surprise, surprise.

By JANET BAJAN

from albuquerque, nm

went to the albuquerque guitar center store determined to treat myself to a fancy american fender bass. was busy trying the $1200 models when i heard someone playing this modern player across the room. went over there and listened, then played it myself. fancy american fenders went back on the wall. and it wasn't a matter of money. it was hard. but i decided not to buy a bass based on snobbery. the chinese bass looked as good, felt as good and sounded better. bought the thing on the spot and took her home.

Awesome Bass

By Michael Warner

from Atlanta, GA

After playing for 5 years on various Squires (both P and J) I wanted something that had a greater diversity of tone. I visited my local guitar center and was taken by the double ?humbucker? pick-ups on the modern player. I played thru a GK 700 RB and a 4x10 which is the same set-up I normally use. I was blown away by the versatility of sounds this bass could produce! Sweet mids, tons of treble, but when I used only the neck pickup with the tone knob rolled almost completely off the amount of low end was greater than that of the MIM P-bass right next to it! I went back four weeks later and made that sweet sunburst tone-machine my own. I can get any sound I want, the pick-ups are very strong, the finish is fantastic and I could not be happer.

solid bass for the price

By mike Bianco

from MA

this bass does the job, but I have one problem, the neck pickup is really weak. I'm not sure if its just the one I have in particular, but when i roll both volume knobs up, its almost as if the bridge pickup overpowers the neck pickup. Ill turn off the bridge pickup completely and i can hardly get any volume out of the neck pickup, it really sucks because I got this bass for the versatility, but other than that, I have no complaints about the finish and build quality, its almost flawless in that aspect! Overall, I'm not sure whether its just a problem with the pickup, or its just a weak neck pickup in general, just to be sure, I'm getting it checked out, if there's nothing wrong with it, I'm swapping it out because it needs to have more power than that. The tone i can get out of it so far is pretty nice, i just thought i could get more out of this bass.

Great Bass Guitar Value

By Steven Kaufman

from Baltimore, MD

I just got mine in Olympic White. A real beauty and the fit and finish are terrific. The humbuckers do thicken the tone more so than standard jazz bass single coil pickups. It's sort of like a P-bass sound. Buy it. You'll keep it forever.

Very nice.

By Aj Eckley

from Amelia, Va.

I love this bass. I played it for the first time a few days ago and I love the feel. It's punchy when it comes to slap and pop and overall just sounds great. Can't wait to get my hands on this beauty!

Modern Player over Vintage Modified

By fernando soriano

from Redondo Beach, CA

I just picked this up today and I have not stopped playing it. Before purchasing, I tried the Squier Vintage Modified (VM) Jazz bass. I was undecided if I should go with the Squier or the new Fender Modern Player (MP) Jazz bass. The Squier VM has gotten really great reviews. When comparing them first off, the look of 2 humbuckers was just awesome instead of the 2 single coil jazz pups. The MP paint job was just slightly better than the Squier ( I compared the sunbursts). The neck was where it really MADE A DIFFERENCE! The Squier was great in its own way but had no gloss tinting. The gloss on the MP was fantastic! The finish did not feel tacky or sticky, very smooth moving up and down the neck. The Squier VM I demo-ed had really sharp frets on the side and the edge of the fretboard was also very sharp. In hindsight, before the MP came out, i thought the VM neck was super smooth. It is really super smooth on the MP. Now I only use the bass for recording and really for the 12 bar blues progression. So i used a Fender Rumble 15 with the EQ's and the volume all at 6:00. I set the VM and MP all at equal settings throughout the comparisons (front, back, both pups, tone up, tone down etc.). In my humble opinion, the MP tone just blows the Squire VM out of the water! If you are undecided about your first bass guitar, the MP has a great price point. Get one today! Thanks to my sales rep Luis at GC in Lawndale,CA. This is my second guitar I have bought with his professional help.

Fantastic Fender, Fantastic Price

By Tyler Morris

from South Jordan, Utah

I just picked this beauty up a week ago and I'm quite impressed. The double humbucker configuration makes for very unique tonal range possibilities. Great build quality! Easily on par with my other Fender basses. Love the birdseye maple neck!
