXR Classic Overdrive (a GC exclusive) and it makes the Fender and "British" models on the Mustang sing. Seriously very happy with this amp. Gigs perfectly as well (mic'd and non-mic'd depending upon the room). FUSE software is incredible as well. I record direct into Apple Logic and it works very well. Levels are perfect and the emulation is dead on. Fender hit a home run with this amp. I hear there may be a 212 version coming out. If it does, I will absolutely buy it. Great job, Fender!

Easy to use, sounds great.

By Ryen

from Bloomington, IN

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this as a Christmas gift, and I could not be more thrilled with it. I was using a Digitech modeling pedal before this (the RP80), and that sounded ok when coupled with my beat up Frontman 65R, but the Mustang II blows that combo away easily. Choosing and editing presets is a breeze, and the sound quality on just about all of the settings is amazing (aside from metal, but I never play that). It take some tweaking when you switch between guitars (a Strat will sound much different through this than will a Les Paul, as it should), but that's not a complaint so much as it is a fact of life. Whenever I've done recording, there's always been someone far more qualified than me handling it, so I've had some difficulties with the included software (Amplitube and Ableton), but nothing a little investigating can't solve. There is so much to do with this amp, it's unbelievable. Fender really has done itself a great service with this amp. You might not mistake any of its settings for their real counterparts, but you'll have so much fun with it, you won't care.

Fender Mustang II

By JB

from San Diego, Ca

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp to use on smaller gigs, or gigs where I didnt want to take my boogie. I have used it on 3 jobs and I really like it. I dont use the effects live, just my pedal board. I get sparkle, crunch, sing, sustain, everything I need. I have been onto the Fuse site and it is very cool. Like everything, you can dial up something that sounds great in the bedroom and it just doesnt work live. That said the Fuse site lets you do lots of things you cant get on the amp controls. I do mike it live. Bonus for the working or semi-working player...it is light as a feather. Hard to believe such a big sound comes out of it. Great value!

Best amp for it's Price Range

By Frank Cheatham

from Highland Springs, VA

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

The thing that puts this amp over the edge is the ability to program it with the FUSE software. I was not too impressed with the presets but after tinkering with the FUSE software, I was able to get sounds that I like. Also was able to get cool sounds from the Fender online Community. Great amp, great price!

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Im not an expert at this stuff but i know a little. I bought this amp at my local gc and i loved it sounded amazing. I loved all the amps built in and that i could make my own sound then save it on the amp. my only drawback was the loudness it was plenty loud just not quite loud enough to over power my drummer so i sadly retuned the amp.=( ps.Sorry for the spelling.

The Mustang amps are the best modeling amps at any price. Light weight compared to tubes and much less expensive!!! I traded in my Line6 modeling amp for a Mustang III. I have no regrets....

WOW

By Jacob J.

from Mason, Ohio

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is awesome! I went to Guitar Center looking for a small tube amp when my eyes settled on a Carvin SX 300 solid state amp head and a Fender 2X12 Cabinet... i was $75 short of it though, and was directed by an employee towards this... I had heard great things about it, but had never used one before... So i tried it and LOVED IT! I bought one, took it home, and messed around with the presets. I was at first hesitant because it was a Solid State combo, and I have had some bad experiences with them. the Line 6 Spider I didn't cut it. Then, I played a VOX VT 15. although not a solid state, this amp hummed in the background too much. This amp does NOT hum very much even with the gain all the way up! the tonal range is so wide it can be used to play any kind of music. The amp is light enough to be carried easily, and is loud enough to be mic'd up and played at a gig. This is deffinately the BEST Solid State amp that i have ever played. I would easily reccomend this to anyone.

Fender Hit a Home Run with This One

By Mike Miller

from Edmond Ok

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I travel a lot in my job and I was looking for a small practice amp that I could take with me. I went to GC and auditioned several amps and I ended up buying the Mustang II, I almost bought the Mustang I for it's size, but I felt that the 12in speaker in the Mustang II handled the lower frequencies better. I own a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and a ton of pedals for the house. I wasn't expecting much from this little amp, but I gotta say I was blown away with the tone of this amp. Honestly, I wasn't never much into modeling amps, but this little amp rocks!!!! I'm not sure what technology Fender used in this little amp, but in my opinion it is far superior to anything on the market now. I was shocked at just how much of a real overdriven tube sound this little amp produces. I love the fact that everything can be customized on my laptop with the Fender Fuse software. If you have not looked at modeling amps in a while, give this one a try, I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

Time machine!

By Jerry Crosley

from Garden Valley, Idaho

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

More than four decades ago, I played rhythm guitar with a couple of Brit bands, in Europe. Reverbs ran on recording tape loops, amps had tubes, and that danged high E string broke every 15 minutes. Then.........I didn't touch a guitar for 38 years, until a couple of years ago. Today, after the failure of a simple, basic amp that I've been using, I bought the Mustang III from GC. I'd done my homework on the net, took advice from some professionals, and tried it out in the store with a Les Paul. Then I took it home and began to experment. First, an Ovation acoustic/electric which produced tones I didn't know the instrument was capable of. Then I plugged in a recent acquisition, a Gretsch semi-acoustic, and proceeded to relive some wonderful memories from the late 50's and early 60's. I can't give you comparisons with all of the hi-tech stuff out there, but I can tell you that the Mustang III produces sounds from the time of the origins of rock and roll. I know, 'cause I was there.

I have had, still have, many amps most fenders. I have giged in some capacity for 20+ yrs. The mustang 40w stands up for rehearsal and at the gigs, sounds great , has balls, and I can get the tweak'd Fender sounds of my previous amps...all in one....very nice.

Great for cleans..but....

By Tyler

from Anonmous:)

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Iv had this amp for a year know, and im impressed with the clean tone. The fender twin reverb really sings through my guitars(ibanez rg4ex1 and esp ltd f-50).But when u turn on a distorted setting...well....it is so weak and muddy it gives NO definition to any of our notes...pinch harmonics sound horrid. Also most of the effects are horrible. The reverb, compressor, and pitch shifter are the only one's i use.If you play jazz amd clean stuff this is for you.If you play Hard rock/metal like i do,i say go elsewhere. If u have the money,go buy a peavey vypyr 75 watt for 100 more,it sounds amzing,on clean and distortion.Another thing about this amp is it may seem loud alone, but with drummer or other amps, its so not able to keep up.Go with Peavey vypyr 75 or even a line 6 75 watt

Fun Toy

By Randy Francis

from Warner Robins, GA

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

For jamming and rehearsing it is so much fun. The models, effects, and the layout of the functions are great. It is small and light which is good and bad. The disappointment is that it is not that powerful for a $200 amp. It claims to be a 40 watt amp but if you read the specs that is past the clean range of the power amp (5%THD), which means the headroom is running out. It is an honest 25 or 30 watts. If it was much more it would bounce all over because it is so light, which implies other things.

Great Product!

By Jonathon McCorkle

from Owosso , Michigan

Comments about Fender Mustang II 40W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I play all the time, Around at the local Pubs, Churches, and jam with the occasional few. Before this amp i had a Peavey Studio Pro 40, which i purchased back in 1986. I would have to say the tone coming from this thing is on par with that amp ( And they dont make them like the used to anymore.. ). Ive taken this amp to a couple gigs already within the past couple weeks, It sounds great and is loud enough for a regular or bigger pub, and ive mic'd it for a larger venue ( Stadium ) and it worked just fine ( you gotta adjust your effects for it being mic'd tho, but thats understandable. So far my bands have liked it and i have loved it! Its a powerful amp , with many settings to adjust with its computer program. ( You can literally change the settings as if it were a amp head like marshall, Vox, etc.. ) I would suggest this amp to anyone within this price rance, plus it comes with a 5 year warranty.
