Don't let the small price or small speaker size fool you into thinking this is some cheap gimmick. This amp is serious, and is the BEST deal going in amplifiers right now! I have many amps, big, expensive amps, and many effects pedals, and this amp is more fun and easier to set up and use than all of them. It has excellent sound quality, feels real sturdy and looks handsome too. The amp is simple to use to modify sounds, and the presets are actually usable. But the REAL fun starts when you use the FUSE software, connect the amp to the pc with the usb cable, and really dig in to the huge amount of effects and amp models. Each effect can be modified just like a real effects pedal, and so can the amps. You actually have more control over the effects than you do in most multi-effects pedals! Being able to save and store a near infinite amount of patches on the pc to be transfered to the amp at any time is just awesome. Not to mention the FUSE online community where you can upload your patches, and download others from fellow Mustang users. The amp is loud enough to get the job done too! The only reason I would give up my Mustang 1 would be to upgrade to the larger Mustang II, but I am quite happy at the moment with the Mustang 1 because it's not too small, yet small enough to be portable. Now I can go to jams without lugging around several effects or big, bulky multi-effect units. To beat all, it comes with a 5 yr transferable warranty! What are you waiting for!?!?!

Well the Fender Mustang 1 guitar amplifier is kind of cool and I liked it at first but then as I played it with my Fender Stratocaster I began to think the distortion sounds weren't too great. But please don't get me wrong it has a guitar tuner programed in it and surf rock sounds and other groovy sounds and it is a digital aged amplifier.

Worth its weight in Gold

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This Amp is the best amp in its class. So much more features and functionality than any other practice/modeling amp. Been playing for 15 years, and this is the only piece of gear that has ever really suprised me. Buy it if you want a practice amp. Plenty Loud enough, amp settings are great, and ability to modify the settings gives this amp a 10 out of 10.

Best $100 Amp Period

By John

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is obviously not a pro amp, but at this price it cannot be beat whatever your purpose for needing it. It is a full USB device so if you want to record your guitar into Garageband or Logic, you do not need to buy an additional USB Audio interface. All of the internal effects will be transmitted straight into Garageband. The FUSE software allows you to create custom setups with effects including a compressor. You can then save the settings to the amp as a preset and use the exact settings when not connected to the computer. The amp models sound pretty good and the speaker is clear and loud. This amp sounds great for a loud clean tone and a slightly hot blues lead tone. I am not into metal so I cannot comment on the heavily distorted sounds. There are quite a few effects built right in including the Vibratone effect. The reverbs are surprisingly good. For a rocking amp with built in USB audio out, it is hard to beat this at all. Buy and enjoy the jeepers out of it!

If you don't get one of these you're crazy!

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Got mine earlier this week. I've tried out (bought and later sold) a bunch of "practice" amps and I have to say, this is a new standard. I do still have a Vibro Champ XD for a tuber (small studio/home), but the only times I've turned it on lately is to compare with the Mustang 1. Amp models are AMAZING, and for an 8" speaker, really nice and full, oh, and LOUD. The USB hookup to my mac and the FUSE software interface for the amp are just great. For the price there is nothing to compare it to. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Great Little Practice Amp

By Nate McVicker

from OH

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was completely torn between this, the Fender Mustang I, and the Vox Valvetronix 15VT. The Mustang, as you know is a solid-state amp, while the Vox has a hybrid partial-tube that I won't try to explain. Regardless, the folks at Guitar Center were really pushing me towards the Vox for its 'superior tone', and, granted, it is a great amplifier. However, with the Fender Mustang coming in cheaper than the Vox, I decided to be cheap (I'm a college student) and bought the Mustang I. I am so happy with my decision. While I am not an educated guitarist, I can play my share of bluesy licks or even metal breakdowns. This amplifier handles it all beautifully. Last night I had everything from the Alman Brothers to The Chariot pouring out of this little 8" speaker, of which I did not turn the volume past 3. Of all the modeling amps I have played, this one has sounded the best. My favorite model is the '65 Twin Reverb preset with beautiful cleans and -as you could guess- reverb. The amp has 8 permanent (can be changed but with difficulty) presets and 16 other slots which you can customize with your own amp models. Although a learning curve, making your own amp model can be done is seconds with customization of everything from chorus to reverse delay. Additionally, you can download the FUSE software online and have even more components to create your own amp presets. So, if you are worried about the size of this amp, DON'T BE. If you are actively playing in a band or are looking for an amp to gig with, you might need the 40 watt Mustang II; however, this little amp will have more than enough volume for you to do permanent damage to your eardrums while playing in your room. This is seriously the best $$ I have every spent, and this is also the first review I have ever written. I was just that impressed with this amplifier, that I wanted to try to alleviate any concerns that potential buyers might have such as sound quality or size. Buy this amplifier. You will not be disappointed

Full Of Surprises

By 52Tele54Strat59LP

from Corona, CA

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Well, I will have to admit this little tiny Mustang I is quite amazing. I've been a player for over 45 years and fortunate enough to own at least a dozen amps - most of which are authentic vintage tube amps (VOX, Fender, Marshall, Selmer). I was looking for something small to tote around to small jams but would have some guts and not sound like a shoebox or tin can. Although I am not a big fan of modeling amps, I do have a VOX AD60 VTX (which is an exception to my not so favorable opinion of modeling amps.) Nevertheless, I read many reviews on the Mustang series and decided to take a chance, since the price was low. At this low price, I had my doubts about sound, tone, build qualities. I purchased sight unseen - which I typically would never do, however, at the price I thought what the heck. Glad I did. Overall build quality is good. Much better than expected for this price range. It is the tone and sound that actually blew me away. I was actually shocked a bit. Out of the box, I just plugged the little Mustang I in and plugged in. To me, all of the presets were too gain hot. Not a problem. For each preset I tested, I would adjust the gain control and sound and tone became very good. The little 8" speaker does a great job - surprises kept coming. I had the amp adjustments figured out without looking at the book. The instructions are clear and easy. Back to the sound. I found that the Fender models are decent representations. Certainly not spot-on, but decent enough. British 60s and 80s were OK. Don't get me wrong here. Just because the models are not spot-on does by no means translate to bad. Most players may not even know the difference. For me, I have the real amps, and have been playing them for decades. Adjusting each amp model is easy, and can be dialed in for your tastes. With Fuse software, this amps presets can be fine-tuned very nicely. Also, this amp is plenty loud for what it is. Much louder and defined than expected. Fender did a great job on this little amp. The amp voicing is superb for a little box. I've played about a dozen guitars through it so far, and it continues to delight the ears. Acoustic electrics work great on the Twin Reverb model with gain down all the way. The 59 Bassman is very good too. Bottom-line: this is a great little amp. I would recommend the Fender Mustang I to anyone that is starting out, or any level of player that needs a small tote-along amp, for rehearsals, jamming, etc, or for those occasions when you don't want to grunt heavy gear around. Again - Great job Fender.

I wish I would have had this when I was starting out

By John

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted a little combo amp to keep in the living room that would give me a lot of different tones. Just got it last week and about 1/2 of the 24 factory tones (don't care about the metal ones at this stage in my life) work great and it even sounds good at low volume, a major plus for me. I've had so much fun with it I have't even hooked it up to the computer to try some different downloads. Its everything I expected it to be in this price range. The 40W Mustang II might be a better choice if you're playing in a garage band though.

I love this amp! I plugged the headphone jack into my patch bay,and I have the sweetest recording sound ever! No pro tools required,it's perfect right out of the box. The Fuze software is just what the doctor ordered, simple and direct,and........ NO WINDOWS or menus. It pictures your amp on screen, and you dial in from your amp or your mouse. Very Cool! I love this amp!

For 99 dollars, can I give it 6 stars?

By Matt

from Moline, Illinois

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just bought it, and have had trouble getting away from it, it's just addicting, so much to play with, and sounds so great! This is absolutely the best 99 bucks I've ever dropped on an amp. The clean and slightly dirty tones are spectacular. I'm not much into the metal stuff, but the hard rock tones are pretty good too. I'm playing a modified strat into this thing, and I think it's terrific. Check one out, you won't be disappointed.

GREAT AMP

By Brett

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a wonderful amp. I would suggest it for jazz, blues, metal, and pretty much every other type of guitar. Except acoustic. This amp has tons of simulatons and effects but there is no clean guitar effect. This does dissopoint me even though i play in a heavy metal band. Sometimes u just wanna chill with ur playin but this amp doesnt allow.

Balistic Fender

By Loren Farque

from Marcola, Oregon

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

The Fender Mustang is a great deal for 99 dollars. The three effects dials allow me to customize the sound how ever I want. One dial uses distortion and reverb effects to get a sound from a certain time period. So the '65 twin reverb setting sounds like the Beach Boys while the British '80s setting sounds like a hair metal guitar. The other two dials are like having two special effects pedals built into the amp with a flanger and phasers. The amp itself is a good size and looks awesome. It can get pretty loud too so watch the volume knob as you change the settings. There are only two things that keep me from giving this thing the last star; as far as I can tell there is no way to turn the preset dial off (which is only a bad thing if you don't want to play with crazy sounds), and when the metal 2000 and any special effect is on and I face the amp it picks up this feedback that is really high pitched and makes my head hurt. It sounds good but the decibel level makes me cringe. Besides that it is a great amp for messing around and experimenting.

What a great combo amp........

By Neddy Baez

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was looking the fender website and find out about this amp. The demo sound so good the I trade my Spider iv for this one. First, this amp have way to many options and settings the is insane, I love the digitals effects in special the tape delay is great, the factory settings are sweet plus you can manage your own settings. Second, USB capability is awesome plus the ableton software and the Fender amplitude( what a great deal). Third, this thing is loud, very loud and sound great at any volume you choose with the master volumen, and all the amp modeling sound just right and very close to the originals. After all ,this package(amp, softwares, great effects, online fuse app and the fender comunity) you can go wrong with this amp; it sound great , it look great and is very LOUD.....for this price is almost free...get one.........

Why is Guitar Center "giving" these away for $99?!?!

By Scott

from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I almost feel guilty for only paying 99 dollars. How Fender managed to design, engineer and produce an amp of this quality, at this price is nothing short of amazing. It's sexy, lightweight, LOUD and packed full of some really great tones-enough power for jams or a low volume rehearsal. Hell, throw a mic in front of it or run it direct at a gig. Most amazing is that you can crank this amp close to 10 and lose very little tone. I currently own a Mesa Mark IV, Marshall, and an Ampeg and have been playing for over 20 years. While it's not boutique, it's really, REALLY great for what it is. Fender deserves a huge thanks for throwing this one together. A great piece of gear that any guitarist can afford. Believe the hype on this amp.

Best small amp ever!!!!!!

By Craig

from Ocean City, NJ

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and continue to be blown away by it. This is far and away the best small amp ever made. The biggest thing I would suggest for someone checking out this amp is to not base your opinion off of 5 minutes playing with it in the store. You won't get a taste of what this amp is capable of until you read the directions and plug it into the computer with the Fuse software. In combination with the Fuse software the amount of tones and effects you can get out of this little amp are amazing.

Epic!

By Newstech

from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Zowie! I've only had this a couple days, but it's blown me away. I can't imagine anything to compete at the low end of the amp market. It's built like a rock, can put out a pretty good amount of sound (though I'm mainly using headphones), and the effects are wonderful. If you buy this, make sure you use the FUSE software to manage effects -- that's where half the fun is. It's like you bought a standard amp that came with a couple cartons of pedals and effects units. In fact, all the bundled software is top-notch. When I cranked up my Reaper DAW (on Windows 7 x64) and plugged in the USB cable, "Mustang Amplifier" was immediately recognized as a sound input by my generic ASIO4ALL driver software, so I haven't even installed the Fender-supplied driver yet. Then I loaded up the Amplitude LE effects software to modify the audio input, and had way more options than I knew what to do with. You can even use the AUX input to plug in all kinds of things, like MP3 players. Great for a party. Only problem I've had is a lot of hum with the guitar plugged in, but I probably have to blame that on the inexpensive Strat knockoff that a friend passed on to me. I've also been using it on an old ungrounded outlet, which might make a difference. Bottom line: If you're in the market for a low-end or practice amp, this is the best deal around.

Pretty nice...

By Ruel Smith

from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

For what it is, I was pretty impressed with this. I just got it last night from Guitar Center near me and compared it to a few other modeling amps from Vox and Line6 and bought this one because it basically just sounded better. The Vox had a tube, and sounded a little more creamy, but this got more snarly, and with it being solid state, it can take more abuse. Besides, I have a good all-tube amp if I really wanted to play a tube amp. I got it home, ran through some things, and was blown away by how good this amp is at this price point. Will it accurately model a '65 Twin Reverb? Are you serious? What it does, is give you a pretty good representations you can use to practice with, and play along with tracks - good enough to feel like you're sounding something like what you're trying to imitate. Could you use it mic'd up in a gig in a pinch? Sure. Would you buy it for that purpose? Umm...no... It's something to jam with at your house and maybe some small get together jams. I didn't like how I had the effects and reverb all turned off, yet some of the Fender models had reverb dialed in, anyway. I guess the software provided will let me turn that off, but it's kind of annoying, as I couldn't hear all the amps dry to check them out. Other than that, I highly recommend this amp. It sounds great and at this price point, you can't go wrong.

More Usable Tones than ANY amp in its class!

By Mike

from Marysville, WA

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp for my 9 year old son who is learning guitar. I wanted something that he could play and find a variety of sounds so that he could develop his own tastes. First off... I can't stop playing it! It's just too much fun. ALL of the tones are better than I expected. The sound is big and powerful with a lot of ways to edit and mess with your tone. The FUSE system is super easy to learn and gives you limitless options. When you compare this to a Line 6 or Vox or Peavy amp in a similar price range, Fender has more usable sounds. All of those amps are chock full of effects heavy presets that are good for one song, or one section of a song. They are all just gimmicky niche sounds. (Seriously, when do I need a dedicated preset for some kind of Flanger Dobro with reverb?) I want my presets to be the basic amp that I can add the effect to myself, and that's what the Mustang gives you. Although, on FUSE, you can find any crazy combination of effects you can dream of. The difference is that the Fender Mustang, emulates the best fender amps to give you perfect choices for any Blues, Funk, Classic Rock, Hard Rock or Country. Just playing my son's squier through it, sounded amazing. Way better than I expected. You could easily record with it too. I can't imagine a better amp for learning, practice and fun.
