Fun Guitar

By Bruce Anna

from Edmore MI

Comments about Fender Modern Player Mustang Electric Guitar:

I have a few "too many" guitars, but have always been fascinated with the Fender Mustang. I also did not have been wanting to try P90 PUs. So, I bought the Modern Player Honeyburst Mustang for a goof off guitar to just have some fun with.I did not have a lot of expectation and wow I was surprised. It is just a blast to play! The MP90 PUs are have a nice crisp tone through my Fender Hotrod and X2 amps. It looks great (just a touch heavy), and the overall quality is quite good. The only reason I give it 4 stars rather then 5, is it will need a little attention out of the box. I had my GC tech replace the saddles with Graph Tech saddles and he did a good setup. Also the tuning machines are not a great quality, replaced with good Klusens. With those minor tweeks, this Mustang is a blast !!

Surprisingly fun

By Bruce Anna

from Edmore, MI

Comments about Fender Modern Player Mustang Electric Guitar:

I bought the honeyburst model.I play in a church worship band, so I play quite abit. I have a couple of Tele's, a Strat and Gibson Les paul Studio, but have been wanting a Mustang. I bought the Modern player model to save a little money and planned to just play around and tinker with it. I did not have high expectations for it, but was completely surprised. The quality is very good! I did replace the saddles with Graph-tech saddles as suggested in another review, it helped, but not necessary. Also had guitar center tech set it up with 10's, that made it play very nice. As long as you don't dive on the tremolo, it stays in tune. Bottom line, it is really fun to jam on, I love the 24" scale. I still play my Tele most Sundays, but have played the Mustang a couple times with the band. It's a little more edgy than my other guitars. But, it's a blast to play!

Beauty and the Beast

By Kate Ramsey

from Corpus Christi, TX

Comments about Fender Modern Player Mustang Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Modern Player Mustang in Honeyburst. It is an aesthetic beauty, with a gloss finish that enhances the dimensional features of this choice color. The scale length and C-shaped profile on the neck fit my female form and function well. The vintage tuners (machine heads) and knobs, as well as, the dynamic vibrato tailpiece lend to a more vintage feel; and the P90 pickups offer tonal variation. However, a few modifications can help with any buzzing or intonation issues you may be experiencing. Apart from your typical setup and intonation adjustment when you first get your guitar, you may want to change out the saddles. I had some buzzing issues (not due to frets), even after adjusting saddle height, bridge height, and strings. Try the Graphtech saddles made for mustangs (sold on GC). Also, adjust the springs underneath the tailpiece by moving the springs to the second notch to create more tension. I also found the vintage machine heads to be of lesser quality (even for Fender), but Kluson makes a Vintage Locking (and non-locking) tuner that retrofits right on. (sold on GC). Sonically, this guitar is on point. The pickups offer so much dynamic range. When you engage the pickups out of phase, it sounds incredibly 'surfy', and when you activate both pickups it is so full of color. The neck pickup lends more warmth. 4 stars for pulchritude, -1 star for necessary modifications (although, I sort of prefer to mod)

This one was not good.

By daniel kuchar

from Troy Michigan

Comments about Fender Modern Player Mustang Electric Guitar:

I ordered this and GC had it sent from another (out of state) store. I played it in the store. 1) The frets had sharp edges along the neck 2) it was not set up 3) it wouldn't stay in tune for anything 4) it didn't come with the whammy and 5) one of the knobs was loose / wobbly. The in-house guitar tech adjusted the bridge and it was much better after that, but it still went out of tune very easily. You could tune it with the open strings, but then when you played higher on the neck it was out. I know that even guitars that are the same exact make and model can be quite different from another of the same make and model. There may be other units of this Mustang that are fine, but this one was not.

Nice piece of technology here

By Jordan Hodges

Comments about Fender Modern Player Mustang Electric Guitar:

Looks good, with no dings or dents anywhere. The semi-transparent paint on the Daphne Blue model looks great. The guitar sounds really nice too. The clean sound of both pickups working together is heaven.
