Great

By dollyface

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

I've been playing this bass for about 2 years - in and out of the studio. It has a very solid construction and feels great. it feels much lighter than any bass i have ever played, which is a good thing in my book. the sound is incredible when used through a decent amp. the frets aren't too far apart, so if you want to walk along the neck with minimal effort, you should check this one out.

LITTLE MONSTER!!

By Funky Ol' Bass Lady

from California

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

I dearly love my Fender American Deluxe Jazz bass with a passion, but I have developed problems with my left thumb and first finger from arthritis. This makes playing a long-scale bass pretty painful and sometimes impossible. I always thought of the Mustang as an entry-level bass -- until I tried it out on a great rig! WOW!! Some reviewers say it doesn't have enough low end. WRONG!! It is passive, so all you have to do is either play it through a quality rig that has a jack for passive instruments which will boost the signal at the pre-amp section OR use a Boss Bass Equalizer pedal (which boosts the signal) and along with the tone controls on the bass and amp you can get any sound you are looking for -- with TONS of GUTS - and definition! I play it thru the EQ pedal hooked up to the new Markbass Little Mark Tube 500 and the Markbass 151P Traveler 15" cab. What a fabulous sounding combination!! My band mates absolutely LOVE my sound! Only thing is I have to be careful to turn down the gain on the MB when using the pedal in order to eliminate clipping. I am totally thrilled with my sound, and my Am Deluxe Jazz just sits in the case now. My left hand is happier than it has been in years! So is my shoulder! Should have gone to short scale years ago. The Mustang is NO baby axe! It is a REAL pro player -- as long as you play it through a quality rig! Sounds a lot like a Fender P bass. *Play it thru a cheapy and you get cheapy sound. Check it out!

A little more tone control?

By MichaelB

from Pilot Point, TX

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

I've only played this bass a few times, but have I have to say, thre is not a lot of customization of the tone. BUT! That does not mean it is a bad bass. It has great sound to it, and a really really nice body. It's very comfortable to play for long periods of time, and doesn't leave you sore afterwards. If you like a shorter scale, then this is the bass to go with! But if you like playing thrash metal, or anything like that, I wouldn't reccomend this bass. But anything that's not too heavy, this bass is perfect.

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

i love my new mustang! from its great tone, great feel, and the overall look, this is a great bass! the short scale neck makes it easy to reach notes better, and faster! i was going to by a fender j-bass, and i was 98% sure i was going to get the j-bass, until the guy helping me showed me the mustang. its a great buy!

perfect for me

By bobby blue

from los angeles, ca

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

i went from playing guitar and singing to playing bass and singing so the shorter scale really helped me get used to playing the bass. the tone may not be perfect for everyone, but that's no reason not to give it a try. i'm in love with it.

GET THIS BASS!

By jake-zilla!

from Indiana

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

the bass player in my band got this about 3 weeks ago and he has brought it in to practice about 4 times, and its great! i love playing it. i play a Jag so the bodies are similar. and its fun to tap on it like van halen. but the best thing is, is the neck! i love the size, it so much smaller so it was really like playing a guitar! bye this bass if your a guitar player and you want a good sounding bass! or just buy it if you want a awesome bass!

GREAT bass guitar

By James

from Chicago, Illinois

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

This is a really high-quality bass guitar. It has a nice tone, and better yet has a really, really comfortable and smooth-playing neck/fretboard. I liked the feel of it better than some Ibanez SR and even Precision and Jazz basses I've played. The strings that come with it are pretty acceptable. The only 0.0000001% minor issue I had with this bass was the fretbuzz up on the higher frets, but it's nothing to get all panicky about. This bass is basically a profession-level bass guitar. I love it, and I probably wouldn't trade it in for any other bass guitar that I know of. Great quality, good buy.

Great Bass for Smaller Hands

By R J

from Amarillo TX

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

The Mustang is what you're looking for if you have smaller hands and have trouble with the longer necks of other basses. I owned one of these basses about 30 years ago, and I regret all the time that I sold it. The only problem I ever had with it was a buzzing from a copper plate in the cavity under the pickup, which was very easy to fix. I replaced the factory pickup with a DiMarzio P-Bass pickup to give it more punch, so if you're less than pleased with the "out-of-the-box" tone, that's always an option. Great classic Fender styling.

Definately an excellent bass

By H. A.

from Pennsylvania

Comments about Fender Mustang Bass:

This bass is excellent; after looking for a small-scale bass, I came across this and decided to try it out in the store. The sound is excellent, it's got a very lightweight construction. The neck and frets are very smooth, which makes it pretty comfortable to play for long periods of time. The tone is rich even without an amp; it's definitely a bass worthy of purchasing, or at least testing out.
