My new #1

By Robert

from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jazzmaster HH with Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar:

I've got 20-25 guitars, combination of 3 Teles, 2 Strats, 2 Les Pauls, Casino, Joe Pass Emperor, etc. I don't care what they cost, where they're made, etc. What I care about is how they play, how the sound, and how they record. And absolutely this guitar is now my #1. I can get great sounds that I just don't get with any other. Very versatile. And of course it looks great! I got the black one and the neck is really comfortable for me. Some people don't like the varnished necks but to me they're my favorite. Also, the neck is a somewhat fat C shape, so not for small handed people. The 9.5" radius is my favorite...balance between comfort and playability. The frets are perfectly dressed, intonation is perfect, all is good. And the fret markers and aged pick guard just make it that much more lovable. As for it being made in China, I don't care. It's really well made, great attention to detail, a really really well made guitar for an incredible price. I hate to say it but I tend to like my China and Korean made Fenders better than my American mades. I play it through a number of amps: '74 Twin Reverb, 78(?) Music Man 212HD (the one Clapton used), Vox C30, Hot Rod DeVille, and (I hope you're sitting down) Super Champ XD. I just plug into an MXR Compression pedal to knock off the volume spikes, then into the amp, and the guitar sounds great through all of them.

Good Value ‰ÛÓ Odd Quirks

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jazzmaster HH with Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Fender Jazzmaster Modern Player in black with the maple neck. I have a Tele, Strat and Pawnshop '51. This guitar has a very different sound with two humbuckers. I would describe it as throaty with not a lot of high end. It has taken me a while to dial in the tone. I like the simplicity of the controls compared to the traditional Jazzmaster. I like the look and feel of the Jazzmaster body. The pick guard is a cream "pearled" that I refer to as mother-of-toilet-seat. I ordered a black pick guard from Fender through Guitar Center. It has been nearly a month and it has not arrived. Due to the body shape and trem tailpiece, the string length on the high E is so long that there is little more than an inch for winding on the tuner. In addition, the tuners look like standard Fender slotted machine tuners. But these have slightly different specifications. The slot is very shallow, making it very hard to get the string to catch with out slipping and coming unwound. I will be replacing them. The neck has a great feel and the frets are well dressed. The set-up was decent out of the box. I did lower the bridge slightly, but the intonation was surprisingly good. This is an inexpensive guitar. It is made in China, but carries the Fender name. The Jazzmaster Modern Player is a good value for the money but will require a few modifications. I purchased this to be my backup guitar at gigs. For that purpose it fits the bill quite nicely.

An Awesome Guitar!

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jazzmaster HH with Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar:

What a great guitar for the buck! I got this guitar this December as a Christmas present, and I must say its pretty sweet. The duel humbucking pickups give it a great tone for what I use it for, and also make it a very versatile guitar. The three way selector switch when set to the far right is perfect for leads, in the middle position its good for rhythm/leads and when set to the far left gives you a good deep fat tone perfect for rhythms and finger plucking. overall this guitar is a great buy I love it, it not only plays great but looks flashy as well. I got the black version with the maple fretboard and it suits me great. it also feels great. Its a little on the heavier side to my surprise, compared to my strat and mustang, but I like it being a little heavier, it feels sturdy. I must say though, I was a little uneasy seeing the guitar was made in china, but after playing this guitar, and owning it for several months, it feels, looks, and sounds just as good an American made Fender, but half the price! Ive had no problems with this guitar so far, so don't let this make you not wanna purchase this guitar. Its an amazing buy! another pleasing product from Fender.
